The tournament began with Paper Rex (PRX) taking on China’s fourth seed Xi Lai Gaming (XLG). Despite a slow start on Bind, PRX’s trademark aggression soon came to life. Ilia “something” Petrov produced one of the plays of the day, clutching a stunning 1v2 with his Operator to swing momentum. From there, PRX took control, closing Bind 13-9 before dismantling XLG on Sunset 13-5.

Star performances came from f0rsakeN, who dropped 23 kills on Sunset with a 1.59 rating, and something, whose Bind heroics earned him a 1.63 rating. Between the two maps, he averaged an absurd 1.6 rating, comfortably outshining Xi Lai’s top fragger NoMan, who managed 35 kills but also gave up 34 deaths.

The win means Paper Rex move forward to the winners’ match, while Xi Lai drop to the elimination game against Sentinels. For PRX, it’s the perfect start to their Champions run, coming just months after winning Masters Toronto and claiming a third Pacific title.

GIANTX Take Down Sentinels in a Thriller

If Paper Rex’s opener was clinical, GIANTX’s debut was chaotic, bloody, and unforgettable. Facing North American giants Sentinels, few gave the EMEA side much of a chance, but the so-called Cinderella squad rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion.

Sentinels struck first on their pick of Corrode, suffocating GIANTX with double-Controller setups and closing out a commanding 13-6 win. It looked like business as usual, with zekken and johnqt finding plenty of impact.

But GIANTX roared back on Sunset. Despite Sentinels’ reputation on the map, Cloud and westside completely took over, combining for 24 kills in the first half as GX stormed to a 10-2 defensive lead. A few consolation rounds from Sentinels weren’t enough, as GIANTX wrapped up a dominant 13-4 win to level the series.

That set up Haven as the decider, and it delivered one of the most intense maps of the day. Sentinels raced to a 6-0 lead, threatening a repeat of their Corrode dominance. GIANTX’s timeout proved the turning point. Adjusting their aggression and timing, Cloud’s mid-round calling opened up the map, and ara became a force of nature in duels.

From 0-6 down, GIANTX clawed their way back into the game, eventually winning 13-9. Cloud finished with a match-high 51 kills alongside his IGL masterclass, while ara spearheaded the fragging effort with 22 kills and a ridiculous 10-2 first duel record on Haven.

Sentinels had their chances, even converting some rounds from man-disadvantage positions, but they let too many slip on defence. By the end, it was GIANTX who looked like the composed veterans, closing the series 2-1.

What’s Next

Paper Rex and GIANTX will now face off on September 17 in the Group A winners’ match, with the victor securing a playoff spot. Sentinels drop into the elimination bracket against Xi Lai Gaming, needing a win to stay alive in Paris.

The action continues tomorrow with Group C’s opening fixtures, featuring reigning champions EDward Gaming against NRG, and Team Liquid taking on DRX.

100 Thieves have strengthened their Marvel Rivals roster with the signing of Jacob ‘Nuk’ Allen, bringing in fresh talent just before Ignite Stage 2 kicks off.

Nuk joins the North American powerhouse as a Strategist, best known for his sharp play on characters like Luna Snow, Loki and Rocket Raccoon. His arrival marks a big step forward in his career, as 100 Thieves continue to position themselves as one of the top teams in the Marvel Rivals competitive scene.

From SHROUD-X to 100 Thieves

Before landing at 100 Thieves, Nuk competed under SHROUD-X, the organisation founded by Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek. With SHROUD-X, he featured in high-profile events such as Rival Fight Night. However, the team’s contract came to an end on August 16th, leaving its roster to pursue new opportunities. Since then, several former SHROUD-X players have signed with other major organisations, and Nuk’s move to 100 Thieves is arguably the biggest of them all.

100 Thieves’ Rise in Marvel Rivals

Over the past year, 100 Thieves have built a strong reputation in Marvel Rivals esports. They claimed victory at the 2025 North America Invitational, finished second at the Season 1 Championship, were runners-up in The Shroud Gauntlet, narrowly missed out on first place at Ignite Stage 1 Americas, and placed third at the Mid-Season Finals.

This consistent run of top finishes has made them one of the most respected teams in the scene, and the addition of Nuk could be the extra push they need heading into Ignite Stage 2.

North American esports organisation 100 Thieves has revealed a new collaboration with the hit anime Demon Slayer, sending fans into speculation mode after teasing “Enter the Infinity Compound” on social media.

The crossover was officially announced on X (formerly Twitter) with the date September 5, 2025, lining up neatly with the upcoming Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie, which premieres on September 12. The wording strongly hints at a tie-in event, and given that the teaser also shows off the 100 Thieves Compound in Los Angeles, there’s every chance that fans can expect something happening at their massive 15,000-square-foot venue.

Adding fuel to the hype, anime media distributors Aniplex are tagged in the announcement, confirming their involvement. This suggests the collab could go beyond just clothing and lean into event activations as well.

Merchandise leak hints at apparel drop

While the announcement itself didn’t reveal specific details, leaks have already given us an early look. Six days ago, streamer daeunttv posted photos thanking 100 Thieves Apparel for sending over the unreleased collection. The images show two Demon Slayer-themed shirts, confirming that merchandise is at least part of the partnership.

This follows a wider trend in esports and anime collaborations. Just last year, Team Liquid worked with Demon Slayer on a full apparel collection, while Cloud9 teamed up with One Piece, and Sentinels dropped a Haikyuu!! collab.

It’s not just esports either. Demon Slayer itself has been everywhere lately, with a Fortnite x Demon Slayer collaboration rumoured to arrive later this season. Between that and the upcoming Infinity Castle movie, it’s safe to say the franchise is having a huge cultural moment.

100 Thieves are no stranger to the anime world either. Back in 2023, they released a Dragon Ball Z-inspired collection, and in 2022 they partnered with Attack on Titan for another limited drop. It’s clear the organisation knows how much anime resonates with the esports community.

Anime and esports go hand-in-hand

These collaborations keep happening for a reason. Both esports and anime share huge overlapping fan bases. From Crunchyroll launching My Hero Academia merch with FURIA and TSM, to the Esports World Cup in Riyadh featuring anime-themed events, the connection between the two scenes just makes sense.

It’s not just esports either. Video games are also jumping on the anime train. PUBG Mobile recently ran an Attack on Titan event, and Overwatch 2 has rolled out anime-inspired skins from One Punch Man, Cowboy Bebop, My Hero Academia, and Gundam.
