Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Exact Release Time: 8AM PDT July 28, 3AM NZST July 29

Halo: Campaign Evolved goes live for every standard-edition player at exactly the same instant worldwide: 8am PDT on July 28, 2026, which translates to 11am ET, 4pm BST, and — because the launch is a genuine global simultaneous drop rather than a midnight-in-each-timezone rollout — 3am NZST and 1am AEST on July 29 for players in New Zealand and Australia. Halo Studios confirmed the synchronized timing on Xbox Wire, and the studio’s own community team reiterated the same window in a Halo Waypoint Q&A published ahead of launch.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, rebuilt with new visuals, re-recorded voice work and three brand-new prequel missions starring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. For the first time in Halo: Campaign Evolved, wield 9 additional iconic weapons from across the series, hijack enemy rides, and pilot a drivable Wraith, in what is a faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. The remaster marks the series’ first appearance on PlayStation hardware, alongside its usual home on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Why the “New Zealand trick” won’t work this time

Players hoping to exploit the old trick of switching a console’s region to New Zealand to unlock a game hours early are out of luck. Because Halo Studios locked the launch to one global unix timestamp rather than staggered local midnights, it’s a global launch, meaning everywhere gets it technically at the same time, rendering the New Zealand trick obsolete, so changing your console region to New Zealand won’t unlock Halo: Campaign Evolved early. That means the actual clock-on-the-wall moment for Kiwi and Australian players simply falls in the early hours of July 29 local time rather than July 28, purely as an artefact of time zones rather than any regional discount.

Console owners who set their region to Australia won’t get an early jump either, since the underlying release is timed to a single moment across every platform and storefront simultaneously.

Five days of early access already wrapped up for Premium buyers

Players who pre-ordered the Premium or Collector’s Edition have already been playing since July 23, when early access opened at the same 8am PDT slot. Halo: Campaign Evolved launches globally on July 28, 2026, with early access beginning on July 23 for Premium Edition owners, according to Xbox Wire. Halo Waypoint’s own community team confirmed the identical schedule in its pre-launch Q&A, noting the game launches this month on July 28 – or as early as July 23 if you pre-order the Premium Edition to get up to 5 days of Early Access.

That early-access window is now closed to new buyers looking to jump the queue, since Xbox’s own storefront listing states the offer requires pre-order by July 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM local time. Anyone who missed that cutoff will need to wait for the same worldwide unlock as everyone else on the Standard Edition.

Standard vs Premium pricing and what each buys you

The Standard Edition sits at $49.99 USD, while the Premium Edition costs $69.99 USD and layers in the Foundry Armory Pack of Master Chief armour and weapon skins on top of the five-day early-access head start, per Xbox Wire’s official rundown. Existing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers who want that same early access without buying the full Premium tier have been able to pay a smaller upgrade fee instead, according to Pure Xbox’s coverage of the launch window.

Whichever edition players choose, the remake supports full crossplay and cross-progression, so a save file started on Xbox Series X|S can continue seamlessly on PC, Steam or PS5. Halo Studios has also confirmed physical retail copies will ship with an actual disc in the box on both Xbox and PlayStation, addressing a question that’s become increasingly relevant as Sony phases toward digital-only distribution on PS5 in the years ahead.

Preload sizes and getting ready before the unlock hits

Ahead of the full launch, preload data confirmed the download sits at roughly 69.8GB on Xbox Series X and 68.86GB on PC, a sizeable but manageable install compared with some of 2026’s other big remasters. Players on any platform are advised to have the preload finished and their Microsoft account linked well before the 8am PDT unlock, particularly PS5 and Steam owners who need that link active for crossplay and cross-progression to function correctly from the first minute of launch.
