Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel Rivals Headline SDCC 2026 as Hall H Reveals Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3
San Diego Comic-Con’s 2026 edition delivered its biggest haul of Marvel gaming news in years, with Insomniac Games unveiling a new story trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine and NetEase confirming fresh content for Marvel Rivals, even as Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel stole headlines with the casting of Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and David Jonsson as the MCU’s next Black Panther.
Marvel’s Wolverine Trailer Puts Deathstrike and The Hand Front and Centre
Insomniac Games shared a fresh look at Marvel’s Wolverine during its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, unveiling a new story trailer that offers a closer look at Logan’s journey, opening with a tense confrontation between Wolverine and Jean Grey. The footage also confirms that The Hand will serve as one of the game’s enemy factions, while Deathstrike is introduced as one of the title’s primary antagonists.
Game Director Mike Daly shared that Marvel’s Wolverine takes place on Earth 1048, the same as Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man series, and in the gameplay shown, Logan appears alongside Jean Grey and Team X, featuring Sabretooth and Mystique. Notably, there is no Xavier Institute in this version of the story, with mutants scattered, frightened, and largely forced to survive in hiding.
Marvel’s Wolverine releases on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Tōkon Crossover Suit and Composer David Fleming Confirmed
Insomniac also announced a collaboration with Arc System Works, with players able to unlock Wolverine’s costume from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls through gameplay in Marvel’s Wolverine from day one. The reverse also holds true, with Wolverine’s Battle Reborn suit heading to Tōkon on September 1.
The studio confirmed that David Fleming is composing the game’s soundtrack, designed to evolve alongside Logan’s journey with dynamic musical cues accompanying key moments throughout the adventure. The full soundtrack will be released on August 28, 2026.
Fans looking to learn more about the game’s story before release can also read a new digital prequel comic, written by Narrative Director Walt Williams with artwork by Luke Ross and a cover by Iban Coello, exploring Logan’s relationship with members of Team X before the events of the game.
Marvel Rivals Adds Age of Ultron PvE Mode on July 30
As the hero shooter continues rolling out modes inspired by Marvel Studios’ Avengers movies, fans got a first look at the new Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Age of Ultron PvE mode launching on July 30, with players battling as Avengers against Ultron’s army through Avengers Tower and Ultron’s Data Space.
NetEase and Marvel Games also used the convention floor to keep the roster’s voice cast in front of fans. Attendees met the voice talent behind Moon Knight, Angela, The Punisher, Emma Frost, Cloak and Rogue in a live Q&A session on the show floor. A second panel dug into the game’s visual and narrative pipeline heading into the rest of 2026’s live-service calendar.
Hall H: Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider and David Jonsson’s Black Panther
The movie side of Marvel’s weekend produced the loudest gasps. Kevin Feige took the Hall H stage to make the first major announcement of the presentation, revealing that Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a new film directed by Shawn Levy, set for release in 2028. Gosling appeared on stage himself, telling the crowd, “Is this really happening? As you know this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.”
Black Panther’s future was settled minutes later. Ryan Coogler confirmed he is back to direct the third Black Panther movie, releasing on December 15, 2028, with Letitia Wright returning as Shuri, and new story details revealing the film will star the grown-up son of T’Challa from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, played by David Jonsson. Jonsson himself walked out to accept the role, saying simply, “The honor is entirely mine.”
The film news ties directly back to the games on show at the same convention: Marvel Games has repeatedly used movie casting and character reveals to seed content in Marvel Rivals and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and both the Ghost Rider logo and Black Panther 3 title card debuted the same weekend Insomniac was showing off its own corner of the shared Marvel universe just a few halls away.
For Australian and New Zealand fans, none of the SDCC reveals change existing release plans: Marvel’s Wolverine remains dated for its worldwide PS5 launch on September 15, and the Tōkon crossover content and Marvel Rivals’ new PvE mode are expected to roll out simultaneously across all regions, in line with the games’ existing global live-service update cadence.
