The Grow a Garden stealing pet update is officially happening, and yes, it’s as dramatic as it sounds.

The developers behind Roblox hit farming sim Grow a Garden have confirmed that raccoons, kitsunes, red rose foxes and any other plant stealing pets will actually steal fruit instead of duplicating it. The announcement was posted directly by the official Grow a Garden account.

You know what? In this update the Racoon, Kitsune, Red Rose Fox, and ANY other Plant Stealing Pet will ACTUALLY STEAL instead of Duplicate. That’s it. 👀🥶

— Grow a Garden 🍅 (@GrowaGardenRblx) February 21, 2026

This change will take effect in the upcoming Valentine’s Part 2 update, meaning the days of harmless duplication farming are over.

What The Stealing Pet Change Actually Does

Previously, plant stealing pets triggered a mechanic that effectively duplicated fruit rather than permanently removing it. Many players built entire grinding strategies around this behaviour, especially in public servers where the risk felt minimal.

With the new Grow a Garden stealing pet update, that system is being replaced. When a raccoon, kitsune, red rose fox or similar pet activates its ability, it will now remove the fruit instead of creating a copy.

That shifts these pets from being economy boosters to genuine threats, especially for high value crops with multiple mutations.

The wording from the developers makes it clear this applies to “ANY other Plant Stealing Pet,” so if your companion has a stealing trait in its description, you should expect the new rules to apply.

How Raccoons, Kitsunes And Red Rose Foxes Work

Raccoons have long been one of the most recognisable stealing pets in Grow a Garden. They roam and trigger plant interactions that were previously seen as bonus generators due to duplication behaviour.

Kitsunes, often favoured for their sleek design and perceived efficiency, became part of many late game farming builds specifically because their stealing effect felt profitable rather than punishing.

The Red Rose Fox, introduced later, followed the same general pattern, combining aesthetic appeal with a plant stealing mechanic that players could exploit for gain.

Under the updated system, these pets still retain their stealing identity, but the outcome changes. Instead of acting like a duplication glitch in disguise, they will function closer to their literal description.

That also means public server interactions are about to feel very different.

Community Reaction Is Split

The announcement sparked immediate backlash and debate across social media.

Some players are openly furious. One user wrote, “Im done playing this game, you ruined it.” Another claimed, “The games dead allready you don’t need to make it worse.”

Concerns about public servers are common. One player warned that pet stealing in public servers could “ruin anyones garden good fruit,” arguing that grinders will lose hard earned harvests to players running kitsunes or raccoons.

Others are asking about counters. Questions like whether certain protective items, such as gear effects, can block stealing have started popping up. So far, no official counter system has been confirmed.

At the same time, not everyone hates it.

Some players see it as an economy fix. One comment praised it as a “VERY NICE IDEA” and suggested it could be part of stabilising the in game economy. Another said they understand the desire to remove duplication behaviour if it helps balance long term progression.

There’s also a portion of the community excited for Valentine’s Part 2 overall, especially those focused more on cosmetics and new content rather than farming optimisation.

Valentine’s Event And Part 2 Details

❤️ THIS WEEKEND – VALENTINES PART 2 ❤️

The first Valentine’s Event introduced Heather Plants with special mutations such as Heartstruck, Heartbound and Cute. Cupid’s Arrow Weather appears every 60 minutes, boosting Cute Fruits to 10x value and Heartbound Fruits to 50x Hearts during the event window.

Valentine’s Part 2 is set to bring new themed cosmetics, a brand new Heart Blossom Seed, quality of life changes and additional content. That means while farming risk is increasing, so are potential reward pathways tied to event mechanics.

Some players are already speculating that Heart Blossom could become a high value heart generator, especially during Cupid weather cycles.

Sheckles Conversion Change Already Live

Alongside event updates, the developers previously confirmed a major currency display adjustment.

Sheckles are now automatically converted into Flowers once a player exceeds 1QA. For example, 100QA Sheckles will now display as 100 Flowers. Importantly, players have not lost any currency, it is simply shown in a more readable format.

🤑 CHANGES TO SHECKLES!!!

Sheckles are now automatically converted into 🌸Flowers once you exceed 1 QA.
For example, 100QA Sheckles = 100 Flowers.

➡️ You haven’t lost any Sheckles, they’re simply displayed in a shortened, more readable format.

