Kojima Productions x km5 Cp1: Death Stranding 2 Wireless CD Player Lands at ¥25,300

Hideo Kojima’s love of physical media has taken a new, wearable-tech shape. Japanese audio brand km5 has confirmed a limited-edition wireless CD player built in collaboration with Kojima Productions, reskinning its existing Cp1 model around the BB Pod from Death Stranding 2. The “Instant Disc Audio Cp1 DEATH STRANDING 2 Model” wireless CD player is an official collaboration with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, led by game creator Hideo Kojima.
It became available starting August 1, 2026, and is also being exhibited and sold at the ‘KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS × PARCO GAMES STRAND STORE’ currently being held at Shibuya PARCO. Tech outlet Tom’s Hardware, which got hands-on time with the unit, confirmed the release date and pricing independently, reporting the device came out on August 1, and can be purchased on km5’s online store or by walking into the Parco Games store in Shibuya Parco.
A BB Pod Reskin With Bluetooth 5.3
The base Cp1 is already a fixture in km5’s lineup, retailing for ¥18,700 in its standard white, black and clear finishes. For the Death Stranding collaboration, Tom’s Hardware reports the price sits at 25,300 Yen (roughly $160), and is available through both in-person and online stores.
Beyond the price bump, the collaboration model gets a genuine hardware upgrade. According to Tom’s Hardware, the limited-time device is a reskin of km5’s existing CP1 CD player, but upgrades the Bluetooth 5.0 on that model to Bluetooth 5.3. The standard Cp1, by contrast, ships with Bluetooth 5.0 and roughly 7-8 hours of playback per charge.
Visually, the unit leans hard into its Death Stranding roots. Tom’s Hardware describes a vibrant translucent orange design that proudly displays the spinning CD for whatever you’re playing, complete with an LED grid in the corner that km5 calls an “LED Nixie Tube” — it shows the track number and acts as a playback status indicator.
BB Pod Motif and Two Exclusive Postcards
km5’s own product listing spells out the design brief directly: the exterior packaging has been specially designed for this collaboration, with the previous simple design of km5 boldly incorporating the “BB pod” and mechanical motifs from the “DEATH STRANDING” series, transforming it into a limited-edition specification.
Buyers also get a physical keepsake tied to the sequel’s story. In addition to the main unit, it comes with limited-design postcards featuring distinctive scenes and motifs from “DEATH STRANDING 2,” and by setting them in the unit, you can further enjoy the game’s world. Tom’s Hardware similarly notes there’s a slot behind the front lid where you can also put a lyric sheet or one of the two exclusive Death Stranding 2 postcards that are included in the box.
The player is also built to double as wall decor when not spinning a disc, a signature trait of the Cp1 line. Per Tom’s Hardware, the back is opaque and features screw holes to mount or hang the player on a wall, so it acts as a standalone decorative piece even when there’s no music playing.
Why Kojima Is Betting on CDs Again
km5 frames the partnership as a meeting of philosophies rather than a simple merch tie-in. The company states the collaboration was born from km5’s resonance with Kojima’s approach of creating new game experiences through the symbolic use of music, a pursuit that aligns with km5’s dedication to the unique musical experience offered by CDs.
km5 also points to Kojima’s own listening habits as the spark for the deal, noting the partnership was made possible by Kojima’s self-proclaimed love for analog media. It’s a fitting fit for a director whose games are famously stitched through with needle-drop soundtrack moments and licensed music cues.
Specs, Limitations and Availability
The Death Stranding 2 Cp1 keeps most of the base model’s disc compatibility. Tom’s Hardware lists the unit as accepting 12cm and 8cm discs, weighing 300g itself, and measuring out to 160mmx140mmx26mm, so it’s not exactly pocketable.
km5’s own listing is upfront about what’s excluded from the box. The retailer confirms speakers are not built-in, a USB charger is not included, wall mount brackets or stands are not included, and it cannot connect to smartphones or PCs. The company also cautions that playback of all CDs is not guaranteed and Bluetooth pairing isn’t universally guaranteed either.
Stock is explicitly finite. km5 confirms the model is sold via km5 Official Website / KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS × PARCO GAMES STRAND STORE (Shibuya PARCO), noting it is a limited edition product and sales will end once stock runs out. There’s no indication yet of international shipping allowances or restocks, so import buyers outside Japan — including in New Zealand and Australia — should expect to factor in customs duties and shipping costs on top of the listed yen price if ordering direct from km5’s site.
