VALORANT Laneways Pop-Up Comes to Melbourne on 10 and 11 October

Melbourne’s laneways are getting the VALORANT treatment. Riot is setting up VALORANT Laneways, a free two-day pop-up on the Promenade outside Crown, running 10 and 11 October 2026 as part of Melbourne International Games Week.

It’s open from 11AM to 9PM AEDT on both days. No ticket, no entry fee. You just turn up, grab a controller and play.

The whole thing is built around VALORANT on console, which recently launched in Australia and New Zealand. Riot is using the event to celebrate that launch and the community that has kept the game going for five years.

A Laneway Built Out of VALORANT

The pitch is simple. Take a Melbourne backstreet and run it through VALORANT’s art style. Riot says the space will be packed with industrial set pieces, graffiti-style sprays, posters, street textures and branded installations, all designed to feel like a slice of the city with the game layered over the top.

It sits inside the official public program for Games Week and is listed in the Games Week DLC lineup, so if you’re already in town for the week, it’s an easy add to the schedule.

There’s also a spray wall with a brick laneway backdrop for photos. If you’ve ever wanted a picture of yourself in front of a wall that looks like it belongs on a VALORANT map, this is your shot.

2v2 Skirmish on Console

The main draw is hands-on time with VALORANT on console. Riot is running a 2v2 Skirmish format built for quick, social matches, with the action shown on opposing screens inside the play zone.

That setup makes sense for a pop-up. Full 5v5 matches with a stranger squad would be a lot to ask of someone who wandered in off the Promenade. A 2v2 lets you jump in with a mate, play a few rounds and hand the controllers over.

It’s pitched at both existing console players and people who have never touched the port. If you’ve been curious whether VALORANT’s tight gunplay really works on a pad, this is a free way to find out before you commit to grinding ranked on your PS5 or Xbox.

Outside the play zone, there are VALORANT-themed skill games and interactive activities running across the weekend, with prizes up for grabs. Riot hasn’t listed what the prizes are.

Local Artists, Seating and Shade

Riot is framing the pop-up as a community hub first and a demo booth second. A set of merchant spaces will host local ANZ artists and makers, so you can browse and buy creative work from people in the scene.

There’s seating and shaded areas too, which matters more than it sounds for a full day outdoors in October. The idea is that you can hang around, watch other people play, meet other players and just chill between rounds.

Honestly, this is the part I like most. A lot of brand activations are a queue, a demo and a tote bag. Giving local creators space and giving people somewhere to sit turns it into something closer to a meetup, which suits a game whose community has done a lot of the heavy lifting over the years.

VCT Champions Watch Parties on 18 October

The celebration doesn’t stop after the Melbourne weekend. Riot has confirmed watch parties for the VCT Champions Grand Finals on 18 October at Fortress Sydney and Fortress Melbourne, kicking off from 4PM.

Champions is the biggest event on the VALORANT esports calendar, and this year it’s being held in Shanghai. The winning team takes home USD $1,000,000.

Australian fans have a local reason to tune in. Autumn of Global Esports is competing at Champions after Global Esports won the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Finals, a result Riot calls an underdog story. Watching that with a room full of fans at Fortress sounds a lot better than refreshing a stream on your phone.

Event Details at a Glance

Here’s everything you need in one place. VALORANT Laneways runs 10 and 11 October 2026, from 11AM to 9PM AEDT each day, on the Promenade outside Crown in Melbourne. Entry is free.

VALORANT itself is a free-to-play tactical shooter, available in Australia and New Zealand on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. If you’re in Melbourne for Games Week, this is an easy one to tick off.
