Trivia Murder Party 3 Kicks Off Steam, Epic Early Access on September 17

Jackbox Games will launch Trivia Murder Party 3 into paid Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store on September 17, marking the trivia-horror spin-off’s first appearance as a standalone game rather than a mode buried inside a Party Pack. The studio confirmed the date alongside a new gameplay trailer, with a full 1.0 release slated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2027.

Trivia Murder Party 3 will be available on Steam Early Access, as well as on the Epic Games Store, on Thursday, September 17, Shacknews reported. Its v1.0 release, planned for 2027, is currently set to add PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 to the PC-only Early Access build.

Camp Mass Acres brings online matchmaking to the franchise

The new game trades the series’ familiar living-room trivia gauntlet for a horror-tinged summer camp. According to the Steam listing, the franchise’s trivia-obsessed serial killer is heading to summer camp to put players through a sinister new set of minigames and murder, tasking them with answering questions correctly, engaging in luck- and skill-based activities, and sabotaging fellow campers to survive.

Crucially, for the first time in Jackbox history, Trivia Murder Party 3 will have online matchmaking to play with old friends and new, letting groups of up to eight players compete for their lives. Jackbox hasn’t dropped its trademark couch-party format, though: the developer has said online play isn’t every camper’s cup of tea, so local play modes with traditional Jackbox room codes will still be available, and the Steam page notes solo play is also supported.

First standalone game, first built on Unreal Engine 5

Trivia Murder Party 3 is a genuine departure for Jackbox’s engineering pipeline as well as its business model. It is the first standalone game Jackbox has produced in its twelve-year history and its first built on Unreal Engine 5, a platform switch that adds cinematic rendering capability but carries a hardware requirement that earlier Jackbox titles never imposed.

That ambition already cost the project a year. Jackbox originally targeted a 2025 Early Access window before pushing the release back. From the beginning, Trivia Murder Party 3 has been one of the studio’s most ambitious projects yet, being built in a new engine and marking its first title in recent years with online matchmaking. At the time, Jackbox’s PR team added that “great games are made by inspired developers, not exhausted ones,” explaining the decision to slip the launch into 2026.

Party Pack 12 lands October 15, same announcement window

Jackbox paired the Trivia Murder Party 3 news with a release date for its annual anthology, The Jackbox Party Pack 12, due October 15. Unlike the trivia spin-off, the anthology arrives feature-complete on day one, but with a trimmed platform list: it will launch on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Apple TV, iPad and the Mac App Store: a list that does not include PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Amazon Fire TV, unlike earlier entries. The long-running series has built serious scale in the years since: The Jackbox Party Pack has accumulated over 826 million games started since December 2022.

CEO Mike Bilder ties the launches to a bigger streaming push

Speaking to Variety about the timing of both games, Jackbox CEO Mike Bilder pointed to a wider industry shift toward casual, social titles as validation of the studio’s long-running approach. With streaming giants including Netflix and Amazon shifting their gaming strategies to focus on casual games: the kind Jackbox has been regularly making since its annual Party Pack first released in 2014: Bilder said, “We consider that somewhat validating of what we do.”

Jackbox VP of Business Development and International Andy Kniaz framed Trivia Murder Party 3’s standalone spin-off status as proof the studio’s internal franchises can carry weight beyond the Party Pack format. “It’s really promising to start to see our IP become valuable,” Kniaz told Variety, noting Jackbox’s deals to place its games on Netflix and Amazon platforms alongside established franchises.

What players get for their money in Early Access

Jackbox has been upfront that the Early Access build won’t be the finished article. Per the game’s own FAQ, Early Access is a paid release where the game has all of its core features and visually looks finished, but does not have 100% of the extra elements planned for a full 1.0 release, and there is a chance for unexpected bugs, it’s a way to let players buy and play early while still giving feedback. Buyers won’t be charged twice, either: players will not have to purchase the game again when it updates to a full 1.0 release.

The Steam listing also flags that pricing is locked in for the duration of the test period, noting that current pricing will hold steady through Early Access before any potential increase once the game exits it. Both Trivia Murder Party 3 and Party Pack 12 will be available through Steam and Epic storefronts globally, including in Australia and New Zealand, where the Jackbox back catalogue has built a loyal following among couch-party and Twitch streaming crowds thanks to its smartphone-as-controller setup.

For fans who’ve been tracking the project since its 2025 reveal, the September 17 date closes a long wait. Jackbox Games is putting a lot more into the next Trivia Murder Party than any single Party Pack minigame ever allowed, and Early Access will be the first real test of whether that bigger swing pays off before the wider console rollout in 2027.
