Álvaro “SunPayus” García has joined FUT as their new AWPer, two days after G2 released the Spaniard following three months on the bench. He takes the place of Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov, who moves to the bench and ends a long run as the Esports World Cup finalists’ AWPer.

FUT welcomed the 27-year-old in a post on X on 1 October, confirming a move HLTV first reported on 16 September. G2 had announced his departure on 29 September, letting him join FUT as a free agent.

FUT’s Updated Counter-Strike 2 Roster

SunPayus slots into an otherwise unchanged starting four, with András “coolio” Fercsák staying on as coach. Both cmtry and Laurențiu “lauNX” Țârlea now sit on the bench.

Why cmtry Lost the AWP Role

Six months ago, cmtry was the standout of FUT’s lineup. He played a key part in their PGL Bucharest win in April 2026 and picked up the first MVP award of his career there. Across 2026, though, his form has been uneven, and he has averaged a 1.00 rating on LAN.

The Ukrainian came up through NAVI’s academy, playing for NAVI Youth and then NAVI Junior before the core of that roster was sold to the Turkish organisation in August 2025. Drin “makazze” Shaqiri was the only player who didn’t make the move, as NAVI promoted him to their main team instead.

Benching an MVP from a title run only six months later is a hard call, but a 1.00 LAN rating gave FUT little margin at the position. SunPayus, whose numbers held up well against most AWPers outside the elite tier during his G2 spell, is the kind of steady return that figure was missing.

From G2’s Bench to FUT’s Starting Five

SunPayus hasn’t played a competitive match since the Cologne Major. G2 benched him during the summer break, clearing the way for Artem “r1nkle” Moroz to arrive from Ninjas in Pyjamas and take the AWP.

He also changes the profile of a lineup that averaged 20.3 years of age before the swap. At 27, SunPayus brings 14 months as the starting AWPer for G2, a spell that included a BLAST Open London 2025 title and the leadership G2 credited him with in their farewell.

SunPayus’s FUT Debut at PGL Masters Bucharest

FUT have no tournaments scheduled until PGL Masters Bucharest, which starts on 24 October. That gives SunPayus 23 days to settle in with his new teammates before his first event, back in the city where cmtry led FUT to their title in April.
