Marvel Snap’s Brand New Day Season Reunites Spidey’s Cast, Adds Free JJJ Card

Marvel Snap is spending July celebrating Spider-Man with a season built entirely around his supporting cast, and developer Second Dinner is giving every player a free card to go with it. The free-to-play card battler’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” season, timed to Sony and Marvel’s new Tom Holland film of the same name, is handing out a no-cost J. Jonah Jameson card to all players through a limited login event, while its premium Season Pass reworks Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Aunt May into a single cohesive set of characters.

According to Shacknews, which spoke with Second Dinner’s Senior Design Director Justin Swan and Game Designer Jason Yang, the season was built to unite Spider-Man’s civilian circle in one thematic package rather than lean on another flashy hero variant. Marvel Snap’s own season page confirms the season began June 30, and MobyGames’ record of the pass lists it running through August 3, 2026, lining up with the film’s July 31 theatrical debut confirmed on Marvel’s official movie page.

A Street-Level Spider-Man Season Pass Card

This month’s Season Pass card is a new take on Spider-Man himself, a 1-cost, 2-power card built around a “Moveable twice” ability that buffs other cards at the location it moves to. Speaking with Shacknews, the designers described using Mary Jane and Aunt May in lockstep with the new Spider-Man card, tying them to the move archetype so they’d feel cohesive across the season.

Jason Yang explained that Spider-Man is such a storied character with so much source material that the team wanted this version to reimagine what a street-level, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man could look like. He noted the game had already explored a symbiote-flavored Spider-Man and a Spider-Punk-inspired take, so this time the goal was to strip things back to a lower-cost, less bombastic character. Mary Jane is offered as the Super Premium tier’s headline card, while Aunt May rounds out the Premium pass as a supporting piece built for Move-based decks.

J. Jonah Jameson Joins the Roster for Free Until August 4

The season’s biggest giveaway is J. Jonah Jameson, who is not tied behind a paywall at all. Marvel Snap’s official account announced the studio built a card whose only purpose is to be rude, giving J. Jonah Jameson brand-new text emotes and making him claimable during a Spider-Man Birthday Login Event running July 21 through August 4.

Justin Swan told Shacknews the team was so pleased with how the Jameson card turned out that they decided against gating it behind the Season Pass at all. Swan said the card reflects how the studio wants to inject more flavor into the game, adding that it is “actually giving it away for free to every player in the game on July 21st,” so everyone can get the card. Players simply need to log in during the event window to claim the 1/3-star card and its accompanying daily rewards.

Second Dinner’s Ongoing Debate Over Deep-Cut Characters

The interview also touched on why Marvel Snap is leaning into civilian, non-costumed characters this month instead of another marquee hero or villain. Swan acknowledged it’s a difficult topic the studio debates constantly, weighing whether to reuse famous MCU-style characters that everyone recognises against digging into Marvel’s deeper comic lore, noting the team is genuinely split, with some designers pushing for fresh takes on well-known heroes like Wolverine or Iron Man.

Swan pointed to other staff who see obscure characters as a chance to showcase names players don’t already know, citing Jeff the Baby Dolphin as an earlier example of that approach paying off. Jameson, Mary Jane and Aunt May fit that same mould this time: familiar faces to comic and film fans, but rarely the stars of their own trading cards.

Timed to a July 31 Theatrical Release

The crossover lines up deliberately with Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s cinema run. Marvel’s official movie page confirms the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film, starring Tom Holland, swings into theatres on July 31, 2026. Marvel Snap is available on mobile and PC worldwide, including Australia and New Zealand, meaning local players can grab the free Jameson card and dip into the reworked Spidey cast alongside the film’s global rollout without any regional lockout.
