This is X-Men, Wolverine, but not as you as you expect.

Gone is the Mansion, the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the mutant hero squads and the spandex.

Set in the near future within Marvel’s X-Men world we see an older, grislier and raw Wolverine or Logan (Hugh Jackman) as his age and skeletal infused adamantium begin to catch up with him.

Logan has long left behind the days of X-Men glory and scrapes a living together as a Limo Driver close to the border of Mexico.

In the past two decades the mutant numbers have dwindled as no more mutants were being born. Those that were mutant from birth or otherwise were hunted down.

Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) is not immune to the progression of events either, as his health is failing and his powers become uncontrollable with age.

However – there are still mutants out there, one in particular called Laura (Dafne Keen), a child with a surprising ability that is all too familiar to Logan.

Laura has been looked after by a nurse, after the nurse freed her from an experimental program where children with powers were being exploited, tested and enhanced. The nurse and Laura had been on the run for some time and had been tracking down Logan, who she believed is the only one who could help the pre-teen girl.

Logan has many a surprise in store for viewers, none of which I’ll hint at here. There is the cliche British villain (as there always is and correctly pointed out by Deadpool in the Deadpool Movie) and a military faction hot on the heels of Logan, Xavier and another mutant that they had been seeking refuge with; Caliban (Stephen Merchant).

Logan is no holds barred film, it takes stock in not being censored or following the familiar Marvel Super Hero formula. Logan is a complete stand alone and is a story of a man who protects a child at any cost.

For those gamers that have played The Last of Us, you will know what I mean here and you will also notice the similarities in storylines.

For me to say that Logan is a film you need to see – it’s an understatement. Logan is a film that you will watch and then want to see again, immediately after.

It’s everything that Super Hero films are not, and then its something else entirely different.
