The school holidays are just around the corner and what better way to spend it than by taking the kids to watch the latest animation film, Storks.

Storks, a family friendly animated film by the Warner Animation Group, is made up of a stellar voice cast including Andy Samberg, Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell and many more. The film consists of key features which make for an excellent animated film including adventure, drama, friendships, family and most importantly, humour.

The film’s main storyline follows the storks of Cornerstore, who once were in the business of delivering babies to expecting parents. However, Cornerstore appointed a new CEO, who saw more profit in delivering packages than babies thus resulting in the baby delivering business to come to an end. Unfortunately, a mix up resulted in the very last baby requiring delivery to be stuck in Cornerstore, named Tulip and was raised by the storks. 18 years later, Junior, Cornerstore’s top delivery stork is promised a promotion if he’s able to fire Tulip and rid Cornerstore of her. Agreeing to do so and finding that he just didn’t have the heart, results in a catastrophe which leaves both Junior and Tulip no choice but to team up.

Storks has an interesting premise and the story is well written. Each character in the film is unique and is well developed throughout the duration of the film. Details and inside knowledge about the relationships each character has with one another, as well as a bit of back story helps viewers feel a sense of connection and understanding with each character. For example, Nate, an only child, desperately seeks his parents’ attention and resorts to requesting a baby brother in order to have someone to play with, while Tulip, secretly harbours her desire to find her real parents, despite trying to be an excellent Cornerstore employee.

While plot and character development is on point, so too is the humour. Despite being a bit more slapstick than other animated films, the humour in this film is refreshing and is one that will tickle the funny bones of both children and adult alike. The film’s visuals too are excellent, with a 3D animation style almost reminiscent to the likes of Pixar. The characters act and move smoothly and certain characters, such as the wolf pack, illustrate a flexibility that is unmatched. Just look out for the way in which they gain transport to chase after Tulip and Junior. I guarantee that you’ll either snicker or leave your mouth slightly agape with awe. That being said, there are moments that may see you experiencing what the Internet calls ‘the feels’. The baby in the film is especially cute and her interactions with other characters are precious.

The way in which the film ties together to deliver a heart-warming tale is well done. I found myself enjoying this film far more than other animated films I’ve seen this year. The film captures everything I love about a good animated film and ends with a touching life lesson that I’m sure people of all ages can appreciate.

Storks is by far one of the funniest and most entertaining animated films I’ve seen over the past six months. It is a film that captures the wonderful emotions of becoming a family as well as what it means to be a family. The film illustrates the importance of friendship, loyalty, and even the concept of dedication to one’s work, all messages that is apt and important for young children. A fantastic film that the whole family can enjoy, be sure to check it out these school holidays!
