<p>Hyperkin have released a whole swag of retro peripherals and even consoles over the years.</p>
<p>From multi-cartridge based home systems such as the <a href="https://www.shanethegamer.com/hyperkin-retron-5-review/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Retron 5</a> through to accessories for smartphones to turn your device in to a Gameboy.</p>
<p>Their latest offering is the reinmagined original Xbox controller, called the <em>Duke</em>.</p>
<p>Named after the nickname that the chunky controller was given by gamers when the Xbox Clasic released way back in Novembr 2001.</p>
<p>The <em>Duke</em> was almost like holding a fat dinner plate with buttons all over it, more buttons than you ever needed.</p>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-30432" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr.jpg?x59030" alt="" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr.jpg 1200w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-360x240.jpg 360w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-600x400.jpg 600w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/144382-games-news-hyperkin-duke-controller-is-the-xbox-one-accessory-everyone-should-own-image1-iqjl84b2sr-750x500.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Despite its size and weight the <em>Duke</em> became a memorable favourite with Xbox Classic owners. Hyperkin realised this and after a couple of years in the planning, they have re-invented the <em>Duke</em> for Xbox One.</p>
<p>Play Distribution sent over a test model for us to try out.</p>
<p>First thing you notice is it&#8217;s size. I found myself reminiscing instantly &#8211; but at the same time thinking, was the original Xbox Classic controller really this big?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s huge, for a controller.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-30433" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_.jpg?x59030" alt="" width="1000" height="1000" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_.jpg 1000w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_-125x125.jpg 125w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/hyperkin_duke_throwback_xbox_one_controller_3_-750x750.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>The <em>Hyperkin Duke</em> has moved some of the buttons around from the original but the main ones, A, B, X and Y remain in the same place.</p>
<p>Modernised, of course, for the Xbox One, the center &#8216;Home&#8217; button is a screen.</p>
<p>When the Home screen button is pushed in, it takes you to your Xbox One Dashboard on your console. But the coolest part is the screen displays the original Xbox load up screen when you first power it on, or when you access your Dashboard.</p>
<p>Th <em>Hyperkin</em> <em>Duke</em> is not a wireless controller, but does come with a USB 2.0 to micro USB cable of a pleasing length that should accommodate most living rooms or games den.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-30434" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1.jpg?x59030" alt="" width="1600" height="928" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1.jpg 1600w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1-300x174.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1-768x445.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1-1024x594.jpg 1024w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1-750x435.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>Being a native Xbox One controller there are no issues at all with using it in replace of your standard one.</p>
<p>I was curious as to whether Windows 10 would recognise the <em>Hyperkin</em> <em>Duke</em> as a wired controller. So on my <a href="https://www.shanethegamer.com/asus-zenbook-3-review/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Asus Zenbook 3</a> I plugged it to see what would happen.</p>
<p>Sure enough Windows informed me I had plugged in a gaming controller. Thank you Windows. It actually went further than that and listed it as an Xbox One controller. So there you go.</p>
<p>The <em>Hyperkin</em> <em>Duke</em> &#8211; mega sized and mega fun to have and a blast from the past made new for the current Xbox.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">In October of 2016, Seamus Blackley tweeted to his followers, asking if they would like to see a return of the original Xbox Controller (known by many as the &#8220;Duke&#8221;).</p>
<p>They did. They REALLY did. Two years later, the <em>Hyperkin Duke</em> stands to prove that big controllers are back and ready for veteran fans and newcomers alike. The big guy&#8217;s back, everyone.</p>
<p>Hyperkin has announced that the <em>Hyperkin Duke</em> will officially be released on April 30th, 2018 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Officially licensed by Xbox, in collaboration with Blackley &#8211; an integral part of the original Xbox team &#8211; the Hyperkin Duke is the first ever third-party controller to bear both an original Xbox design and logo. Blackley, along with Hyperkin&#8217;s Research &amp; Development team, worked together to replicate the look and feel of the original Duke.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-30179" src="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0.jpg?x59030" alt="" width="1600" height="928" srcset="https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0.jpg 1600w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-300x174.jpg 300w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-768x445.jpg 768w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-1024x594.jpg 1024w, https://www.shanethegamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Duke_Rendering_FrontAngled_0-750x435.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>“It’s a bizarre experience, to see a joke on Twitter become a real product,” Blackley said. &#8220;Seeing all these gamers so truly happy to get the new Hyperkin Duke is pretty goddamn superb.”</p>
<p>What sets this apart from any other &#8220;retro&#8221; controller? When a player wants a nostalgia kick, all they need to do is press the Xbox button and the original Xbox animated startup screen will play right inside the button. This was no easy task for Hyperkin Product Developer, Chris Gallizzi, although the experience is one he’d never forget.</p>
<p>&#8220;It has been a roller coaster of nostalgia, but one of the most fun projects I&#8217;ve worked on,” Gallizzi said.</p>
<p>The Hyperkin Duke is now available.</p>
