Tenebris Somnia Switch 2 Physical Release Includes Full Game on Cartridge

The Tenebris Somnia Switch 2 physical release will put the complete game on its cartridge rather than using a Game-Key Card, with pre-orders open as of 29 August 2026 through physical publisher Lost in Cult. The release is also Lost in Cult’s first physical Nintendo Switch 2 game.
Both standard and limited physical editions are planned. The digital version of the retro survival horror game remains scheduled for 16 October, while a separate release date for the boxed copies has not yet been announced.
Switch 2 Copy Puts the Full Game on Cartridge
Lost in Cult is publishing Tenebris Somnia as a full cartridge release on Switch 2. The physical version is intended to contain all of the game’s content and its latest patches on the cartridge itself, with archivist group DoesItPlay? involved in testing the release.
That means the Switch 2 edition is not one of Nintendo’s Game-Key Cards, which use a physical card to provide access while requiring the game data to be downloaded separately. Tenebris Somnia instead keeps the playable game data on the cartridge.
A standard physical edition is available alongside the collector-focused version. The standard release will also include exclusive pre-order extras, although those bonus items have not been detailed.
Tenebris Somnia Launches Digitally on October 16
Tenebris Somnia is scheduled to launch digitally on 16 October 2026 for Windows PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. PC players will be able to get the game through Steam and GOG, and a free demo is already available on both storefronts.
At launch, the game will support English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese. Physical editions are being handled by Lost in Cult, but the boxed release currently has no confirmed shipping or launch date.
Retro Survival Horror Switches to Live Action
Tenebris Somnia combines 2D survival horror inspired by games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil with live-action sequences filmed using real actors and practical effects. Its playable sections use pixel art influenced by the 8-bit and 16-bit eras before key story moments abruptly shift into filmed scenes created by an Argentine production crew.
The story follows Julia, a young Argentine woman caught in increasingly disturbing nightmares involving monsters and her ex-boyfriend. Players explore unsettling locations, solve puzzles, manage consumable resources and decide when to fight or avoid hostile creatures while uncovering what is happening to her.
The contrast between those formats is central to the game’s presentation. Its release date trailer moves between detailed pixel-art environments and live-action horror imagery, including practical creature effects that would be impossible to reproduce with the same visual language during its retro gameplay sections.
The listed content descriptors include Blood and Gore and Intense Violence, matching the more graphic approach taken by its filmed sequences.
Borghi and Airdorf Bring Film and Retro Horror Experience
Tenebris Somnia is co-created by Andrés Borghi and Tobías Rusjan in association with Saibot Studios, with New Blood Interactive publishing the game. Borghi also worked on the visual effects for Argentine horror film When Evil Lurks and previously collaborated with Saibot on the 2021 fighting game The Black Heart.
Mason Smith, better known as Airdorf, serves as executive producer after creating the retro horror series Faith: The Unholy Trinity. New Blood Interactive, which also published Faith, brought Airdorf and Borghi together after discovering that each creator was already familiar with and admired the other’s horror work.
The project has circulated through indie showcases for several years. It won Best Game at EVA 2023 and received a win at Unreal Argentina 2024, followed by selections for the Latin American Games Showcase in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Its 2026 showcase run also included BitSummit Punch Mixtape, The Mix Summer Game Showcase, Day of the Devs and Ñ3.
Limited Switch 2 Edition Is Capped at 1,500 Copies
The more elaborate Switch 2 Limited EDITIONS release is restricted to 1,500 copies. In addition to the game, it includes a collection of printed material and alternative packaging:
- A custom mailer box with original illustrations
- An essay and developer interview booklet
- An exclusive variant cover
- Original outer slipcase artwork
- A colour-themed inner slipcase carrying the individual release number
- A fold-out artwork poster
- Four developer-selected art cards with captions
- An individually numbered developer authenticity card
Pre-orders for both physical options are available directly through Lost in Cult. The digital game arrives on 16 October, while buyers of either boxed edition are still waiting for a confirmed physical release date.
