Riot Games has officially revealed Veto, the 29th Agent coming to VALORANT, and he’s already making waves. Introduced during the VALORANT Champions Paris Grand Final, this new Sentinel from Senegal is set to completely disrupt how abilities are used in the game.

Veto is more than just another defensive agent. He’s a counter-utility powerhouse designed to destroy, suppress, and outlast the enemy’s ability usage, forcing players to rely on raw skill and aim rather than flashy line-ups or setups.

Who Is Veto?

Veto is described as a bold, adaptable Sentinel with a background tied to a mysterious DNA mutation, granting him abnormal resilience and power. Riot developer Nicolas Smith said that Veto’s kit is “for players who like to hold sites confidently and control engagements instead of constantly rotating or retaking.”

His design also emphasises responsibility and positioning. Thanks to his teleport ability, Crosscut, Veto can reposition quickly when things go wrong — a perfect fit for both cautious site anchors and aggressive playmakers.

In his ultimate form, Evolution, Veto takes on a dark, glowing blue appearance with radiant eyes, symbolising his transformation into a fully evolved version of himself. The result is a Sentinel who can withstand chaos and push through enemy ability spam with sheer force.

Veto’s Abilities Explained

Veto’s full kit focuses on ability denial and site lockdown:

• Crosscut (C) – Place a vortex on the ground and teleport back to it within range. It can be reclaimed during the buy phase and redeployed later.
• Interceptor (E) – Deploys a gadget that destroys enemy utility, including abilities that would normally bounce off players or be broken by gunfire.
• Chokehold (Q) – Throws a mutation fragment that traps enemies, applying Deafen and Decay effects. Enemies can destroy it before activation.
• Evolution (X) – Fully mutates, gaining regeneration, a combat stim, and complete immunity from debuffs and ability-based damage for the round.

Combined, these tools make Veto a specialist at neutralising opponents who rely heavily on utility, whether that’s a Raze grenade, Sage wall, or Fade trail.

Release Date and Battle Pass Rewards

Veto will officially arrive in VALORANT on October 7, alongside the new Skirmish mode. a fast-paced gunfight mode for players who prefer raw aim battles.

Players can also unlock exclusive cosmetics tied to Veto, including sprays like Don’t You Dare, player cards such as The Deep End, and a new sidearm skin Enforcer at the end of his tiered progression line.

Will Veto Change the Meta?

It’s still too early to say just how impactful Veto will be. While his anti-utility focus could prove powerful against certain team compositions, his deployables are destructible, which may limit his effectiveness.

Still, his Evolution ultimate, offering full immunity to utility and regeneration, could turn out to be a game-changer, especially in clutch moments or post-plant scenarios. As Smith noted, “Veto can play like a traditional Sentinel, but in the right hands, he can also be used aggressively to create opportunities.”

With his introduction, VALORANT now boasts 28 playable agents, and the conversation around introducing agent bans or rotations is once again heating up.

A New Era for Defenders

In a game where ability usage often dictates the pace of every round, Veto is Riot’s answer to the growing call for balance between raw mechanics and tactical execution. He might not instantly dominate the meta, but his presence will certainly make every player rethink how they use, or counter abilities.
