<p>Western Digital have been doing hard drives since ages ago (51 years) and know their stuff, they also know what gamers require.</p>
<p>Less loading, more playing, no drive lag to initiate more fragging.</p>
<p>The digital storage producer has just released their <em>WD Black SN750 SE NVMe SSD Game Drive</em> for PC and mod-able laptops.</p>
<p>Coming in three size options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB it is not to be confused with their prior released, yet similarly named SN750 which we reviewed <a href="https://www.shanethegamer.com/tech/tech-reviews/wd_black-nvme-2tb-ssd-sn750-review/">here</a>.</p>
<p>Even I was confused at first, thinking that we had already covered this drive, but nope &#8211; this one is the &#8216;SE&#8217; version.</p>
<p>And lower spec than the the more standard named one. Western Digital really need to work on their product names.</p>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-52587" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD.jpg?x59030" alt="WD Black SN750 SE NVMe SSD" width="1680" height="600" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD.jpg 1680w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD-300x107.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD-1280x457.jpg 1280w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD-768x274.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/WD-Black-SN750-SE-NVMe-SSD-1536x549.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /></p>
<p>With that now cleared up the <em>SN750 SE</em> boasts read speed of up to 3600MBps. It&#8217;s a NVMe stick, so before you get yourself in to the fast lane, check the specs of your laptop or PC&#8217;s motherboard to make sure it can fit one of these.</p>
<p>Installed as a secondary drive in my test PC Windows 10 detected the drive straight away and formatted.</p>
<p>Installing a couple of titles from Steam and Microsoft store (Borderlands 3 and Forza 7) it was time to play.</p>
<p>And play I did. I remembered how quick the SN750 from 2019 was, there was little to no notable difference between the SE and the previous drive&#8217;s performance with gaming.</p>
<p>While the <em>WD Black SN750 SE</em> is built for gaming (hence it&#8217;s name) it wont just cater for gamers &#8211; it&#8217;s also a viable utility for content creators.</p>
<p>Transferring large 4K files from a regular SSD over to the <em>SE</em> saw write speeds go up to 3.1GBps.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-52588" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/wd-black-sn750-se-nvme-ssd-angled.png.thumb_.1280.1280.jpg?x59030" alt="WD Black SN750 SE NVMe SSD" width="1280" height="712" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/wd-black-sn750-se-nvme-ssd-angled.png.thumb_.1280.1280.jpg 1280w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/wd-black-sn750-se-nvme-ssd-angled.png.thumb_.1280.1280-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/wd-black-sn750-se-nvme-ssd-angled.png.thumb_.1280.1280-768x427.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>This surprised me alot as usually the trip up can be the lower speed drive your copying from &#8211; it was almost as though the <em>SN750 SE</em> was sucking the data from the PC&#8217;s main SSD before it even had time to write it over.</p>
<p>Rendering large videos and After Effects work to the <em>SN750 SE</em> didn&#8217;t even break a sweat.</p>
<p>As a main (Windows / Operating system) drive, in my case, installing a Windows image on to it, was an immediate load, from power on to Windows login screen.</p>
<p>You do have a tools dashboard that is an optional install from Western Digital. Here you can check the <em>SN750</em> <em>SE&#8217;s</em> health and tweak it&#8217;s settings to make sure you&#8217;re getting the optimal performance from it that you can.</p>
<p>Perhaps one of the best bits about the <em>SN750 SE</em> is pricing.</p>
<p>While the pricing tier differences between the 250GB, 512Gb and 1TB aren&#8217;t all that dissimilar, going for the top storage of 1TB (which is the one being reviewed here) comes in at well under $200 NZD.</p>
<p>Bargain!</p>
<p>I totally recommend the <em>SN750 SE</em> as a solid investment. Priced right, giving optimal performance any mid to high level gamer or serious content creator should kit themselves out with at least one of these.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"></p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">If you’re going to game big, you need a solid RIG.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">PC Gamers – the platform that started serious player to player bouts way back when console gamers were bedazzled by 8BIT graphics.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">And as time has evolved our gaming methods and the quality of what we play, there is a need for higher and higher specs.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Digital (and disc based) video games in our current generation are huge on their data footprint. Anywhere from 20GBs up to 50+. Install a few of those on to your PC’s hard drive and it’s not too long before your low on space.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">What PC gamers have over their console based counterparts is the ability to expand that space internally.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-40782" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd-hero-main.png.thumb_.1280.1280-copy.jpg?x59030" alt="WD_Black NVMe SSD SN750 2TB" width="1280" height="456" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd-hero-main.png.thumb_.1280.1280-copy.jpg 1280w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd-hero-main.png.thumb_.1280.1280-copy-300x107.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd-hero-main.png.thumb_.1280.1280-copy-768x274.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd-hero-main.png.thumb_.1280.1280-copy-1024x365.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Steam allows you to split your games library files over varying drives, if and when you get low on space. But it still requires core files to be within your OS (Operating System) directory and these can also be large.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Western Digital are the legends at producing digital storage solutions. And so they should be, they have been at it since April, 1970.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Understanding their customers, most definitely knowing the market and taking ownership of the technology, WD (Western Digital) are fully the masters of the drive space.