From DLC to Full Game

What makes Silksong’s journey so wild is that it didn’t even start out as its own game. Originally, Team Cherry planned it as a Hollow Knight DLC focused on Hornet, one of the original game’s most mysterious and agile characters. But the scope quickly ballooned. The tiny Australian studio of just three developers decided to expand it into a fully fledged sequel, mirroring the rocky but passionate development history of the first Hollow Knight, which also began as a small game jam project before evolving into a Kickstarter hit.

That decision meant delays, long silences, and a community that slowly turned their anticipation into a strange cultural phenomenon filled with memes, conspiracy theories, and even “ritual sacrifices” (thankfully just online jokes).

What to Expect in Silksong
