A new era for Fnatic’s mid lane

Fnatic has officially completed its League of Legends roster for the 2026 season, announcing the signing of Greek mid laner Vladimiros ‘Vladi’ Kourtidis. The move marks the final piece of the organisation’s rebuild ahead of the inaugural LEC Versus competition, setting the stage for a fresh chapter in Fnatic’s long esports history.

A new era begins.

Welcome @Vladi1v9 as our Mid Laner for 2026! pic.twitter.com/B4WMARCzqV

— FNATIC (@FNATIC) December 17, 2025

The announcement was made on December 17, with Fnatic welcoming Vladi as its new starting mid laner for 2026. He becomes the fifth and final member of the lineup that will compete in LEC Versus, a brand new tournament format kicking off the European League of Legends calendar.

Vladi joins after strong year with Karmine Corp

Vladi arrives at Fnatic after spending the 2025 season with French esports organisation Karmine Corp. Over the past 12 months, he enjoyed one of the strongest periods of his career, winning the LEC 2025 Winter Split and finishing second at the 2025 First Stand Tournament.

His performances across the year helped cement his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising mid lane talents, making him a key target for Fnatic as the organisation reshaped its roster.

Reuniting with Empyros on the big stage

The signing also reunites Vladi with fellow Greek player Panagiotis ‘Empyros’ Tantis, who was unveiled as Fnatic’s top laner just days earlier on December 15. The duo previously played together under the Riddle Esports banner in 2022, and now come together again to represent one of Europe’s biggest League of Legends organisations.

Vladi becomes the second Greek player in Fnatic’s starting lineup, highlighting the organisation’s confidence in the region’s emerging talent.

Fnatic’s full LEC 2026 lineup revealed

With Vladi confirmed, Fnatic’s LEC roster for 2026 is now locked in. Alongside the new mid laner and Empyros in the top lane, the lineup also features Elias ‘Upset’ Lipp, Iván Martín ‘Razork’ Díaz, and Óscar ‘Oscarinin’ Muñoz Jiménez.

The roster blends experience with proven consistency, as Fnatic looks to bounce back from a mixed 2025 season. While the team finished all three LEC splits inside the top four, its year ended in disappointment after exiting the 2025 World Championship without a single match win.

Eyes on redemption in LEC Versus

Fnatic will begin its LEC Versus campaign against Los Ratones on January 17, aiming to start 2026 on the front foot. The stakes are high, with the winner of LEC Versus earning qualification for the 2026 First Stand Tournament, the first international League of Legends event of the year.

With Vladi carrying strong form from his time at Karmine Corp and the roster rebuild now complete, Fnatic will be hoping this new-look lineup can challenge at the top once again and deliver a deeper international run.

What is LEC Versus?

LEC Versus is a new 12 team invitational tournament that opens the 2026 LEC season. Alongside all ten partnered LEC teams, Riot Games has invited two EMEA Regional League teams, Los Ratones and Karmine Corp Blue, giving tier two squads a rare chance to test themselves against Europe’s best.

With its own identity, unique trophy, and a compact, high intensity structure, LEC Versus is designed to deliver constant action in the lead up to the season’s first international event, First Stand.

All teams competing at LEC Versus 2026

The tournament brings together a full mix of established giants and hungry challengers.

LEC Versus format explained

Single round robin stage

LEC Versus begins on January 17 with a single round robin of best of one matches, where every team plays each other once. This format allows fans to see every possible matchup, while keeping the schedule tight ahead of First Stand.

Each game day will feature six matches, the highest daily match count ever seen in the LEC. With new rosters across the league, teams will be under immediate pressure to adapt, opening the door for surprise upsets and early rivalries.

Playoffs and qualification

After four weeks of round robin play, the top eight teams advance to the playoffs.

The playoff stage uses a double elimination bracket:

Rounds 1 and 2 are best of threes

All remaining matches are best of fives

Only one team will emerge as champion and claim EMEA’s sole spot at First Stand, the first international tournament of the 2026 season, set to take place in São Paulo, Brazil.

Match times and venue

All matches will be played live at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, with every match day starting at 17:00 CET, whether it’s the group stage or playoffs.

The 2026 season of the EMEA Regional Leagues is nearly here, and Riot Games has officially outlined everything players and fans can expect from the year ahead. All 13 ERLs are returning with the familiar three split structure, but 2026 will also introduce meaningful policy updates and new opportunities designed to strengthen League of Legends development across the region.

The ERLs continue to play a crucial role in shaping future LEC talent. More than a dozen ERL players made the jump to Europe’s top league in 2025, including Karmine Corp star Caliste, whose breakout run to the First Stand Finals earned him the Rookie of the Year award. Riot says the pathway from regional leagues to Tier 1 competition has never been clearer.

With transformative adjustments now in place and a renewed focus on regional identity, the 2026 ERL season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and distinctive yet.

Riot has locked in the full calendar for the upcoming season, covering all three splits and each corresponding EMEA Masters event. Individual leagues may adjust slightly, but these dates form the backbone of the competitive year.

More information on the 2026 EMEA Masters will arrive early next year, but fans can already mark their calendars for another packed season of cross regional competition.

One of the Biggest Changes: The End of the LTR Mandate

The most significant update for 2026 is the full removal of the unified Locally Trained Representative mandate. In previous years, every ERL team had to field at least two local players. Riot loosened the rule in 2025, but the organisation is now stepping back entirely and allowing each tournament organiser to set roster guidelines based on its region’s needs.

Riot emphasises that this does not represent a shift away from regional development, but a move toward greater flexibility. With 13 leagues covering many different competitive environments, a one size fits all policy no longer fits.

