Big Walk Crossplay Confirmed: PC, PS5 and Switch 2 Players Can Walk Together

Yes, Big Walk has crossplay, and it’s live right out of the gate. House House and publisher Panic have confirmed that the cooperative “walker-talker” adventure supports full cross-platform multiplayer across PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 following its August 4, 2026 launch, meaning a mixed group of console and PC players can hike into the same session together without any workarounds.

The confirmation comes straight from House House’s own support channels. Big Walk has crossplay support, so players on different systems can play together. That’s backed up by the official launch press release distributed through Panic, which states plainly that Big Walk also supports cross-platform play, allowing friends to connect whether they are playing on their PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch 2, or a PS5.

How Crossplay Works: Friends Lists and Join Codes

Connecting across platforms isn’t automatic matchmaking — Big Walk has none of that. Independent reporting from GamesRadar confirms if your friends are using the same platform as you and are on your friends list, they will automatically appear in the menu to connect with, while if your friends are on other platforms, the host can provide a unique Join Code for their session that anyone else can use to connect with them.

That design is deliberate. GamesRadar also notes that Big Walk crossplay is an important consideration for this quirky adventure, because there is no single-player mode or online matchmaking available as it’s designed to be played cooperatively with the same group of friends over multiple sessions. VideoGamer’s coverage of the launch confirms the scale of that shared adventure, reporting that Big Walk can be played by groups of between two and 12 people, with cross-platform multiplayer allowing PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 players to join the same adventure.

The Host Holds the Save — And That Means No Cross-Progression

Crossplay does not extend to cross-progression, and House House’s FAQ is explicit about the trade-off. The game host saves your progress automatically, as a Big Walk host is the keeper of the save game and all of your progress, so the host of your group will need to start playing first. Once a host starts a session, the other players can then connect to it. When the host stops the session, all other players will be disconnected.

Practically, that means the same person needs to relaunch the session every time a group wants to pick up where they left off, regardless of which console or PC everyone else is using to connect. Copies of the game are also tied to whichever storefront they were bought on, so grabbing it on Steam won’t unlock a PS5 or Switch 2 copy, or vice versa.

Who’s Missing: No Xbox Version at Launch

The crossplay pool currently covers three platform families — Steam (Windows and Mac), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 — but not Xbox. Panic’s official release confirms the game will be available on AUGUST 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, Steam (PC and Mac), and PlayStation 5 for $19.99 USD, with a 25% off launch discount, with no Xbox Series X|S version announced. Xbox owners hoping to join friends on other systems will need to sit this one out for now, as no future port has been confirmed by either House House or Panic.

On PlayStation, there’s an added incentive to jump in during launch week. The same release confirms that on PlayStation 5, it will debut as part of PlayStation®Plus’ Essential Tier when it launches, giving PS Plus subscribers a free way to test crossplay with PC and Switch 2 friends before committing to a purchase.

An Australian Studio’s Local Setting Adds a Home-Turf Angle

House House, the Melbourne studio previously known for Untitled Goose Game and Push Me Pull You, built Big Walk’s open landscape with a distinctly local flavour. VideoGamer reports that the game takes place in an open landscape inspired by Wilsons Promontory, the well-known Victorian coastal wilderness area — a detail that gives the release extra resonance for Australian and New Zealand players exploring the bush-inspired map in a session that might span a Sydney PC player, a Melbourne PS5 owner and a Auckland friend on Switch 2, all in the same walk.

Studio co-founder Stuart Gillespie-Cook framed the project’s origins around exactly that kind of shared, distanced experience. As quoted in the official launch materials, he said the team began work on the game “during COVID lockdown, when that was often the main way we’d spend time with each other,” and tried to “dial into the dynamics that make for a special shared experience.”

For groups scattered across different hardware, the takeaway is simple: crossplay is on by default, the Join Code system is the reliable fallback when platform friends lists don’t line up, and whoever agrees to be the regular host should expect to be the one clicking “start” every session from here on out.
