A defeated army and a fallen city, you are an injured warrior, down but not out, managing to escape the carnage to the enchanted island of Himmaphan.

It’s here you meet a mystical character who gives you an ancient and magical artefact known as Mythic Wings.

From here your path to vengeance for those that took your city and destroyed it begins.

Krut: The Mythic Wings is based on South Eastern Asia myths and lores and is played out as a 2.5D side scroll platformer.

The developers, Pixel Perfex have a lot of story to tell and this is done by way of a lot of static sequences choc-loaded with text.

The game has both an old-skool RPG feel to it and arcade as you go through the multi-tiered Levels killing foes and collecting tokens.

Your aim is to get back to where it all started, your city of Krut and defeat those that claimed the land.

But you alone cannot do this so as you progress your abilities will too and you’ll learn more on how to use the Mythic Wings that have been attached to you.

The combat system is simple but effective from light to heavy attacks as well as airborne melee and you can combo these up.

Interestingly you’re in for a challenge right from the box.

While enemies are generally taken down with a smack or two, they can take a huge chunk of life from you with just one hit, so learning to evade at the right time will be your biggest asset to get through this game.

Beautifully rendered Krut: The Mythical Wings was a surprise for an indie game with its flawless visuals.

This is a game to pick up if you’re after something light but with a serious challenge and if you enjoy a deep and thorough narrative.

Infliction: Extended Cut, the psychological horror game from developer Caustic Reality and publisher Blowfish Studios, unleashes terror today on a once-happy suburban family.

The “Extended Cut” of Infliction builds on the acclaimed and terrifying original Steam release by adding bone-chilling new content. The edition includes additional endings, a New Game Plus mode packed with bonus story content, remixed puzzles and scares, increased difficulty, as well as other shocking surprises.

Step into an interactive nightmare as Gary R. Pout and search for clues to piece together the tragedy that befell his family. Explore the family home over a period of 13 years, solving puzzles and uncovering the fates of its former residents, all while avoiding an evil spirit left in their wake.

Reveal secrets, clues, and hidden paths throughout the house. Avoid supernatural pursuers, dashing for cover, hiding under beds, or ducking into closets to avoid a dreadful demise. Push back against the malicious entities by utilizing light sources like Gary’s camera to repel otherworldly foes.

Infliction’s harrowing horror blends supernatural terror with contemporary anxieties to create a relatable story grounded in human moments. Experience a haunting narrative while dynamic atmospheric events strike, keeping even the most seasoned horror vets on their toes.

“I created Infliction as a way to explore fears and anxieties that manifested after my wife and I started a family,” said Clinton McCleary, founder of Caustic Reality and mission designer at Blowfish Studios. “It’s a horror game with scares everyone can relate to. And I’m thrilled to startle new players with Infliction: Extended Cut’s release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One today.”

Infliction: Extended Cut is now available on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft store. The Nintendo Switch version will be available on the Nintendo eShop later this year.

Experience an interactive nightmare delving into the darkness plaguing a once-happy home. Set in the aftermath of unthinkable tragedy, Infliction follows the trials of Gary R. Pout as he pieces together the mystery behind a harrowing series of events. Explore a contorted version of his family’s residence to discover a way out before he succumbs to the malevolent spirits within.

Evade a relentless paranormal pursuer by ducking into closets, darting under beds, or utilizing light sources like camera flashes to make a fleeting getaway and continue Gary’s search. During the struggle to survive, pore over household objects for secrets, hidden messages, and clues to find new paths, make revelations, and hopefully bring this terrifying ordeal to an end.

It wasn’t hard to sell War Tech Fighters to me. Build your mechs and defeat lots of enemies in space on my Switch while I am on my commute sounds like the perfect way to start the day, but what I got wasn’t quite what I hoped for.

Kicking into War Tech Fighters I quickly realised that the game wasn’t quite right for being on the move. The writing was far too small on the little screen, so I had no idea what was going on in the plot. This resigned me to put it away and try again when I could dock my Switch. What I didn’t realise was that I was missing little to nothing here, with a story that was so thin that I can’t even recall it now.

The real reason you would pick up War Tech Fighters is for the war, the tech and the fighters, which there is plenty of. The gameplay is relatively simple, in that you move your mech around, shooting at enemies using heavy and light attacks. When an enemy is low on health you can do some pretty cool executions, but except for some nuances that is the gist of the gameplay.

