Vitality beat Aurora 3-1 in the StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 grand final in Barcelona on 20 September, taking their first Counter-Strike 2 title in 140 days. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut posted a 1.51 rating across the four maps and left the event as MVP.

The final was the second series Vitality played that day. They had already gone through FURIA in the consolidation final, which put the roster through six maps in a single afternoon before the trophy was decided. Aurora had beaten them a day earlier in the upper bracket final and arrived unbeaten, with NAVI, NRG and Vitality already behind them.

That earlier loss turned out to be useful. “After yesterday, we knew what they would do,” Shahar “flameZ” Shushan told James “BanKs” Banks after the series, and the first map bore it out.

Anubis was Aurora’s pick and the one that went worst for them. Vitality won the opening three rounds on CT, and an eco win in round six was where the half tipped, with William “mezii” Merriman finishing it on a 2.24 rating for a 9-3 lead. The T side was a formality at 13-4, a sharp correction from the 0-8 T half Vitality had posted on the same map in the upper bracket final.

Inferno was the only map Aurora held. Vitality again led early, but Aurora took the half 7-5 behind Özgür “woxic” Eker and Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski and pushed out to 12-6. Vitality then won five rounds in a row, denying plant after plant, and a flameZ 1v2 brought overtime within reach at 11-12. Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın ended that with a three-kill round to level the series.

Mirage, Aurora’s second pick, went the way of Anubis. Aurora led 4-3 and then lost ten rounds in a row for a 13-4 scoreline, with ZywOo and flameZ out front and mezii again decisive. Wicadia was the only Aurora player to reach double-digit kills on the map.

Cache decided it. Aurora took the pistol and the anti-eco, but Vitality led 7-5 at the break, and a ZywOo 1v2 and a three-kill hold were the rounds that set the pace. Vitality won six of eight rounds after the swap to CT to close it 13-7, with flameZ controlling Mid through the second half.

The 140-Day Drought and mezii’s Return

Vitality’s previous title was BLAST Rivals on 3 May, which makes the gap to the Barcelona final exactly 140 days. That is a long silence for a roster that won seven trophies in a row across 2025 and two Majors, then opened 2026 with five straight titles and an Intel Grand Slam.

The decline started before the year’s first Major. Vitality went out in the quarterfinals at IEM Atlanta, then met the same end at the IEM Cologne Major, followed by an early exit in the BLAST Bounty Malta qualifiers and another quarterfinal finish at the 2026 Esports World Cup. A top-four run at BLAST Open Porto came with jL standing in for mezii, who was on leave for the birth of his child.

So the absence covers the tail of the drought rather than the whole of it, since Atlanta and Cologne came before Porto with the usual five available. What Barcelona says is that the problem was form rather than personnel, and that it was fixable without touching the roster.

ZywOo’s MVP Run and Aurora’s Missing Support

ZywOo averaged 1.50 across the tournament, 0.24 clear of Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato at 1.26 and his best mark since his IEM Krakow MVP earlier in the year. He topped the event leaderboards in damage per round (92.2), kills per round (0.89), deaths per round (0.57) and round swing (+6.13%), then put up 71-44 with a 95.3 ADR and 80.8% KAST in the final itself.

Aurora needed more than one player to beat Vitality twice in two days and got one. Wicadia was the only member of the side to finish the series above par at 1.15. Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo was still in the MVP conversation going into the best-of-five and ended it on 0.81, while Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş closed on 0.69.

The medal is ZywOo’s 33rd overall and his 26th at a big event, both all-time records. Two more big-event medals would take him to 28, which is double the tally Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has collected.

Pro League and the Singapore Major

Barcelona is Vitality’s sixth trophy of 2026 and their only loss across the event was the upper bracket final against the same opponent. Pro League is next, with the Singapore Major roughly two months out and the VRS points banked in Spain pushing the side back up the world ranking.