— Grow a Garden 🍅 (@GrowaGardenRblx) February 17, 2026

This change was framed as a visual and usability improvement rather than a balance shift, but it ties into the broader conversation about economy management in Grow a Garden.

Where This Leaves Public Servers

The biggest unknown right now is how public server dynamics will evolve once stealing becomes permanent.

If there is no counter system, public gardens could become high risk zones for players showing off mutated, high value fruit. On the other hand, this may encourage more private server farming or more strategic pet selection.

Whether this marks the start of a broader economy overhaul or simply a clean up of duplication behaviour remains to be seen. Valentine’s Part 2 will be the first real test of how the Grow a Garden stealing pet update reshapes the game’s balance.

It looks like Grow a Garden could be heading for a big shake-up.
In a recent Discord post, and a follow-up TikTok, Grow a Garden developer, Jandel, hinted that the popular Roblox farming game might be moving away from its weekly event cycle in favour of deeper, long-term gameplay features.

While nothing’s confirmed yet, Jandel says this is just an idea and could be scrapped if the community doesn’t like it, the potential change has already got players talking.

From Admin Abuse to the “Method Era”

On TikTok, Jandel explained that after “another successful night of admin abuse,” he’s been thinking about a new direction for the game.

He’s calling it the Method Era, a shift from focusing mainly on mid-weekly events to adding more complexity and mechanics to farms.

@jandelrblx

Some of the ideas he threw out include:

Machines that can mutate pets

Fertiliser that can make trees turn rainbow for 12–24 hours

More in-depth systems to give farms extra layers of strategy

“It’d be cool if people had a little bit more depth and mechanics,” he said in the clip, before encouraging fans to send in their suggestions.

Why Weekly Events Might Be Going

For months, Grow a Garden has had Saturday events packed with “admin abuse” moments, seasonal challenges, and time-limited rewards. At first, they were exciting. But over time, things started to feel… samey.

Jandel’s Announcement | Image via Official Grow a Garden Discord Server

“Weekly events were just a bit too hard to keep fresh and new… We were neglecting other content we could add to the game, like bug fixes and features,” Jandel said on Discord.

Instead of trying to create a brand-new event every week, the plan is to bring back the “golden days” of Grow a Garden, when features like pets, crafting, and cosmetics were rolling out regularly.

What’s Being Planned

Some of the potential additions include:

Egg Incubator – A placeable structure that speeds up egg hatching.

Fertiliser – Temporarily makes plants rainbow.

Garden Encyclopaedia – Tracks stats like heaviest fruit grown, rarest plant, and more.

Challenge Modes – Timed goals such as “Grow the best fruit in 24 hours.”

Permanent Cooking System – Cook meals for NPCs to unlock better shop rewards as they like you more.

There’s also talk of adding Easter eggs, meta mechanics, and hidden discoveries to keep things fresh between events.

Events Aren’t Gone Forever

Events will still happen, just not every week. The goal is to make them more rewarding and tie them into long-term progression, rather than being quick bursts of FOMO content.

This slower pace could also free up time for long-requested quality-of-life updates, like bug fixes, better inventory systems, and smoother pet management.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Part of the motivation might be the recent drop in player count. Stats suggest Grow a Garden lost around 400,000 players in a single week, falling from 1.8 million to 1.4 million concurrent players. That’s a sign that event burnout and a lack of fresh features could be pushing people away.

What the Community Thinks

Reactions from Reddit are mixed. Some players are thrilled:

“I TRULY hope this change happens. The weekly updates are making me feel burned out… events need to happen less frequently or last longer.”

Others are calling for specific improvements:

“Please just increase max pet inventory. I want to PLAY your game. If cooking is permanent, please allow foods to be displayed as cosmetic as well.”

“Lock the damn pet window so it doesn’t auto close. Increase cosmetic inventory size. Fix these things… and it will go a long way.”

A few want less RNG-heavy systems:

“The constant gambling is tiring. Gambling in eggs, gambling in rewards… No wonder people are cheating.”

And some aren’t convinced this will fix the root issues:

“Is he clueless? People were critical of the events because the RNG is BS.”

The Road Ahead

Whether this “New Era” becomes reality depends on how the community responds in the coming weeks. But if it works, it could lead to a healthier update cycle, with fewer but more meaningful events, better game balance, and the return of the features that made the game shine in the first place.

For now, it’s all up in the air. But one thing’s certain, Grow a Garden might be about to change in a big way.