The mechs themselves are easily the best part of the game. You initially pick a class between the Hawk, The Lynx and the Rhino which have different stats such as higher defence, higher attack, or the all-rounder. Then as you complete missions you level up and collect resources letting you buy more upgrades for different parts of your mech, plus completing special missions’ nets you even better upgrades. The decent number of upgrades and colour variations do let you customise it to suit the way you play to a decent degree.

The game’s biggest problem is moving around. It uses the clunky system whereby you feel like you move around on the x axis and use different buttons to float up or down. Some attacks make it more fluent to move on the Y axis, but it feels so weird and clunky for a game released this year.

The game looks decent enough. Its anime look, and to be honest the whole vibe of the game, feels like it has been ripped straight from a decent series. The mechs look good, and the customisation adds to its looks, but that isn’t enough to justify the game, especially with its text being poorly optimised for handheld mode.

If War Tech Fighters came from an anime series, then it would get a little more leeway as the story wouldn’t be quite as important and the clunky movement would be a minor inconvenience. But standing on its own with a forgettable plot it’s a tough recommend.

Once you get used to the gameplay the grinding is fun enough and repayable, but it isn’t the best one for playing in handheld on a bumpy train.

Remember Minesweeper? It’s back, but on steroids. Sort of.

Minesweeper Genius, is a modern take on the classic game of logic from developer Mgaia Studio and publisher Blowfish Studios.

In Minesweeper Genius, aliens have acquired Aristotle’s DNA and cloned him to conduct experiments in labs filled with explosive land mines. It’s up to players to sweep their way through each level, moving Aristotle from one square to the next en route to the exit while avoiding subterranean dangers. Numbers on each row and column indicate how many mines are near, tasking players with working out where they are without making a costly mistake.

Aristotle’s challenge gets more complicated when special tiles come into play, introducing new obstacles that alter or restrict his movement around the alien labs. Use flags to keep track of where hidden hazards are and enjoy relaxing music while working out solutions.

Minesweeper Genius helps make the rules of Minesweeper more accessible with a learning curve that acclimates players to the mechanics and logic required to solve puzzles in the game’s 130 standard levels. Puzzle experts can then try to sweep through the 55 extra difficult stages. Conquer everything and need a new test? Take on the console-exclusive Custom Level mode, where new puzzles are procedurally generated based on adjustable settings.

“Minesweeper Genius takes me back to our uni days, when we’d procrastinate on preparing for exams by trying to conquer the most ridiculous Minesweepergrids possible,” said Ben Lee, CEO, Blowfish Studios. “I look forward to a new generation enjoying Mgaia’s wonderfully original take on this classic experience now that Minesweeper Genius is available for consoles.”

Minesweeper Genius is now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

War Tech Fighters, the sci-fi mech action game from publisher Blowfish Studios and developer Drakkar Dev, hurtles through space onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Q2 2019.

After a devastating war, the ruthless Zatros empire claimed the home planets of the Hebos and Ares colonies. Pilots from the remnants of the shattered colonies fight fiercely for their independence in fully-customizable mechs called War Tech. Captain Nathan Romanis leads the talented squadron in their desperate struggle to reclaim their home.

Choose between the Hawk, Lynx or Rhino class (light, balanced, and heavy) War Techs and customize them with over 180 upgradeable parts and systems. Modify bullet, laser, sword, and magnetic weapons, or create a flying tank with high shields and defense. Thousands of custom paint and livery options ensure that each pilot feels ownership over their War Tech. Explore space and find hidden parts to access new War Tech sets and new weapons. Level up each mech to unlock their true potential.

A War Tech’s agility and destructive capabilities shine in space as they launch brutal assaults from long-range and narrow the gap for up close and personal sword battles and stylish execution moves. But fighting isn’t everything when it comes to War Techs. Performing high-risk stealth missions, navigating through radiation fields, intercepting coded messages and solving environmental puzzles are all in a day’s work for pilots.

War Tech Fighters brings together the fantastic mech universes of anime and Hollywood blockbusters into a fast-paced first or third-person adventure. Take down the Zatros empire across 33 single-player missions, train in the simulator, complete challenges or enter Survival mode against an unending onslaught for special rewards and fight for the top of the global leaderboards.

Exclusive to the console release of War Tech Fighters is the new Archangel War Tech special set, featuring the powerful Glory Sword, Redemption Halberd, and Faith Shield. Available from the start of the game, the Archangel can turn the tides when a mission might be too difficult with other mechs.

“As huge mecha aficionados, War Tech Fighters is our love letter to fans of the genre,” said Manlio Greco, co-founder of Drakkar Dev. “Bringing the game to new platforms lets us spread that love even further.”

