Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is big, bold and one epic Android tablet.

Built, designed to be a powerhouse of multitasking, entertainment, creativity and even gaming.

Last year I put my laptop aside and took on the challenge of using the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra as my daily driver for a time. Now I’m doing the same with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.

Everything from this feature that I am writing up on STG, through to image and video editing, spreadsheeting and more the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra can handle it all.

Given the specs of the tablet with its 14.6 inch AMOLED screen, 12GB RAM and a Snapdragon Gen 2 processor it’s got the grunt to handle whatever you throw at it, including console quality gaming.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, although given it’s mega size, is no different to taking a laptop out with you, except, it’s thinner and lighter. I do recommend having the keyboard case, as I do for this write up. It makes your digital tablet’ing life a lot easier.

The official keyboard case for the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is missing the trackpad though, so you’ll need to still use the tablets touchscreen, or the S Pen to open apps and navigate around.

I’m not too sure what the motive was for removing it and it’s something I’m hoping comes back with the next Galaxy tablet keyboard case.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra that I was loaned from Samsung has 256B storage. This is their entry level Tab S9 Ultra. The 256GB was more than enough – this said, you can add a microSD to expand that storage. I also tried this with a 1.5TB memory card.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is also Samsung’s first water resistant top shelf tablet. If you’re out and about and get caught in a downpour you’ll be fine.

Samsung generously include a S Pen with their Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.

If you’re a creative, or someone who needs to take a lot of notes, this is a must have. As with the tablet itself, the S Pen is also water resistant and it is so fluid to use – to the likes of  a real pen. Translating your handwriting in to text, which is mostly accurate.

Using the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra for video calls with family and friends is also perfect. I did take a few video calls during my time on the tablet as a laptop replacement, the dual 12MP front cameras are picture perfect, super clear. There is also a 13MP wide and 8MP ultra-wide set of lenses at the rear.

Using the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra as a laptop replacement was an almost seamless transition. The only break from the norm was the absence of the trackpad.

However, it is super fast, the ability to multi-window on the one screen and having that S Pen ended up being a much needed accessory.

If you’re looking to change out your laptop for something a bit lighter to move around with, but gives you the same core functionality, the Galaxy Tab S9 tends to be more reliable, a long battery life (up to 9 hours via its 11200 mAh battery) and full circle functionality with killer sounding built-in speakers.

A beast of a tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is more than a tablet, it is a full production suite that’s ready to go when you are.

This year’s Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra brings us a mix of what made the Galaxy S8 Ultra epic fused with the latest chipset.

First off, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is big. A bold 14.6 inches AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Coming in just under the size of a 15 inch laptop, providing you have a Bluetooth keyboard, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra could make an effective laptop replacement for on the go.

Running the latest version of Android 13 with Samsung’s own One UI OS overlayed, there is a fair amount of proprietary apps that do pinch some of the internal storage.

This year, Samsung have bolstered the entry level Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra to a 256GB internal SSD (last year entry level was at 128GB).

Coupled with this is 12GB RAM to see you right for super multi-tasking and game playing and an efficiently powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

I still love the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra but my only issue was that lower end storage, so I am pleased to see that this has now been doubled from the go.

There is a microSD card slot, so you can bolster that storage up if you need to .

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra comes with it’s own stylus, called the S Pen, in the box.

If you’re a writer, note taker or attend a lot of meetings – the S Pen is your primary tool. It’s fluid with digital ink to screen and feels natural when writing.

For gameplaying the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is gold.

Playing console quality titles to the likes of Asphalt 9, Call of Duty, Diablo Immortal and Pascale’s Wager with a control pad turn the massive tablet in to and a supreme on the go Android gaming device.

Samsung haven’t held out on the camera’s, again.

We get a similar array to last year’s, the dual front cameras come in at 12MP wide and 12MP ultra-wide.

Your dual rear camera’s are the generous for a tablet with a 13MP wide and 8MP ultra-wide. You can record natively in 4K / 30fps.

These match what we got in the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Battery life is fantastic, but charging time (from totally flat) is a killer (although you can fast charge and get a top up to keep you going for around 15 – 20 minutes).

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has a huge 1200 mAh power-cell. Around 3 hours to fully charge, but you’ll likely get a few days to a week (depending on usage) from a full battery.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the current top tablet out there on specs, flexibility and reliability that I have experienced. Light-weight, super thin and all screen.

It may be too big for some, but if you’re a creative, a note taker, prefers to work on the go or simply just want something larger than live to play Triple AAA Android games on, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the one.

As a privacy measure, the camera can be rotated down for added peace of mind when powered off and not in use.

Project Chronos offers a new level of freedom for those who frequent virtual spaces, or those who are looking to tech to engage with others. For example, people can more easily create content in virtual worlds or become a VTuber with a lifelike avatar without having to wear a mocap device or glasses. A fitness coach can remotely and virtually exercise alongside a client, showing them proper form and movement techniques. One can also transform themself into any type of virtual character and connect with new friends in the virtual world regardless of physical distance, time, and environment. The gaming experience can be even more immersive and interactive, thanks to clearly visible facial expressions and movements that can be interpreted in near-real time.

The formal product name will unveil with the launch of its full hardware and capabilities. Lenovo is working with developers, content, and service partners to expand on this thriving ecosystem and launch a solution that can provide the virtual freedom to exceed imagination.

Breaking the mould on what is considered a premium tablet, Lenovo introduced its biggest and most powerful tablet yet, the 14.5-inch Lenovo Tab Extreme.

