Today, 2K and Gearbox Software announced that New Tales from the Borderlands, a new standalone, choice-based interactive narrative adventure set in the Borderlands universe.

Players will face down a planetary invasion, vicious vault monster, and cold-hearted capitalists in this cinematic thrill ride where what happens next depends on their decisions. Every choice big or small can impact how the story unfolds, often in unexpected ways, and only by playing through the game will players fully understand how their decisions can change the Borderlands.

New Tales from the Borderlands is developed by Gearbox Software, led primarily by Gearbox Quebec – an incredible team with a deep history of creating compelling Borderlands narrative experiences. Gearbox Software also partnered with key alumni of the original Telltale Games narrative team to craft the all-new story in New Tales from the Borderlands.

New Tales from the Borderlands immerses players in a deep and original story full of unexpected turns, heartwarming emotion, and classic Borderlands humour. Within the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Promethea, players will decide the fates of three underdogs out to make mayhem their business, with altruistic scientist Anu, her ambitious “streetwise” brother Octavio, and the fierce, frogurt-flinging Fran.

Get your bad self back in to the Universe of Borderlands… well, sort of, in a Dungeons and Dragons flavoured first person fantastical adventure of Tiny Tina’s making.

There’s a bit of a hiatus happening, so the Borderlands crew decide to partake, willing or not, in Tiny Tina’s RPG table-top boardgame which she calls ‘Wonderlands’.

And true to the title it is a game that will shift, change and mash up genre’s in true Borderlands humor and play.

To start out with you’ll select from six character classes, Stabbomancer, Necromancer, Brr-Zerker to name a few, then after a wee bit of customizing you’re literally thrown in to a dynamically evolving adventure, at the will of Tina’s imagination.

You are on a Quest to save the Queen who has been imprisoned by the Evil Sorcerer. Familiar Borderlands characters will make a cameo throughout play too.

True to Borderland’s style of play, the guns are bigger and badder than ever. There’s more loot than you’ll ever wish for (and also wish that you could carry more stuff in your inventory) and your foes are a mixed bunch from Ogres to giant spiders, skeletons, evil fauna through to helpful pixies and some bad-ass boss like enemies.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a first person shooter (FPS) mixed with an RPG element.

There’s more than enough weapons to liberate from loot crates (and ammo too) and very quickly in to play you’ll find yourself lamenting over what to drop so you can acquire something with even more boom.

This said, differing guns have differing properties and you can also mod them and / or upgrade to a point.

New weapons and ammo top ups can be purchased in towns at vending machines – or if you have enough Eridium try the black market.

I found it was best to try and keep a mix of guns for the variety of enemies.

Your character’s class can be upgraded as well via Skill Points, earned when you go up a Level. If you do cool stuff and complete small and random objectives you’ll earn Bad-Ass tokens.

These are great – as you can beef up your weapons, reload times, shield and more.

There’s alot of upgrade goodness to be had.

Gameplay can be brutally difficult in parts, this adds to the length of play, and exploring. There’s stuff to be found everywhere.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands although a short-ish game is a fully fledged stand alone title that fans of Borderlands need to pick up. (At the time of writing this review the game is currently free on Epic store for PC).

And like it’s larger titles this one is a game you’re not going to want to stop marathoning, even when you finish it.

A grand slamm’in hitter for PC, 2K Games’ Borderlands series is readapted to a narrative based play by Telltale Games and released on consoles.

Telltale Games takes this dangerous and ragged world and brings to it unlikely characters and story. Though heavily based on decisions and passive actions there is still plenty of mayhem and death.

Tales from the Borderlands has had a full rework for the console version and includes all presently available DLC.

You decide the outcome of the game by way of selecting the narrative in time constrained choices.

Action sequences also fare this same route, for the most part – but make sure you get the timing right – and for a good lengthy play be careful of what choices you make.

Keeping true to the cell shaded style of the original Borderlands games, Tales from the Borderlands features various fast paced action sequences that really put the pressure on to possibly make or break a given scenario.

While the main focus is exploration and the ever stressful conversation decisions, the sporadic action sequences break what might be for some, a monotonous experience.

The action sections usually consist of quick-time-events and occasionally the actual aiming and shooting at enemies. So despite being a more interactive dialogue type game, there is still that over-the-top insane pandemonium that the Borderlands series is known for.

There are two main protagonists, Rhys and Fiona.

You go back and forth playing between the two and slowly discover the two sides of this particular story. Rhys, an employee of Hyperion, is just trying to work his way up the corporate ladder, which in order to do, he needs to “acquire” an elusive and highly sought after Vault Key.

To his dismay, one dubious decision leads to the next and Rhys soon finds himself caught up in more than he bargained for.

Fiona soon jumps in with her side of events on Pandora.

The game makes many references to the original games and even throws in a few cameos of well-known Borderlands characters. The most notable of these, the infamous Handsome Jack, who plays a pivotal role in this game.

Tales from the Borderlands is definitely amusing and certainly captures the humor and general fun tone the Borderlands series is known for. The story itself takes many twists and turns, though some predictable, overall it was a story that contained a bit of everything and the characters carried it well.

