Sotheby’s itself confirmed the scale of the overshoot, noting the jacket sold for $960,000 at a New York auction on Friday, 16 times higher than the estimated value of $60,000, according to Sotheby’s.

The specific garment wasn’t just any jacket from Huang’s wardrobe. Sotheby’s listing states the jacket has been photomatched by PSA to Jensen Huang, co-founder and chief executive officer of Nvidia Corp., during the Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei on October 18, 2023. Professional Sports Authenticator matched the leather’s unique wrinkles and creases to photos from that event, while a separate signature on the piece was authenticated by James Spence Authentication.
Sotheby’s described the significance of the piece in its own words: “This is not only a jacket. Proceeds Fund the Edge Institute’s Fellowships and Grants

CNBC reported that Sotheby’s said in a statement that proceeds will go to a philanthropic initiative in support of the Edge Institute, which is a nonprofit dedicated to innovation, with proceeds from the sale going towards fellowships, grants, and residencies.

Nearly 20 Years of “Jensanity” Behind the Look
For gamers who know Nvidia only through GeForce RTX graphics cards and DLSS keynotes, the jacket’s cult status might seem odd — but it’s been building for years. CNBC noted that he’s been wearing them for nearly 20 years, and Huang has openly leaned into the persona.
