Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Hits Version 1.0.4 With Save-Corruption Fix

Nintendo has pushed out Version 1.0.4 for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on Switch, a patch aimed squarely at squashing a rare but serious save-data corruption bug tied to the game’s Island Builder tool. The update went live on July 22, 2026, and continues a steady cadence of stability-focused patches Nintendo has issued since the life-simulation title launched.

Island Builder Save Corruption Among the Fixes

The update fixes a rare issue where using Island Builder could corrupt save data, preventing the game from starting during future play sessions. That kind of bug is about as serious as it gets for a life-sim built around long-term island management, so its resolution is likely to be the headline fix for most players who noticed the problem.

Nintendo also addressed an issue where the game could fail to progress properly after resolving a Mii character’s concerns, resulting in an error that caused the game to close. On top of that, the Mii characters on posters at the clothing shop would not display correctly, and the Mii characters on posters at the Ferris wheel or the news station were unevenly selected. Nintendo’s official support page, which hosts the full patch notes, notes that additional unlisted tweaks were made to improve overall gameplay.

A Pattern of Monthly Bug-Fix Patches Since April Launch

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo, launched for Nintendo Switch on April 16, 2026. Since then, the Mii-based life simulator has received a steady stream of maintenance updates roughly once a month, with Nintendo prioritising stability over new content in each release.

The previous patch, Version 1.0.3, arrived on June 25, 2026, according to Nintendo’s own support documentation. That update fixed an issue that prevented game progression after trying to visit a Mii character from the Mii List at the same time that Mii character entered or exited the Ferris wheel, an issue with receiving money that, on rare occasion, prevented the amount of money the player has from displaying properly, which then prevented game progression, and an issue where, on rare occasion, raising a Mii character’s satisfaction level repeatedly could trigger an error and cause the game to close. That same patch also made a change to the local play mode, where Mii and other creations can’t be sent this way if the island or player name features numbers or text subject to display restrictions.

Before that, Version 1.0.2 landed in May, tackling separate progression-blocking bugs. That patch fixed an issue where, after a Mii character confesses successfully and the player tries to save, it is displayed that “your save data is corrupted,” and the player is not able to save, along with a similar corruption message triggered when multiple Mii characters started living together. Together with 1.0.4’s Island Builder fix, it’s clear save-data integrity has been a recurring headache Nintendo has had to chase across several updates.

Cross-Console Support for Switch and Switch 2

Nintendo’s support pages confirm the update history applies across both hardware generations, with the patch downloadable on Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the original Switch thanks to backwards compatibility. As with previous updates, existing save data carries over automatically once the patch installs, and Nintendo reminds players that anyone hoping to play together locally needs to be running the same software version.

For Kiwi and Australian players, the update should already be rolling out via the eShop’s automatic download setting, matching the same July 22 release window seen in North American and European Nintendo support listings. There’s no regional lockout or staggered release mentioned in Nintendo’s notes, so islanders in NZ and AU should be able to grab the fix at the same time as everyone else.

What Nintendo Hasn’t Added Yet

Notably absent from 1.0.4, as with the patches before it, is any new content, shops or activities. Every update since launch has been framed purely around bug fixes and quality-of-life polish rather than expansions, leaving the core Tomodachi Life loop of Mii relationships, island building and Ferris-wheel gossip unchanged since April. Whether Nintendo has bigger feature updates planned for the life-sim further down the track remains unconfirmed.