Being a fan of the Borderlands series it was certainly nice to revisit a familiar world from a very different perspective.

Those who may have never picked up a Borderlands game need not worry as Tales from the Borderlands does carry its own quite well.

However, there will be some references that may be lost on you and there are likely to be spoilers if you retroactively play any of the Borderlands games (excluding Borderlands 3 which released after).

Any gamer of almost any genre should give Tales from the Borderlands a serious go and for the Borderlands fans out there, well its Pandora like you have never experienced it before.

Just in time for Borderlands 3’s one-year anniversary, Gearbox Software and 2K have revealed their plans for the future of Borderlands® 3 – including full next-gen support, a new skill tree for each Vault Hunter, additional co-op features, and more – during the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase.

Leading the way: confirmation that Borderlands 3 is coming to both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. If you already own the current-gen version of the game on Xbox One and you’re playing on Xbox Series X, you’ll receive a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version. And if you own the game on PlayStation 4, you’ll receive a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version if you’re playing on PlayStation 5. This applies to all content you’ve purchased, as well as all your saves. You’ll be able to bring everything over to the new console generation.

In addition to running at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in single-player, the next-gen console versions of Borderlands 3 will include two highly requested local co-op features, free for all players. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to play four-player split-screen, and when enjoying two-player co-op, you’ll have the option to divide the screen horizontally or vertically. That’s right, vertical split-screen! Better still, this vertical split-screen option will also be added to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game via a free patch.

Borderlands 3 will also receive additional add-on content later this year! Though the next paid add-on won’t look like the campaign DLCs of the now complete Season Pass, it will include a brand new game mode, as well as one new skill tree for each Vault Hunter – and with those new skill trees come new Action Skills.

During the Gearbox PAX Digital Showcase, Gearbox gave viewers an in-depth look at FL4K’s new “Trapper” skill tree – which emphasizes shields and survivability for both FL4K and their pet – plus FL4K’s new Action Skill: Gravity Snare, a throwable trap that tosses enemies up into the air before slamming them back into the ground. Enemies caught in its radius will have their attacks interrupted, giving FL4K a crowd control skill for the first time.

Gearbox also revealed FL4K’s latest pet option: a Hyperion Loaderbot. FL4K’s special Loaderbot buddy can be spec’d in a variety of ways as you work your way down the skill tree: there’s the range-based ION Loader, which fires slow-moving projectiles can be shot to create powerful shock novas; the BUL Loader, which charges enemies and knocks them into the air with its shield (or just roundhouse kicks them); and the WAR Loader, which packs an incendiary shotgun, can toss grenades, and unleashes homing missiles on command.

Expect more information on the other skill trees, the new game mode, and all the other content in Borderlands 3’s next downloadable add-on in the coming months. And come next near, you may even see some news about crossplay coming to Borderlands 3.

Laced Records once again teams up with Gearbox Software and 2K Games to bring the original soundtrack to the definitive looter-shooter, Borderlands, to vinyl.

The 2009 smash hit Borderlands blended first-person shooting with role-playing elements, fused single-player with multiplayer experiences, provided bazillions of guns to be looted, and told a comedic action-packed story through a radical hand-drawn art style. It also kept fans coming back with an extensive slate of DLC that consistently expanded the world and characters.

The richly talented composition team brought several different flavours to the game. Legendary composer Jesper Kyd (Assassin’s Creed, Hitman) set the tone with dirty, dusty, percussion-heavy musical soundscapes flecked with Wild West guitars. Duo Sascha Dikiciyan & Cris Velasco (with credits including Quake 2 & 3, Unreal Tournament, Mass Effect 3, God of War 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) brought the filth and the danger to battle cues. Borderlands series stalwart Raison Varner contributed outlandish battle tracks and, alongside Tim Larkin (DOTA 2, Artifact), saw to some of the more atmospheric and ambient pieces.

Thirty tracks from the original soundtrack, including bonus tracks not before released on physical formats, have been specially remastered for vinyl and will be pressed onto 180g LPs. These will be housed in a wide spined gatefold sleeve.

Sleeve artwork was produced in collaboration with Gearbox Software’s Borderlands art team.

The Borderlands (Original Soundtrack) double LP is available as a Limited Edition with pink discs, exclusive to the Laced Records store. Also available is the Standard Edition with traditional black discs.

Claptrap and crew besiege Nintendo’s Switch.

Th entire Borderlands series has been crunched down and ported over to the hybrid console bringing the entire saga and it’s DLC’s from console and PC to you on the go or at home.

Going back to the original 2009 Borderlands PS3 and PC release Borderlands is the first visit to Pandora as one of four vault hunters in search for an elusive alien vault.

An instant hit, Borderlands’ first person, RPG mash up gives players the freedom to roam and explore as they partake on both main missions and side quests.

Explosive ammo mixed with in-your-face humour made Borderlands relatable to non FPS gamers and after selling millions of copies there were four DLC’s released.

Borderlands was the birth of a franchise.

Borderlands 2 shot up our PC’s and game consoles in 2012.