Tournament organisers will now have more control to define how best to nurture local players, maintain regional identity, and build a sustainable competitive ecosystem. Riot says empowering local operators will strengthen communities, improve fan connection, and help leagues better align with local talent pipelines.

All 13 ERLs Returning, With One Under New Leadership

Every regional league will return for the 2026 season, but one will be undergoing a major change. Spain’s ERL will now be operated by LastLap in collaboration with Cabal Esports, following LVP’s departure last September. Riot says it is excited to see how the new organisers evolve one of EMEA’s most iconic regional leagues.

Fans should keep an eye on their local league channels for updates as the season approaches. The full list of returning ERLs includes:

Ligue Française de LoL

Prime League

Editor’s note: This article was updated on December 14, 2025, with an updated ERL 2026 map provided by Riot Games.

Spanish ERL social channels will be announced soon.

ERL Teams in LEC Versus for the First Time

In a historic first, two ERL teams will compete in a Tier 1 event at the start of 2026. Karmine Corp Blue, champions of EMEA Masters Summer 2025, and two time champions Los Ratones have both qualified for LEC Versus, a brand new invitational that will open next year’s competitive season.

The event uses a best of one round robin system, giving each ERL team at least 11 games against the entire LEC roster. It is a rare opportunity to test their skills against top tier opponents and form new rivalries with Europe’s best.

Both teams will miss part of their regional Winter Splits due to the invitational, but Riot is coordinating with tournament organisers to allow extra flexibility during their playoffs.

A Stronger, More Localised Future for the ERLs

Riot says its 2026 structure is designed to build on the success of 2025, while giving regional operators the control they need to tailor their leagues. The new policy direction encourages autonomy, regional identity, and sustainable growth across every ERL.

“Fostering our young prospects into superstars who push forward our competitive scene will always be the primary goal,” Riot said in its announcement.

With a packed schedule, policy freedom, and a growing talent pipeline, the ERL system is entering a new phase. The 2026 season looks set to bring even more opportunities for rising players, stronger community engagement, and some of the most exciting regional League of Legends competition yet.

Riot Games has officially confirmed the addition of a new tournament called LEC Versus, replacing the traditional Winter Split, alongside a unified structure for the Spring and Summer Splits.

The changes promise more action, consistent scheduling, and a greater connection between the LEC and EMEA Regional Leagues (ERLs).

A New Year Begins with LEC Versus

Starting in early 2026, the LEC will open its season with LEC Versus, a new invitational-style tournament that brings together all 10 LEC partner teams and two guest squads from the EMEA Regional Leagues.

Replacing the Winter Split, LEC Versus will feature a 12-team Single Round Robin with best-of-one matches. The top eight teams will advance to a double-elimination playoff, with early rounds played as best-of-threes and the later stages as best-of-fives.

At stake is not a spot in the LEC itself, but something even more prestigious — the winner will qualify for the international event First Stand, marking the first major cross-regional showdown of the year.

“Expect fan-favourite formats, high-impact competition, and new storylines filled with energy, passion, and moments that will have you glued to the edge of your seat,” Riot teased in its official announcement.

ERL Teams Step Into the Spotlight

One of the most exciting aspects of LEC Versus is the inclusion of two ERL teams, giving regional squads a rare chance to compete on the biggest stage in EMEA.

The first invitation goes to the 2025 EMEA Masters Summer Champion, while the second is awarded to a team recognised for its consistent, standout performance across the entire 2025 season. For the 2026 edition, Riot has already confirmed that Los Ratones, the back-to-back EMEA Masters champions and dominant force in the NLC, will take one of the two guest slots.

“These aren’t LEC spots, but special invitations earned through competitive excellence within the ERL ecosystem,” Riot explained. “It’s an opportunity for the best regional teams to prove themselves against EMEA’s elite.”

While these invited squads won’t share the same financial benefits as franchised teams, such as revenue sharing from sponsorships and media rights, Riot will provide a participation stipend to help cover expenses like travel, accommodation, and staff support.

To preserve roster integrity, each invited team must retain at least three of their original EMEA Masters players, though the LEC reserves the right to grant exceptions in special cases.

Spring and Summer Get a Unified Format

After experimenting with multiple formats in 2025, the LEC will standardise its Spring and Summer Splits in 2026. Both will now follow an identical competitive layout:

Single Round Robin featuring best-of-three series

Top six teams advance to best-of-five playoffs

This move ensures consistency for both players and fans, reducing confusion and allowing Riot to plan more LEC Roadtrips, live events hosted in different European cities throughout the year.

Riot confirmed that two teams from Spring will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), while three teams from Summer will advance to the World Championship (Worlds).

“Delivering a consistent format and predictable schedule for both the Spring and Summer Splits will enable more LEC Roadtrips and bring fans more competition,” Riot said.

The Return of LEC Roadtrips

LEC Roadtrips were a major highlight of 2025, with events hosted by organisations like Movistar KOI and Karmine Corp drawing huge crowds and online engagement. Riot has confirmed the initiative will return and expand in 2026, bringing even more cities and fans into the fold.

Further details, including locations and ticket sales, will be announced on LoLEsports.com and the official LEC social media channels later this year.

A Stronger, More Connected EMEA

The 2026 LEC season reflects Riot’s ongoing effort to strengthen ties between its professional and regional leagues while keeping the competition fresh and unpredictable.

By inviting ERL champions to face off against LEC giants like G2 Esports, Fnatic, and Karmine Corp, the new format gives fans a taste of grassroots talent going head-to-head with Europe’s best.

With LEC Versus setting the tone for the year and unified formats across Spring and Summer, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons yet in the history of European League of Legends.
