Black Flag Resynced: Where to Find Capuchin Monkey Pelts for Edward’s Pistol Pouch
Pirates hunting for one of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s trickier crafting materials only need to point their ship toward one island: Misteriosa. That’s where Capuchin Monkeys spawn, and their pelts are required to upgrade Edward Kenway’s pistol ammo capacity in Ubisoft’s remake of the 2013 pirate classic.

Misteriosa Is the Only Reliable Capuchin Monkey Spawn
According to Game8, the Capuchin Monkey Pelt can be found on particular islands or bought at the General Store in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Video Games Chronicle narrowed the hunting ground down further, reporting that Capuchin Monkeys can be found on the island of Misteriosa, a late-game destination in the Serranilla Sea.
DualShockers backed up the same location in its own hunting breakdown, noting that a great place to hunt the Capuchin Monkey is Misteriosa in the Serranilla region. The outlet added that there is one Capuchin Monkey located at Misteriosa, found on the southern area of the island, and it is not an easy animal to kill.
Because it’s a solitary spawn rather than a repeatable hotspot, players who need multiple pelts will likely need to fast-travel away from Misteriosa and back again to force the animal to respawn, a trick several guides describe for resetting hunting spots across the map.
Eagle Vision and a Headshot Are the Fastest Route to a Kill
Capuchins spend most of their time up in the canopy rather than on the ground, which is why GamesRadar+ advises players to use eagle vision to find and mark the animal nearby, since monkeys are usually up trees. DualShockers’ own attempt at the hunt followed a similar approach, suggesting players use Eagle Vision to highlight the monkey, then approach its location by climbing a nearby tree and aim for a headshot with a gun to defeat it quickly.
Once the animal is down, GamesRadar+ notes the process is the same as with any other creature: approach the animal and choose to “Skin” with the button shown to harvest the skin and bones. Killing method doesn’t affect the payout either, since it doesn’t matter how you kill an animal, they yield the same amount of rewards whether downed by assassination, bullet, sword or blowgun.
What the Pelt Actually Unlocks for Edward
The payoff for the hunt is a specific gear upgrade. Game8 confirms Capuchin Monkey Pelts are used to craft the level 2 Pistol Ammo Pouch upgrade for Edward’s gear, which increases the maximum ammo capacity of your pistols. The same pelt has a second use further into the game, since the Capuchin Monkey Pelt is also required to purchase the Peaceful Means Pistols from the Treasure Dealer in Great Inagua.
Pistol upgrades sit inside a wider crafting system that VGC describes as central to progression, pointing out that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced has over a dozen different animals that you need to hunt down in order to upgrade all of Edward Kenway’s various ammo pouches.
Skipping the Hunt: Buying Pelts With Bones at Great Inagua
Players who would rather avoid tracking down the elusive primate can simply buy the pelt outright. Game8 notes that Capuchin Monkey Pelts can also be bought from any General Store using Bones, with 1 Capuchin Monkey Pelt costing 4 Bones, though players must fully upgrade their General Store in Great Inagua to unlock it for purchase. Bones themselves come from routine hunting, since GamesRadar+ explains that the merchant’s store will allow you to buy any animal pelt and skin in exchange for bones, and bones can be obtained by killing any animal in the game, or bought for 5,000 Reales each from the Treasure Dealer once unlocked.
For anyone stacking up spare hides, GamesRadar+ adds a further incentive to keep hunting past the bare minimum, noting that you can also spend some of your pelts at the Treasure Dealer to earn special Black Flag Resynced Outfits. There’s also a shortcut for doubling returns on every kill: Game8 recommends players obtain and equip the Exotic Sea Shells trinket to get double the amount of animal products when skinning.
A Faithful Remake With a Kiwi Head Start
Black Flag Resynced launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 9, 2026, rebuilt from scratch on the Anvil engine that also powers Assassin’s Creed Shadows, according to Ubisoft’s own product page for the remake. For Australian and New Zealand players, the region’s early time zone offered an unusual perk at launch: because the console version uses a midnight local-time release while the PC version launches simultaneously worldwide, console players in earlier time zones such as New Zealand could begin playing before North America.
That head start meant local hunters were among the first anywhere to stalk Misteriosa’s jungles for the Capuchin Monkey, long before most of the Northern Hemisphere had even booted up the Jackdaw.
