World of Warcraft: Forever Announced, a Third Way to Play the Vanilla Era

Blizzard’s biggest World of Warcraft reveal at BlizzCon 2026 was not another expansion. It was a whole new way to play. World of Warcraft: Forever is a third official WoW experience alongside Modern and Classic, and it reimagines the Vanilla era with brand-new content instead of just replaying the 2004 game.
What World of Warcraft: Forever actually is
Forever lets Blizzard carve new paths through classic Azeroth and explore corners of the world that never existed the first time around. It ships with three new zones, more than 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, two new raids, and a new Skyborne race. The pitch is nostalgia with room to grow: the feel of old-school WoW, but with fresh content that keeps coming rather than a fixed snapshot.
Release date and beta
You will not wait long. World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, with beta access starting September 17. That makes it the closest new WoW experience on the calendar, arriving just weeks after its reveal.

Why a third version of WoW matters
Modern WoW and Classic already run as separate games with separate subscriptions bundled into one. Forever adds a third pillar, and it signals how Blizzard now treats WoW as a platform rather than a single game. Classic proved there is huge demand for the old-school experience, but Classic is ultimately a museum piece that replays fixed content. Forever is the interesting middle path: the Vanilla feel that players love, kept alive with new zones, dungeons and raids that did not exist in 2004. If it lands, it gives lapsed players a reason to come back that is neither the sprawling modern game nor a nostalgia rerun they have already finished.
Forever was one half of a busy WoW showing at BlizzCon. The other was a first look at The Last Titan, the finale of the Worldsoul Saga, which we cover separately.
