Helldivers 2 is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S on 26 August 2025. The co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, previously a PlayStation exclusive, is opening its enlistment doors to a brand-new wave of recruits ready to fight for Super Earth.

Game Director Mikael Eriksson summed it up best: “We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game.”

But beyond the hype, Xbox players still have some key questions about this launch. Let’s run through the big ones.

What time does Helldivers 2 release on Xbox?

The game officially goes live on Tuesday, 26 August at 1am PT / 4am ET / 9am BST / 10am CEST. So if you’re in New Zealand, expect to drop in around 9pm NZST on launch night.

Will Xbox players get crossplay with PS5 and PC?

Yes! From day one, Helldivers 2 supports full crossplay across Xbox, PS5, and PC. That means your squad can be a mix of players across all platforms. If you prefer to keep things Xbox-only, you’ll also have the option to disable crossplay.

What about cross-progression?

This is where the good news stops – at least for now. There’s no cross-progression in Helldivers 2, meaning your progress, gear, and unlocks will stay tied to the platform you play on.

Can you preload Helldivers 2 on Xbox?

Unfortunately, no. Unlike some big releases, Helldivers 2 won’t have a preload option on Xbox. You’ll need to wait until the official launch time to download the game. The install size is expected to be around 35GB, so make sure you’ve got some space cleared out.

Is Helldivers 2 on Xbox Game Pass?

No, at least not right now. Despite being the first PlayStation-published game to hit Xbox, Arrowhead has confirmed Helldivers 2 will not be coming to Game Pass at launch. If you want to enlist, you’ll need to buy it outright.

Editions and Pre-Orders

Pre-orders are already live for two versions:

• Standard Edition – includes the full game.
• Super Citizen Edition – adds exclusive armour sets, a weapon, cape, premium token, and more for players who want to go all in.
