A fresh recruit on the red planet.

You are Alec Mason who has bravely left Earth and joined your brother as a miner on the now colonized Mars.

But Mars is not the utopia it was meant to be. Ruled with an iron fist, the Earth Defense Force (EDF) have control of the planet, treating it’s workers and civilians almost like slaves.

As most live in fear, as the usual penalty for a misdemeanor is death, a small faction begins to rise up – the Red Faction.

Initially you don’t know what’s going on, but quickly realize that your brother was part of something much bigger.

As you see your brother die at the hands of the EDF you suddenly become embroiled in a rebellion you never sought to be in.

Red Faction: Guerrilla released on consoles back in 2009.

Now it has been ported over to Switch by the original developers; Voilition and pleasingly the gameplay still stands up today against current gen titles.

A third person SCIFI action game set in the year 2075 you run about the Red Planet looking for Missions, taking side gigs and collecting salvage along the way.

Salvage is basically scrap, knock down a building or smash an object and likely you will be able to reap precious scrap to later use as currency for upgrades.

Weaponry varies. From pistol-like guns to the more heavier and deadlier (and bigger) ones, you also have melee items, such as your sledgehammer which you start out with but is also very handy in close combat and then there’s throwables. Charges are a lot of fun – they are sticky and you can take out multiple enemies in one go with these, or bring down entire structures.

The entire expansive map is totally free roam and at a latter part of the game you can burn up the red dust in vehicles.

I have fond memories of playing Red Faction: Guerrilla on PS3 – so was excited to hear it was coming to Switch.

The game has ported exceedingly well and plays almost flawlessly.

There is an issue with the joy stick movements on this Switch version where precise movement can be a little janky. This can be hazardous when in a firefight and trying to aim at an enemy who is shooting the stuffing out of you.

For the most part in fire fights and where I was able to I resorted to hurling Charges as opposed to taking forever to get the aiming right – and taking hits until my lifeline was red.

Red Faction: Guerrilla ReMARStered includes all DLC and that real awesome Destruction Mode, where you have one minute to destroy as much as you can within an environment using Charges.

Actually, I played this mode a fair bit, as it was a quick bout of carnage-fuelled satisfaction.

If you did not pick up Red Faction: Guerrilla back in 2009 and own a Nintendo Switch then you need to give this ReMARStered one a go.
