A New Kind of Worlds Spectacle

Riot Games has announced that Anyma, the visionary electronic artist and solo project of Matteo Milleri, will take the stage as both Co-Creative Director and performer for the League of Legends Worlds 2025 Opening Ceremony. The highly anticipated show will stream live on Sunday, November 9, right before the Grand Finals kick off in Chengdu, China.

Fans can tune in to the official LoL Esports channels on YouTube and Twitch to catch the full performance, which promises to blend futuristic visuals, immersive art, and live music in a way only Riot’s creative team can pull off.

Techno Meets Esports

Anyma is no stranger to pushing artistic boundaries. Known for fusing high-energy techno music with digital art and surreal live visuals, the artist has built a reputation for creating performances that blur the line between reality and the virtual world. This makes him a natural fit for League of Legends, a game that thrives on spectacle, story, and atmosphere.

Joining Anyma on stage is acclaimed Hong Kong singer-songwriter G.E.M., who will perform “Sacrifice” — the official anthem for Worlds 2025. The song marks a major milestone for Riot Games, celebrating the 15th anniversary of League of Legends esports.

Carrying On a Legendary Tradition

Each year, the Worlds Opening Ceremony raises the bar for live production in gaming. From Imagine Dragons’ “Warriors” (2014) to Rise (2018) and Lil Nas X’s “Star Walkin’” (2022), these anthems have become cultural moments that unite fans across the globe.

With Anyma’s innovative visuals and G.E.M.’s soaring vocals, this year’s performance is expected to deliver a futuristic blend of sound and storytelling, one that reflects both the evolution of League of Legends and its global community.

Worlds 2025: The Road to the Grand Finals

The League of Legends World Championship 2025, or simply Worlds 2025, is the crown jewel of the competitive LoL season. Seventeen of the best teams from around the world have been battling since mid-October for a share of the $1 million prize pool.

Now, only a handful remain in contention. Gen.G Esports and KT Rolster are set to face off for a spot in the Grand Finals, while Anyone’s Legend will clash with defending champions T1 for a chance to meet Top Esports in the semi-finals.

With the stakes higher than ever, the November 9 Opening Ceremony will serve as both a celebration and a prelude to the ultimate showdown.

How to Watch

Fans worldwide can watch the League of Legends Worlds 2025 Opening Ceremony live via LoLEsports.com, or through the official League of Legends Esports channels on YouTube and Twitch.

Whether you’re tuning in for the esports action or the music spectacle, this year’s Worlds promises to be one for the history books.

The 2025 League of Legends World Championship has officially found its voice, and it’s one that echoes across the stars. Riot Games has released this year’s Worlds anthem, “Sacrifice,” performed by Hong Kong pop sensation G.E.M., just ahead of the tournament’s kickoff.

Marking the 15th anniversary of LoL Esports, “Sacrifice” celebrates the dedication, legacy, and passion that define both the game and its global community. The cinematic music video, which premiered on Monday, takes fans on a breathtaking journey through space, blending stunning visuals with a heartfelt story about what it means to give everything for the love of competition.

A Cosmic Tribute to Legends

Set among constellations and cosmic dust, “Sacrifice” reimagines some of the most iconic moments in League of Legends history. From Faker’s legendary Azir shuffle and TheShy’s devastating Aatrox plays to Caps’ unforgettable “illegal” Ashe arrow steal, the video immortalises the plays that shaped a decade of esports greatness.

Beyond the players, the video also shines a light on fans, coaches, and broadcast talent who’ve carried the scene for 15 years. One of the most emotional moments comes as Maciej “Shushei” Ratuszniak, the late Fnatic player who won the first-ever Worlds in 2011, is shown lifting the Summoner’s Cup one last time, a poignant tribute to his legacy and the history he helped create.

