Switch 2 File Sizes: FF14 Hits 117.2GB, Xenoblade 2 Edition Jumps to 45.8GB

Fresh eShop listings have confirmed download sizes for a wave of Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch games launching in the coming days, with Final Fantasy XIV Online topping the pile at a hefty 117.2GB and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition nearly tripling to 45.8GB. The figures were pulled directly from Nintendo’s storefronts and independently verified across multiple outlets ahead of both games’ launches.

Final Fantasy XIV Online’s 117.2GB install confirmed on Nintendo’s own store

Nintendo’s official US storefront lists 117.2 GB as the required install size for Final Fantasy XIV Online on Switch 2, a figure that matches what Square Enix has been quoting since the port was first detailed. The MMORPG is due on Nintendo’s new console on August 4th, and Nintendo Life independently reported the same estimate, noting the estimated file size is listed as 117GB in the game’s own listing.

That makes FFXIV one of the biggest single downloads Switch 2 owners have faced so far. Notebookcheck’s analysis pointed out that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was the largest Switch 2 game at over 102 GB before this listing appeared, with only the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], demanding 131 GB, sitting above it. The same report noted the game’s bulk comes down to years of accumulated content, since the issue with FF14 is that expansions including Dawntrail have appeared at a steady clip, and that whether buyers purchase the Starter, Complete, or Complete Collector’s Editions determines which add-ons are bundled — though the base installer size stays the same regardless of edition.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s Switch 2 Edition more than triples its original footprint

The remastered Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, arriving July 30, now weighs in at 45.8GB according to Nintendo’s own Australian eShop listing, which lists the title at a plain 45.8GB alongside its supported play modes and cloud save details. That’s a dramatic jump from the base Switch release, and RPG Site’s coverage of the game’s version 3.0.0 update confirmed the scale of the upgrade separately, reporting that the install size for the upgrade pack is listed as 30.7GB on the eShop for players who already own the original game and just need the enhancement pack.

RPG Site also flagged an important caveat for anyone budgeting storage around the DLC: the physical edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will not include the Expansion Pass, mirroring how Nintendo handled Breath of the Wild’s own Switch 2 re-release. The Switch 2 Edition officially is available to play starting July 30, 2026, putting it right alongside Blue Reflection Quartet’s launch window on the new hardware.

Blue Reflection Quartet, Truxton Extreme and the rest of the roundup

Koei Tecmo’s Blue Reflection Quartet, the four-in-one compilation of the BLUE REFLECTION series, comes in at 34.7GB on Switch 2 compared with a much lighter footprint on the original Switch. The compilation itself was confirmed for a release on 30 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC via Steam by Koei Tecmo, and RPG Site separately noted that the Switch 2 release will be digital-only worldwide and it will not feature any upgrade path or save transfer from earlier versions of the individual games.

Further down the eShop roundup sit a mix of smaller Switch 2 and Switch releases, including shoot-’em-up Truxton Extreme at 9.8GB, a pair of Prince of Tennis rhythm/visual-novel spin-offs sized between 5.6GB and 5.7GB on Switch 2 (roughly 3.3GB to 3.4GB on the older Switch), and lighter indie titles like Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, Ira, Constance, Valkyrie Saga and Bokura, several of which weigh in under 2GB even on the newer hardware.

What the growing file sizes mean for Switch 2’s 256GB storage

Switch 2 ships with 256GB of internal storage, and Nintendo’s own product listings for these bigger titles carry a standing reminder that Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards for expandable storage — a newer, pricier card standard than the microSD cards used by the original Switch. With FF14 alone requiring close to half of that built-in space, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s remaster and Blue Reflection Quartet adding another 80GB combined if players want both day one, Kiwi and Australian owners weighing up digital purchases may want to check local microSD Express pricing before committing to multiple big downloads in the same week.

For context on just how quickly Switch 2’s storage demands have escalated, Notebookcheck’s tracking shows Square Enix ports have repeatedly reset the bar, after Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Rebirth each landed north of 85GB and 100GB respectively earlier this year. With FFXIV Online’s subscription-based MMORPG now added to that list on August 4, and two more sizeable remasters landing July 30, this week’s eShop roundup is shaping up as one of the heaviest stretches yet for Switch 2 owners’ free space.
