SunPayus Leaves G2 After 14 Months as FUT Move Reportedly Nears

Álvaro “SunPayus” García has left G2 after 14 months, with the Counter-Strike 2 organisation confirming the Spanish AWPer’s departure on 29 September after he spent the last three months on the bench. His exit makes official what the benching in June had already signalled: G2 have moved on to Artem “r1nkle” Moroz as their AWPer.

G2 thanked the 27-year-old in a post on X for his leadership and for “the sick shots, and the banger memories”, but the farewell said nothing about his next team. SunPayus leaves as a free agent, and HLTV has reported that FUT are closing in on him.
SunPayus’s Time at G2 and the BLAST Open London 2025 Win
SunPayus joined G2 in July 2025 with one of the hardest briefs in Counter-Strike: replacing Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, who had just transferred to Falcons. The start could hardly have gone better. Around a month after his arrival, G2 won BLAST Open London 2025, and that result turned out to be the only international title of his spell with the team.
Consistency never followed. G2 repeatedly came up short around the playoff stage, either missing the playoffs altogether or going out in their opening playoff match.
Why G2 Benched SunPayus for r1nkle
In June 2026, G2 moved SunPayus to the bench and brought r1nkle into the starting lineup with the AWP. The decision came even though SunPayus’s numbers compared well with most AWPers outside the elite tier of m0NESY and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, and even though much of the criticism he drew from parts of the community was not backed up by his output.
G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha explained the change soon after the benching. He said SunPayus “can still bring the right things to the right team”, but that G2 needed “something more aggressive because we have also other players who are a bit more on the passive side.”
That explanation puts the problem in G2’s roster balance rather than in SunPayus’s level, and it is a fair one: a steady AWPer does little to fix a lineup where too many players already default to passive play. It also means the question for his next team is fit, not form.
FUT Reportedly Closing In on SunPayus
FUT are the team most closely linked with SunPayus. HLTV reported that FUT were closing in on the Spaniard as a replacement for their AWPer Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov, which would put him straight back into a starting AWP role.
His free-agent status removes one obstacle, since FUT no longer need to negotiate with G2 to sign him. But neither FUT nor SunPayus has confirmed the move, and FUT have not announced any change to their AWP position.
