Technoblade Never Dies Documentary Funded by Riot Games and Hypixel Studios

Technoblade Never Dies, a feature-length documentary about the late Minecraft creator Technoblade, has entered production with financing from Riot Games and Hypixel Studios. The film is being made with the full cooperation of Technoblade’s family and is produced by Candle Media’s Candle True Stories.
There is no release date or distribution deal in place. Variety first reported the project on 3 September, with plans calling for a major festival premiere before a theatrical run and broader distribution.
Riot Games And Hypixel Studios Are Financing The Documentary
Riot Games and Hypixel Studios are providing financing for Technoblade Never Dies, while Candle True Stories is handling production. Both funders plan to donate their profits from the film to charity.

That distinction matters to how the project is structured. Riot and Hypixel Studios are financial backers rather than the documentary’s production company, with Candle True Stories describing the project as an independent feature documentary intended to bring Technoblade’s story and community to audiences around the world.
Hypixel Studios was founded by the team behind Hypixel, the Minecraft server, giving the project another connection to the wider Minecraft ecosystem. Documentary filmmaker Steven Lake is directing, with Max Heckman, Robert Ford and Lake serving as producers. James Goldston is executive producer for Candle True Stories.
What The Technoblade Never Dies Documentary Will Cover
The documentary will combine hundreds of hours of Technoblade’s own recorded content with access to his family and friends and stories from members of the community he built online. Its central story follows how a shy and anonymous California teenager developed the Technoblade persona and became one of Minecraft’s most recognisable creators.
Technoblade built his audience through Minecraft videos, livestreams, competitive gameplay and appearances on the Dream SMP. He began making videos as a teenager with the goal of reaching 10 million YouTube subscribers, a milestone he achieved in late 2021.
Lake has described the film as an exploration of the positive role the internet and video games can play in building human connections. Rather than limiting the documentary to a career retrospective, the production is also examining what happened to that community after Technoblade’s death.
Technoblade’s Legacy Continued After His Death
Technoblade revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2021 and continued communicating with viewers while undergoing treatment. He died from sarcoma in June 2022 at the age of 23.
His father later delivered Technoblade’s final message to fans in the video “so long nerds”, revealing that his son’s first name was Alex. The family has otherwise kept its identity private, while his father Marshall became known to the community as Mr. Technodad.
The audience around Technoblade has continued to grow. His YouTube channel passed 20 million subscribers in 2025 and now sits at nearly 23 million, well beyond the 10 million target he had originally set for himself.
His crowned-pig Minecraft avatar also received a tribute in 2025’s A Minecraft Movie, extending his presence beyond YouTube and the Minecraft communities where he originally built his following.

The Film Will Explore Technoblade’s Community And Family
One of the documentary’s major threads is the relationship that developed between Technoblade’s audience and his family after his death, particularly through Mr. Technodad’s continued interaction with fans.
The scale of that response was substantial. More than 400,000 messages were collected through a virtual Minecraft memorial following Technoblade’s death, then transformed into 22 books of condolences for his family.
Technoblade Never Dies plans to incorporate stories from fans around the world whose lives were affected by the creator, examining how an online fandom became a source of friendship, connection and collective grief. That makes the 400,000-message memorial more than an archival detail, as it provides the film with a physical record of the community relationship its filmmakers intend to document.
Technoblade Never Dies Has No Release Date Yet
Production on Technoblade Never Dies has only just begun, and no release date has been announced. A distributor has also yet to be secured.
The current plan is to premiere the documentary at a major film festival, followed by a theatrical release and then wider distribution. Which festival will host the premiere and who will ultimately distribute the film remain the next major details still to be announced.