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Recently the tech company has released their Black Series, a selection of external <a href="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wd_black-hdd-external-drive-review/">P10</a> <a href="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wd_black-hdd-external-drive-review/">2.5 hard drives</a> and internal SSDs – tailored for gaming.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">WD sent over one of their top tier 2TB <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> (SN750) drives, so we wasted no time in getting this installed in to a test PC.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-40781" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/1556709726_1451805.jpg?x59030" alt="WD_Black NVMe SSD SN750 2TB" width="2500" height="876" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/1556709726_1451805.jpg 2500w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/1556709726_1451805-300x105.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/1556709726_1451805-768x269.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/1556709726_1451805-1024x359.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Ultimately plug and play, the WD_Black NVMe SSD installs super easily via PCIe – and if used as a secondary drive, there’s little that you need to do once installed and PC is powered back on. Windows 10 will detect it, as it did in our case and boom you have that precious hoarding space.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">If you decide to use as your primary drive, then yes, there will be some potential fiddling about in your Bios to set the SSD as your primary and of course you will need to reinstate a back up of your old hard drive with the operating system on it, or do a complete reinstall.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Once you’re up and running the <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> is equipped with it’s very own light software. Here you have the WD_Black SSD Dashboard where you can hone settings to your liking, configuring Game Mode and  making sure you get the ultimate experience from your new digital storage investment.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The 2TB NVMe comes in two flavours, one with a heatsink and one without.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-40783" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/dashboard.jpg?x59030" alt="WD_Black NVMe SSD SN750 2TB" width="1644" height="944" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/dashboard.jpg 1644w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/dashboard-300x172.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/dashboard-768x441.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/dashboard-1024x588.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1644px) 100vw, 1644px" /></span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">As not all Gaming Rigs are built the same, I’d suggest that you check out your inner workings to select the right SSD.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">If you have a fierce cooling system in your PC, you might not need a heatsink – it also depends on your usage and gaming habits.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Pro player, eSports marathons, your PC is on 24 / 7, or you prefer to conserve energy and your power bill and shut down religiously. Whichever it is will also determine needing a heatsink or not.</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">So, how does the <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> perform?</span></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Like a Maserati. Clocking in transfer speeds of up to 8GB p/s. In our test we maxed out around between 4GB to 6GB p/s, limited by other hardware in our PC in order to get the maximum throughput &#8211; this said, it is undoubtedly the fastest drive we have experienced and ultimately the quickest transfer of large files and folders (10 &#8211; 40GBs) ever!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Using the <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> drive as the main OS and retaining all game drives and folders within not only saw windows load up in a heart beat, game loads and in-game loads were almost non existent. Having one of these bad boys in your PC (or laptop if capable) is a must.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-40784" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/StorageReview-WD-Black-SN750-Bottom.jpg?x59030" alt="WD_Black NVMe SSD SN750 2TB" width="850" height="533" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/StorageReview-WD-Black-SN750-Bottom.jpg 850w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/StorageReview-WD-Black-SN750-Bottom-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/StorageReview-WD-Black-SN750-Bottom-768x482.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/StorageReview-WD-Black-SN750-Bottom-400x250.jpg 400w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The <em>WD_Black NVMe</em> is designed for the serious PC Gamer, for sure, the pro eSports player, but remember it is also a drive.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">I would also fully recommend the <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> to multi media producing professionals.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Caching large design and video files can slow even a modest PC or iMac down to a crawl at times. Myself, producing content on STG can at times do exactly that. Once I swapped out my primary drive and installed the <em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> as the one and only working on large vectors and huge video files was no longer the grind it used to be.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Western Digital have created digital magic and crammed the expansive storage and optimisation smarts on to a small stick of hardware that needs to be in any serious gaming RIG or laptop.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Price wise, the 2TB version is getting up there, there are differing storage sizes with Western Digital catering to most needs and budgets.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><em>WD_Black NVMe SSD</em> allows to claim back your PC from the constraints of load and transfer times. Game more, wait less.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: right;"><em>*The team at STG do not recommend installing components in to your PC or Laptop yourself. We do recommend using a certified installation technician. Self installation, although fun, will void your manufacturer Warranty.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></p>
