Where Winds Meet: Hidden Mountain Chapter 2 “Heaven’s Threshold” Arrives August 20

Everstone Studio and NetEase Games have locked in August 20 (UTC) for the launch of “Heaven’s Threshold,” the second chapter of the Hidden Mountain expansion for Where Winds Meet. The update sends players well past the mountain city and up into the cliffs, building directly on the steampunk-flavoured region that arrived just weeks ago.

The free-to-play wuxia action RPG, developed by Everstone Studio and published by NetEase Games across PC, PS5, Xbox, iOS and Android, has been steadily expanding since its Hidden Mountain region debuted on July 23 alongside the game’s Version 2.0 update, subtitled “Unseen Approach.” Chapter 2 continues that story arc rather than opening a brand-new region from scratch.

Cloudtop Ascent Event Unlocks Heaven’s Threshold Gradually

Picking up right after chapter one, players leave the mountain base and start climbing Heaven’s Threshold itself, with the area opening up gradually through a community building event called Cloudtop Ascent, so the whole playerbase is chipping away at it together. WorthPlaying’s rundown of the update describes similar terrain, noting that by joining the community-wide “Cloudtop Ascent” building event, players will gradually unlock a vast mountain area featuring vertical exploration, dramatic drop-offs, and crumbling ancient observatories.

The narrative hook driving the chapter centres on an internal rift among the mountain’s ancient inventors. These craftspeople built the place together, but they’re now split over whether to keep their technology hidden from the world or use it to help people. That disagreement is what drives the chapter’s story content.

Two Iron-Construct World Bosses Return After a Launch-Day Bug

The mechanical, steampunk-flavoured combat that Hidden Mountain built its identity on is back and bigger, with players getting two new colossal world bosses to take on: the Inkpincer Scorpion and the Cloud-Seizing Serpent, both massive iron constructs built by the mountain’s old inventors. Notably, most of the playerbase hasn’t actually fought either creature yet. Both bosses were briefly fightable by some players right at Hidden Mountain’s original launch, seemingly due to a bug, before the devs pulled them, so for most of the playerbase this is the first real shot at either fight.

Inven Global’s coverage, translated from its original Korean report, corroborates the boss designs, though it uses localised naming for the region. Two powerful bosses stand out: the giant scorpion-like “Sumukgal” and the snake-shaped “Unryongsa,” both built with ancient technology. Players will need to spot the moment their defenses drop and strike.

Evershift Labyrinth Dungeon and the Mirkvale Campaign

Beyond the boss fights, the chapter adds a fresh dungeon built around environmental puzzle-solving. There’s also a new dungeon, Evershift Labyrinth, a multi-level underground maze packed with rotating gears and interlocking wooden joints, where players will be fighting off security constructs while also shifting the floor panels around to find their way out.

On the story front, a new questline sends Wanderers into hostile territory. On the story side, players get a new campaign, Mirkvale, set in a valley that’s been taken over by rogue blacksmiths. WorthPlaying’s preview frames the broader package the same way, describing new story campaigns, massive mechanical monsters, puzzle-filled dungeons, and festive seasonal events as the core pillars of the drop.

Gamescom 2026 Booth to Showcase the Drunken Master Style

The Hidden Mountain rollout is timed to carry momentum straight into Europe’s biggest gaming trade show. Taking the momentum straight into Cologne, Germany, Where Winds Meet will also be heading to Gamescom 2026 from August 26 to 30, with fans visiting the public area able to find the team at Hall 7.1, Booth B-050.

Visitors to the booth will get an early hands-on look at content beyond what’s shipping in Chapter 2. At the booth, visitors can play an exclusive hands-on demo featuring the dramatic finale of the Hidden Mountain storyline and try out the upcoming Drunken Master combat style. The stand is also going for spectacle over just gameplay stations. Beyond the game stations, players can explore the eerie “Ghostlight Market” style booth to obtain exclusive merchandise, and witness a unique “wuxia-punk” stage show featuring both human and specialized robot cosplayers blending futuristic tech with traditional martial arts aesthetics.

Inven Global’s report lines up with those Gamescom details, confirming that Where Winds Meet will participate in Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, this August, featuring a booth modeled after the in-game “Ghost Gate Market,” which will host various events, including martial arts performances featuring both humans and robots.

A Fast Follow-Up on a Free Expansion

Chapter 2 arrives less than a month after Hidden Mountain’s initial launch, underlining how aggressively Everstone Studio is pacing content for its cross-platform live-service RPG. Because Where Winds Meet is free-to-play across PC, console and mobile with no regional storefront restrictions reported so far, Australian and New Zealand players can jump into Heaven’s Threshold the moment it goes live on August 20 without waiting on a separate regional rollout.

With the Gamescom showcase now only days after the chapter’s launch, the next fortnight looks set to reveal how much further Everstone plans to push the Hidden Mountain arc: including the teased Drunken Master fighting style that hasn’t yet made it into the live game.
