In only two weeks, QuakeCon will return for 2022 as a streaming event, this year focused on the QuakeCon community and the games they love.

August 18 to 20, 2022, the QuakeCon faithful can tune in for meetups on Discord and global livestreams, including updates on existing and upcoming games, giveaways, tournaments, charity fundraising, developer interviews, huge sales on Bethesda games, and much more.

More details on giveaways and the QuakeCon Bethesda Sale will be released in the coming days via QuakeCon social channels.

QUAKECON LIVESTREAM

The fun will begin at 12:15 pm eastern on August 18, 2022 (2:15am AEST on August 19, 2022) with the QuakeCon preshow, with id Software’s Marty Stratton kicking off the main event at 1:00 pm eastern (3am AEST on August 19, 2022) with a brief Welcome Message.

Immediately following the Welcome, fans can tune in to a variety of streams from North America, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, and more countries around the world. Streams focused on games will include existing and upcoming titles, like Redfall, The Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Quake, and more. Expect special appearances from developers and other personalities. The Bethesda APAC team will also be hosting some local content for The Elder Scrolls Online and Ghostwire Tokyo.

In addition, the lineup includes fun community-focused shows like a Quiz-a-Thon Game Show, Cooking In-Game Recipes, Interactive Fundraising Shows, the legendary Dirty Keyboard Contest, PC Building Guides, and much more.

QUAKE CHAMPIONS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

QuakeCon wouldn’t be complete without a Quake tournament, and this year’s Quake Pro League will culminate with the 2022 Quake Pro League World Championship, Aug. 18 to 20, 2022, broadcast from the PGL studio in Bucharest, Romania. 13 Quake Pro League players along with 11 Qualifiers will face off in a double-elimination 24-person bracket for the World Championship belt.

QUAKECON CHARITIES

The team are excited to once again continue QuakeCon’s charitable legacy in both a global and local way. QuakeCon viewers will be able to donate to organisations directly from the official QuakeCon stream via the QuakeCon Tiltify Team. This year we are proud to support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), our long-time Dallas-area animal adoption partner, Dallas Pets Alive, as well as FOUR PAWS, a global animal welfare organisation.

A quarter of a decade ago a PC game like nothing else ever before released that set the foundation for SciFi first person shooters.

That game was Quake.

Where have all those years gone?!

I remember playing the original during computer class at school (instead of doing lessons of course). So if you’re like me and smashed the stuffing out of the original, you’ll be pleased to know it’s back, enhanced for 4K but retaining a smoothed pixel-fest gory… er glory. Well, both.

Built from the foundations of DOOM and originally published id Software and published by GT Interactive in 1996, id Software (now owned by Bethesda) are back at the helm of this new re-work to celebrate the 25 years milestone.

A SciFi blood fest, in Quake you are Ranger. A lone gunman sent into a portal to kill off the enemy only known as ‘Quake’.

Maze like environments with puzzle elements you would clear areas, finding pick ups and extra, more beefy weapons along the way.

Ultimately the goal for most was simply to survive each Level.

The original Quake was single player (no Broadband or Fibre back in those old timey days), but not so with the Enhanced version.

Now you can gun and run and clear Levels in up to 4 player online or split screen co-op.

Expansions to gameplay have also been added.

The two originals, ‘The Scourge of Armagon’ and ‘Dissolution of Eternity’, but the goods dont’t stop there.

Two new ones as well; ‘Dimension of the Past’ and ‘Dimension of the Machine’, making this version of Quake not only a rework that stays as true to the original as possible but also the ultimate Quake game.

For original players of Quake, this is a remaster you shouldn’t pass up. It’s not one of those ‘remasters’ where it’s had such a overhaul that it no longer reflects the original title. It’s still in its original 1996 format.

And if you’ve never played Quake, now’s a good time to start… and die, alot.

On Day 1 of QuakeCon at Home, Bethesda launched a new version of the original Quake and hosted a series of panels with Bethesda developers talking about what’s new and what’s upcoming for our latest games.

In celebration of 25 years since the release of the dark fantasy first-person shooter, an enhanced version of the original Quake is available today on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass for console and PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and backward compatible on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

As part of the celebration, Quake II and Quake III: Arena are also now available on Xbox Game Pass for PC in their original form.

The Original Quake, Enhanced will see you experience the authentic, updated, and visually enhanced version of the original Quake.

Featuring resolutions up to 4K and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, dynamic and color lightning, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and the original soundtrack and theme song by Trent Reznor.

Play in 4-player online or local split-screen co-op, or compete in pure, retro-style combat with support for 8-player (online) or 4-player (local split-screen) matches. Multiplayer features cross-play between all platforms and dedicated server support for online matchmaking.

Quake comes with both original expansion packs: “The Scourge of Armagon” and “Dissolution of Eternity,” as well as two expansions developed by the award-winning team at MachineGames: “Dimension of the Past,” and the all-new “Dimension of the Machine.”

Native Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions bringing 4K at 120 FPS will be available soon as a free upgrade.

Esports will make their E3 debut this year at the E3 ESPORTS ZONE, Powered by ESL. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and ESL, the world’s largest esports company, today announced a partnership to bring esports to the world’s premiere show for video games. The partnership is a result of the exploding growth and interest in esports and E3’s vision to showcase world-class esports activities.

“E3 is the biggest event in video games and esports has one of the fastest growing audiences in not just video games but all of entertainment,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications and industry affairs at ESA, the trade association that represents the US video game industry. “We are excited to partner with ESL and bring a dedicated esports stage to E3.”

The E3 ESPORTS ZONE Powered by ESL, which will be located at Booth 947 in the South Hall of Los Angeles Convention Center, will feature a full-size esports stage and spectator seating. Competitions will feature top teams and the popular esports titles including Vainglory (Super Evil Megacorp) and the new Quake Champions (Bethesda / id Software). The competitions will also be streamed live on Twitch and simulcast on E3’s live-stream portal HERE.

“With the growth of esports over the past four years, we’re now seeing more developers and publishers build games with a focus on competitive game play and esports tools. This creates a very exciting outlook for the future of esports to have more game titles engaging new players and new fans,” said Craig Levine, CEO, ESL North America. “E3 has a tremendous global audience and is the biggest video game industry event of the year. We are excited to partner with ESA to reach gaming enthusiasts and industry leaders by allowing them to experience high-quality, professionally produced esports live and in-person.”

The esports industry is expected to accelerate from roughly $200 million in revenue in 2015 to $1 billion in revenue by 2018, according to Baird Equity Research. And by 2020, esports viewership will exceed 10 percent of all US sports viewing and attract more viewers than the finals of other major US sports, including baseball, hockey, and basketball.
