Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor Charlie Cox has thrown his support behind Robert Pattinson taking over the role of Gustave for the upcoming film adaptation, with one notable condition. Cox still wants to handle the voice work himself.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ ahead of the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, the Daredevil star said the resemblance between Gustave and Pattinson is too obvious to ignore, and that pairing the Batman actor’s face with his own voice would deliver something close to the character fans already know from the game.

Cox was asked whether he would be open to reprising the role of Gustave in any form, given the character’s arc in the game leaves certain follow-up scenarios complicated. His answer was an immediate yes, followed by a casting suggestion of his own.

“My involvement with this, as minuscule as it was originally and how it’s now expanded so much, has been nothing but an incredibly humbling and enjoyable experience. So, yeah, absolutely, yeah. I was thinking that they should probably, if they make the movie, they should get Robert Pattinson to play the part, and I should do the voice. Because then they would have pretty much the exact Gustave from the game.”

When it was suggested that voice work would conveniently spare him the trouble of learning to parry in real life, Cox dismissed the practical angle. “Yeah, but that’s not why,” he said. “I just think Gustave looks like Rob.”

The Pattinson Comparison Has Followed Gustave Since Launch

Cox is far from the first person to clock the resemblance. Since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched last year, players have repeatedly pointed out how closely Gustave’s design mirrors Pattinson, particularly his look from The Batman era. Whether Sandfall Interactive intentionally drew on Pattinson’s features during character design has never been confirmed, and the studio has not publicly addressed the comparison.

The game itself continues to rack up recognition. It won another Game of the Year accolade at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, held on Monday at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Cox has previously described his original involvement in the project as small in scope, only for it to grow significantly as the game took off and the studio’s plans expanded. He has also spoken about finally playing the game himself, admitting he is not particularly skilled at it, and confirmed he is attached to another, separate video game project that is still in early development.

For now, the idea of a Pattinson-fronted, Cox-voiced Gustave sits firmly in the realm of actor wishlist rather than studio plan. But with a film already moving forward and the comparison already baked into the fanbase, it is not the most far-fetched casting suggestion to come out of an awards season red carpet.