The song itself brings back the emotional depth of past anthems like “Legends Never Die” and “Phoenix.” G.E.M.’s soaring vocals intertwine with orchestral elements to deliver a sound that’s both epic and deeply personal. Riot’s Global Head of Music, Maria Edgan, said G.E.M. was chosen deliberately as Worlds returns to China, describing her as “a superstar who deserved the biggest stage possible.”

As the 2025 League of Legends World Championship begins, “Sacrifice” stands as both a love letter and a rallying cry, a reminder that every great story in esports starts with passion, perseverance, and yes, a little bit of sacrifice.

Riot Games has delayed the release of the League of Legends Worlds 2025 anthem following a last-minute decision to remove FlyQuest player Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau from the official music video. The highly anticipated song, originally set to debut on October 10, will now release on Monday, October 13.

According to Riot, the delay was necessary to make “last-minute edits” after the removal of Bwipo, who was originally featured to represent the Americas region. His exclusion reportedly caused portions of the video to be reworked, resulting in the entire region being left out of this year’s anthem.

The Worlds Music Video will now launch on October 13, a few days later than originally planned. Bwipo was featured in the original cut, but given his recent comments, we decided it wouldn’t be right to showcase him in a piece that represents LoL Esports, pro players, and fans.…

— LoL Esports (@lolesports) October 8, 2025

“This was not part of any sanction or competitive ruling, but a decision about how we represent our sport and community on a global stage,” Riot said in its statement.

Why Riot Cut Bwipo from the Video

The move follows Bwipo’s recent suspension by FlyQuest after making sexist remarks on stream. During a livestream, the Belgian player commented that there are certain times “in the month where you should not be playing competitive games as a woman,” a statement that quickly drew widespread criticism across the League of Legends community.

“When a woman is on the wrong part of the month… there’s a time of the month where you should not be f*cking playing competitive games as a woman”

League of Legends pro Bwipo is facing backlash saying it’s harder for women to compete while on their cycle… pic.twitter.com/G9ECvCcHJP

— Jake Lucky (@JakeSucky) September 9, 2025

While Bwipo later apologised and clarified that his words were not meant to be sexist, the backlash was swift. Riot’s decision to cut him from the Worlds anthem wasn’t a disciplinary action, but rather a conscious choice to align the company’s public image with its stated values of respect and inclusivity.

For Riot, which has spent years turning the Worlds anthem into an annual global celebration, including the player in this year’s video “wouldn’t be right” given the controversy.

Community Split Over Riot’s Decision

The reaction online has been divided. Many fans supported Riot’s stance, arguing that the company should uphold the principles it promotes within esports. Others, however, criticised the move as hypocritical, pointing out that Riot continues to maintain commercial ties with the Saudi-backed Esports World Cup, an event funded by the country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has faced ongoing criticism for its human rights record.

Twitter user Glaivz summed up the sentiment for many detractors.

“but a decision about how we represent our sport and community on a global stage.”

You made that quite clear with taking money from the Saudi Government. I guess it’s easier to punish one guy that apologized than not taking blood money from a country where women have no rights

— Glaivz (@Glaivz) October 8, 2025

Meanwhile, others joked about the situation, with one user quipping that Bwipo “cancelled whole NA,” referencing how the Americas’ representation was entirely cut from the video.

The Anthem Tradition Continues

Despite the controversy, the Worlds 2025 anthem remains one of the most anticipated parts of the annual League of Legends calendar. Since 2014’s Warriors by Imagine Dragons, each Worlds anthem has served as a rallying cry for players and fans alike, from Legends Never Die to Rise and GODS.

This year’s song marks the twelfth instalment in the series and will be performed by Gloria Tang Sze-wing, better known as G.E.M., one of the biggest stars in Chinese pop music and a major figure across the Greater China region.

Though the delay has disappointed some fans, anticipation remains high for the video’s debut on October 13, which will celebrate the 15th anniversary of Worlds. Beyond the music, however, the incident has once again highlighted how Riot Games continues to navigate the tricky balance between community values, player behaviour, and global partnerships in the ever-growing esports scene.