War Tech Fighters releases for consoles in later in 2019.

Subdivision Infinity DX, the immersive and pulse-pounding sci-fi 3D space shooter from developer Mistfly Games and publisher Blowfish Studios, will blast onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC in early 2019.

Step into the cockpit of an intergalactic fighter and explore the great expanses of outer space. With more than 40 engaging story missions and sidequests spanning several star systems, Subdivision Infinity DX is an action-packed journey brimming with dogfights, boss battles, and more set against the stunning wild outer reaches of the cosmos.

The story begins when contractor Sgt. Jed Riddle is brought in to investigate a mining facility that has mysteriously gone radio silent. A tense shootout ensues, leading Riddle to take a closer look into what exactly is going on and the dark secrets lurking in the shadows.

Beyond the core narrative and exhilarating feeling of piloting a nimble spacecraft on the fringes of the galaxy, Subdivision Infinity DX features an array of optional content to allow players to explore the stars to their hearts content while taking on bounties, mining asteroids for rare minerals, unlocking new ships, and crafting increasingly powerful upgrades along the way.

“Exploring outer space in Subdivision Infinity DX is an absolute blast,” said Ben Lee, founder, Blowfish Studios. “We look forward to allowing players to live out their sci-fi fantasies in the game when it launches for PC and consoles early next year.”

Blowfish Studios will showcase Subdivision Infinity DX at PAX Aus 2018 alongside other titles from the publisher’s catalogue.

Storm Boy: The Game, an adaptation of the novella exploring the friendship between a child and his pet pelican, will soar to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Mac, iOS, and Android in late 2018, Blowfish Studios announced to us at STG.

Based on Colin Thiele’s 1964 children’s book of the same name, Storm Boy takes place on the beaches of South Australia near the mouth of the Murray River, where the titular protagonist rescues orphaned pelican chicks, one of whom later becomes the child’s pet and faithful companion, Mr. Percival.

Experience an interactive retelling of the classic tale by taking control of both Storm Boy and Mr. Percival in key moments, such as when the pair rescued stranded sailors during a storm. Relive their friendship and enjoy seaside activities across a wide assortment of fun and relaxing mini-games, including sand drawing, sailing, cockle hunting, playing fetch, sand surfing, pelican feeding, and more.

Players can also enjoy Storm Boy by flying around the Coorong amongst flocks of other birds or alone, taking in painterly, dream-like views of the untamed lagoons and coastline.

“Storm Boy is a classic piece of literature in Australia, and we’re proud to adapt it for a new medium,” said Ellen Jurik, Senior Producer, Blowfish Studios. “We hope players of all ages will enjoy this story, whether it’s for the first time or through a new lens, and can’t wait to share it with the world when we release it for consoles, PC, and mobile devices later this year.”

Storm Boy will be playable ahead of its release later this year (2018) PAX West and PAX Australia.

Projection: First Light, the puzzle platformer from developer Shadowplay Studios and publisher Blowfish Studios, will step into the spotlight for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Q2 2018, simultaneously alongside the previously-announced PC and Mac versions.

Projection: First Light follows the adventures of Greta, a girl living in a mythological shadow puppet world, as she embarks on a journey of self-enlightenment with the assistance of legendary heroes from each culture she explores.

Accompanied by atmospheric visuals and an ethereal soundtrack made with antique instruments used for shadow puppet performances, Projection: First Light takes players on an inclusive voyage through the history of shadow puppets as it evolves through Indonesia, China, Turkey, Greece, and 19th century England.

Early in her expedition, Greta takes control of a source of light and learns of her ability to manipulate it. Shadows become platforms and walls, other elegant and imaginative solutions irradiate puzzles, and enemies can be dispersed – as Projection: First Light explores themes of worldliness, respect and understanding.

To ensure accuracy and beauty in the art of shadow puppetry, Shadowplay Studios consulted with Richard Bradshaw, a renowned Australian puppeteer and historian of his craft, whose insights helped Shadowplay Studios highlight the cultures behind shadow puppets through the ages.

“The idea behind Projection: First Light went off like a lightbulb in my head when I recalled playing with shadows on a wall as a child,” said Michael Chu, Founder, Shadowplay Studios. “After toying with light manipulation at a game jam, we discovered the concept had a number of wonderful gameplay applications, which we hope to share with the gaming community along with the rich art and history behind shadow puppetry when Projection: First Light releases early next year.”

Shadowplay Studios is a small indie games team based in Australia. Their aim is to create games with innovative mechanics and unique experiences.
