Super Mario Maker 2’s “Banned Wagon” troll race finally happens
Ahead of the Resident Evil block, Super Mario Maker 2 got a race years in the making. The RE Requiem run was prefaced by a Super Mario Maker 2 troll race featuring three of the community’s most recognizable troll runners and creators — juzcook, Marble and CarlSagan42. Shacknews described the pitch as one CarlSagan42 and juzcook had been pushing for a long time, with their day finally arriving, pitting the pair against courses built by Marble and the rest of the so-called Banned Wagon level-design crew.
Marathon nears $1 million in its 10th year back in the Twin Cities
The speedrunning has come with real fundraising momentum. Shacknews reported the total had passed over $987,000 after five days of runs, all going to Doctors Without Borders. MPR News, covering the event’s return to Minneapolis, noted the marathon is back for its 10th year in the Twin Cities, with speedrunners pushing video games to the absolute brink for a good cause, underlining how deeply the event has embedded itself in the city’s summer calendar since GDQ first brought SGDQ there.
