Nintendo has announced another Nintendo Direct, and this one is all about Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Just days after its Super Mario movie showcase, the company is going back to games, inviting fans to sit down for a dedicated look at one of its most unusual upcoming Switch titles.

A Dedicated Nintendo Direct For Tomodachi Life

Nintendo confirmed it will host a standalone Nintendo Direct focused entirely on Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The presentation is set for Thursday, January 29, and will stream live on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

The broadcast will begin at 6am PST / 9am EST, which lines up to 3am NZDT on Friday, January 30 for New Zealand viewers. Nintendo says the Direct will run for around 20 minutes, with a tight focus on the game and nothing else.

What Is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?

Living the Dream was first revealed in March 2025 during a Nintendo Direct that highlighted games still coming to the original Switch. It serves as a sequel to Tomodachi Life, the cult favourite life simulation that launched on Nintendo 3DS back in 2014.

The concept remains delightfully strange. Players manage a small island where Mii characters live their own carefree lives, forming friendships, getting into awkward situations, and occasionally doing things that make no sense at all.

Nintendo’s official description paints the picture clearly. You create Mii characters based on friends, family, or yourself, choose their personalities and voices, then watch as they live, interact, and ask for help with their everyday problems. It’s less about control and more about observing the chaos unfold.

Why This Direct Matters

Despite being announced nearly a year ago, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has stayed fairly quiet since its reveal. This Direct is expected to be the first proper deep dive into gameplay, systems, and what actually sets this sequel apart from the original.
