Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 3 May Keep Monthly DLC Pace, Says SNK

SNK wants to keep pumping out a new Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves DLC fighter every month once Season 3 begins, producer Shinya Tamaki has confirmed, even after admitting the pace nearly broke the development team during Season 2. The comments came in an EVO 2026 interview published by Shacknews, shortly after SNK closed out Season 2 with a shadow-drop of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star immediately following the tournament’s grand finals in Las Vegas.

Kenshiro’s Shadow-Drop Closes the Book on Season 2

Kenshiro went live in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on June 28, the moment the EVO 2026 Grand Finals wrapped, giving fans access to the Hokuto Shinken assassin at the exact instant the competitive crowd was still celebrating. The move closed out Season 2 of City of the Wolves, a six-character run that delivered one new fighter per month from January through June 2026 — a content cadence rare in modern fighting games, where full seasons typically span a year or longer.

The season’s finale also doubled as a celebration of the sport itself. Zeng “Xiao Hai” Zhuojun, already the most decorated player in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves competition, won his seventh EVO title overall after fighting back through the losers’ bracket, cementing his standing in a competitive field that drew 444 entrants at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Producer Shinya Tamaki on the Toll of a Monthly Grind

Speaking to Shacknews at EVO 2026, Tamaki said the team is determined to carry Season 2’s rhythm into Season 3, but only if the studio can sustain it. According to Producer Shinya Tamaki, SNK wants to keep the pace of one DLC character a month in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 3 if possible.

Tamaki didn’t pretend it had been simple. “Having one character a month was not something we could just do right away from the get-go,” Tamaki explained. “It took a little bit of time to ensure that our teams were fully optimized to receive such a heavy task. We had to optimize our dev team, art team, QA, sound, and everyone had to be working together for this to kick off.”

Building Kenshiro specifically added its own wrinkle, since the character’s source material has him ending fights near-instantly through delayed pressure-point damage. In a separate Shacknews interview, director Hayato Konya and Tamaki discussed reworking the character so he wouldn’t simply one-shot fan favourites like Terry and Rock in cutscenes, translating his channelling-point gimmick into the game’s REV System instead.

Rick Strowd and Laocorn Gaudeamus Tease Season 3’s Opening Act

SNK confirmed the Season 3 timeline on the EVO 2026 main stage itself. Just before the tournament’s hyped top 8 began, SNK’s Yasuyuki Oda took the stage to showcase Kenshiro and confirm he’d be playable hours later, right after the grand finals ended. Despite seasons usually running a full year or longer in fighting games, SNK announced that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves would begin its third season the very next month, continuing to push out content to players.

Two animated teaser clips have already pointed toward Season 3’s likely opening additions. An early-June teaser points toward Rick Strowd, a boxing character introduced in Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 in 1998, known as the “White Wolf of the Ring” with a dedicated following among longtime SNK fans. A more recent clip depicts Lord Laocorn Gaudeamus, the armor-wielding antagonist from Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, the 1994 OVA that completed the franchise’s original video arc.

Both teasers were produced in the same animated style used for the Krauser and Kenshiro reveals, giving fans a reliable visual shorthand for spotting the next Season 3 character before SNK makes it official.

A Multi-Year DLC Roadmap for a Franchise Back From a 26-Year Hiatus

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves marked the series’ return after more than two decades away, and SNK has treated its post-launch support as a flagship live-service test case ever since. Season Pass 2 currently retails for $19.99 and bundles six characters, including Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, Mr. Karate and Kenshiro, according to SNK’s own character listings.

Datamined files uncovered earlier this year hint that SNK’s ambitions stretch well beyond Season 3, though none of that has been officially confirmed. Whatever the eventual scope, Tamaki’s comments suggest Season 3 will at minimum try to replicate Season 2’s monthly rhythm rather than easing off it, a notable commitment for a genre where post-launch content typically trickles out over a full year or more.

For fighting game fans across Australia and New Zealand who stayed up to catch the EVO 2026 grand finals live from Las Vegas, the announcement means another late-night content drop to plan around once Season 3’s first character lands on PlayStation, Xbox and PC storefronts in the region.