Increasing the amount of selectable Vault Hunters from four to six you again embark on a main campaign with a multitude of side quests, hoarding ammo, killing and pillaging once again on the planet Pandora.

But this time round the eclectic mix of Pandora dwellers are under the tyrannical rule of a mysterious bad guy known as Handsome Jack.

Once again Borderlands 2 comes in as a heavyweight title and overly pleases fans of the first game.

Eventually DLC’s are released in quick succession and Borderlands 2 even made a port over the PS Vita.

With Handsome Jack being the charismatic and best baddie in video gaming 2K Games and Gearbox couldn’t just let him be forgotten. So Borderlands – The Handsome Jack title was spawned.

Close to this timeframe was Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, another killer stand-alone in the franchise.

And yes, all are now on Switch.

So how does it play? Are there sacrifices made, is it glitchy? Is it laggy?

Focusing on console, Borderlands first released on PS3 and with the power of the Nintendo Switch, the first game plays exactly as it did back in 2009. Perfect.

Borderlands 2, again was a hitter on PS3, the PS Vita port lost some detail to the cell shaded graphics and shadowing renders, but was still superb. This new Switch port has all the goods and nothing sacrificed.

As we leap into next gen with Handsome Jack and The Pre-Sequel having released on both PS4 and Xbox One (okay, yeah – also released on PS3 and Xbox 360) there are some slight differences.

On handheld both games are crisp and clean, but when using the Switch on the TV screen the tiny console’s graphic processor shows some weakness.

It’s only slight and you really need to see both side by side to notice the loss in detail. Nonetheless both play absolutely smoothly and the cell shaded goodness with minimal loss is all there.

I am a huge fan of the Borderlands series – having been one of the converted from gamers who don’t like FPS (First Person Shooters) to loving every bullet spraying moment.

The Borderlands Collection for Switch divvies up the games, so you can pick and choose.

If you have played the recently released Borderlands 3 but have never experienced any of the predecessors in the series, I definitely recommend grabbing your Switch and going back to the early days of Pandora and the beginning of the Vault Hunters.

There’s literally a bazillion hours of gun running and looting to be had.

There are two vinyl editions of the Borderlands 3 OST: fans can choose between the 17-track double LP package with two audiophiles’ heavyweight 180g discs (one Solid Red, the other Solid White) housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve; or the 34-track Special Edition boasting four 180g discs (in light blue, dark green, red, and purple) each with a spined sleeve, all housed in a rigid board outer slipcase.

Vault hunters, grapple any of the bazillion guns on offer and get ready to loot all over again.

Borderlands 3 takes us back to Pandora, the semi-post apocalyptic wastelands dotted with outposts, rebels, rascals, cannibals and cybernetics.

The cross fused genre bending FPS RPG from 2K Games gives you the options of selecting your hero from four character classes; Fl4k who is mostly robot and has a penchant for Beasts, Amara who summons ethereal magic to battle with, Moze the ‘Gunner’ and a gadget wielding Operative.

With Handsome Jack long deceased and the fall of the Hyperion Corporation, you are guided for the most part by the memorable, witty and super annoying Claptrap droid as you pursue the long rumoured vaults containing tech and treasure.

The legend of these Vaults that contain an extreme wealth of booty has been the cause of demise for many a explorer (and Corporation), so naturally, you’re as keen as any of them to locate and pillage.

But you have an obstacle. Well… two.

Troy and Tyreen Calypso, who gave birth to the loosely organised group called ‘Children of the Vault’. A violent and crazed member filled series of satellite factions all made up of most of the bandits and no-gooders sprawled throughout Pandora – in search of the holy grail called the Great Vault.

You are answering the recruitment call by Lilith (Borderlands) who is in charge of the Crimson Raiders. A resistance movement designed to protect Pandora and any treasures within.

A multitude of missions are laid out in the free roam, destroy anyone and anything planetary explorer title with a huge RPG element.

Both your character (that you have chosen), weapons and unique abilities are upgrade-able via a simple to use skill tree. Further items can be purchased in-game, with in-game currency that you loot, at stores and/or traders.

Perks not only make up the voluminous amount of ‘a billion guns’ within Borderlands 3 but can add elemental power-ups aswell.

Online co-op in parties of up to four players, or single player offline equally results in the realisation of just how massively over-the-top super large and expansive the glorious cell-shaded Borderlands 3 is. Then there’s online missions, events and campaigns.

 You will not always stay on Pandora and will gain access to a space-craft and go intergalactic. Remember, there’s Vaults on other planets too…

Borderlands 3 has become 2KGames’ fastest selling title and I can absolutely see why.

The characters that we know and love from Borderlands 1 and 2 feature as NPC’s – and I have to admit is a welcoming familiarity as you encounter personalities from the past, making you feel like you are a part of an epic legacy.

Gearbox, developers of Borderlands 3, have absolutely placed a lot of crazed and enthusiastic love in to this third edition, listening to fans, staying within the Borderlands lore, all the while heaping on top so much sugary icing topping to the gritty and hardcore gameplay that awaits you.

Your quests are before you Hunter – stop reading this review, get looting and do some shooting.