For efficient, device-agnostic collaboration, users have the flexibility to use their tablet as a sketchpad for seamless collaboration with their laptop via the DP-in USB Type-C port or use it as a control panel with their monitor via the DP out USB Type-C port. Note-taking is a necessity for many but can be considered cumbersome to our modern lifestyles where traveling light is prioritised, where paper can pile up to be heavy, and environmental considerations are top of mind.

Nevertheless, there are professions and students that prefer natural and intuitive writing by hand over typing. To create a new, but familiar, experience for the prolific note-taker, Lenovo introduced Lenovo Smart Paper, its evolved entry into the digital notepad space.

Easy to hold and carry, the Lenovo Smart Paper is a slim 10.3-inch, anti-glare E-Ink touch display that is housed in a lightweight, all-metal casing that’s sure to free up some space in one’s backpack. Leveraging the wonders of E-Ink technology, this digital notepad gives users the pen-on-paper feel they’re accustomed to, along with smart features that optimise their productivity in unexpected ways.

With the Lenovo Smart Paper app, users can access their notes and books from anywhere, and cloud sync to back up their files which can be synced across different Android, iOS and Windows devices. With the app, users can also transcribe audio recordings and translate text into various languages.

The new Yoga Slim 6i (14”, 8), known as Lenovo Slim 7 (14”, 8) in the U.S., offers those seeking inspiration an exquisitely designed portable yet powerful device.

Thin, lightweight, and attractive, this laptop empowers users to work and create content with ease whether on the move or at home. Built on the Intel Evo platform, the Yoga Slim 6i is engineered to provide users with seamless communication experiences. The release dates for all of the above announced tech from Lenovo vary with the Yoga Book 9i (13”, 8) becoming available in July 2023, Yoga AIO 9i (32”, 8) available in October 2023 and the Lenovo Tab Extreme still to be confirmed.

Samsung has proudly announced the Galaxy Tab S4, a new Android tablet designed to help busy Kiwis accomplish more on the go.

Tech consumers are well versed in the knowledge that with every year that rolls around we are wowed and dazzled by a new lineup of smart hardware.

Mobile phones generally being at the forefront, it’s easy to overlook the booming tablet market. And just like the smart phone area, Samsung have the tablet market cornered aswell.

They have just released their Galaxy Tab S3, which is ultimately on par with a mid range PC in a tablet form.

Android tablets are everywhere, in a saturated market, it’s easy to come across a budgetly priced Android based one, but the more savvy of us are able to wade through the deluge and see the higher end ones that actually are more bang for your buck. The Galaxy Tab S3 is certainly one of those.

Samsung sent us at StG a review unit to spend a couple of weeks with and we were impressed.

At 9.7 inch the extremely light weight power horse combines the ease of functionality of Samsung’s latest smartphones with the brilliance of tablet computing.

Those that own either a S7 or the new S8 will be in familiar territory. The Galaxy Tab S3 includes the S Pen in the box (take note Apple!). The S Pen is a smart Pen or stylus that opens up further functionality on the device for free hand writing, intricate image editing and more.

The Tab S3 will recognise that the S Pen is being used and open up a sub menu automatically. And yes, very reminiscent to the Note series.

But… unlike the Note series – the S Pen is as much a part of the Tab S3, as it also isn’t. Completely separate to the unit there is no slot to insert or attach the S Pen to or in to the device. Whether by design or not, being that it is included (and a welcome inclusion, thank you Samsung) it would have been sensible to have allowed the stylus to become one with the S3 when it is not in use.

I can see alot of S Pens being let loose and lost in the wild…

Having 4GB RAM and an astounding processing clock at 2.15 GHz with an additional 1.6 GHz with its Snapdragon 820 Quad processor the Tab S3 is an excellent replacement for a laptop, especially when used with the keyboard cover (not supplied with the device).

The Full HD screen maximises your media, being able to display at 2048 x 1536 pixels with its Super AMOLED and for the gaming and multimedia aficionados (aswell as music buffs) one of the biggest and most notable inclusions in Samsungs newest tablet is four speakers are built in, booming out high quality audio with its UHQ (Ultra high Quality) Audio coupled with their SoundAlive enhancer and AKG filtering. Perfect for headphone based audio.

To my surprise and slight disappointment though, earplugs are not included with the device, which I kind of expected… that said, with the Tab S3 having a quad speaker system, its my assumption that Samsung want you to experience the audio loud and proud for all to hear.

The rear camera is 13 MP which for a tablet is close to the high end side and the front 5 MP. The Galaxy Tab S3 is also capable of HDR recording and includes most of the varying modes that are built in to the S7 and S8.

MicroSd expansion is still included and if you’re one to work or play on the go constantly, 3G / 4G equipped too. Internal storage is on the mid range at 32GB. Given the current trend and the fact that we humans are becoming digital content hoarders I did think that 32GB was very last year as mobile phones are now releasing with 64GB internal as standard.

And battery? Just superb! I was able to get a weeks worth of juice from one single charge, having used the S3 moderately, but at least once every day for around two hours. Charging generally takes a tad less than one hour for a full charge, but you can quick charge if you have to up and go – this will give you around half of the capacity of a full charge.

A little on the pricier side at around $1,199.00 NZD but one must remember this is a top shelf smart device and will see you right for a long time.

Still, from eReading through to game playing, movie watching, snapping pics and boring work related stuff, the Galaxy Tab S3 has all of it covered and really is a one stop, do everything unit, not too mention one of the highest spec’d tablets currently on the market. I am infact writing this very review on the Galaxy Tab S3!

A perfect accompaniment to the Samsung range and your digital life. Once you have one, you wonder how you ever did without previously.
