A mysterious floating purple crystal. An adventurer whose biggest talent is clumsiness.

A Knight’s Quest sees you assume the role of a would-be hero Rusty, who after exploring a cave comes across a large crystal in the center of it.

Accidentally activating it the power within the giant gemstone unleashes. The crystal soars in to the sky as the cave and surrounding areas begin to crumble. Oops.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, the crystal awakens the dead…

A local village, headed by Mayor Munsch talks heralds his worried civilians with tales of three mythical Guardians that will be tasked with protecting everyone. A young girl, Valy, who aides Rusty is dubious as to whether the three Guardians have intentions other than their own – if they even exist.

Curve Digital  and Epic Games have likened their new adventure platformer to the Zelda games. It is… and it isn’t. It’s more of a fuse between Wonderboy and Zelda.

As Rusty’s adventures continue the game takes on a RPG-like element.

You will roam the vast lands and talk with other NPC’s. Make choices, gather info and collectibles and eventually gain powers which are assigned to hotkeys on the D-Pad.

A Knight’s Quest is a fun to play title and makes a wide use of platformer game tropes from the late 80’s and 90’s.

Run and jump, wall run (to the likes of Prince Persia games) and take down enemies in comical melee combat – actually, I misjudged the level of difficulty. A Knight’s Quest might look like a kiddies game – it certainly isn’t.

And this leads me in to the graphics of this one.

In short – somewhat outdated. Appearing more like a top budget PlayStation 2 title, A Knight’s Quest, although lavish with it’s environments, character modelling needs some detail. This said, I also feel as though that this may have been the look that the devs were going for – to be fair, this is a throwback game to older platformers.

A Knight’s Quest is an enjoyable play. A light narrative peppered with cheesy humour – it is a good chill out title and definitely one for retro gamers to pick up.
