Riot Launches 2026 World Star Challengers Invitational for Tier 2 LoL

Riot Games is building a new global stage for League of Legends, and it’s aimed squarely at the players about to break through.

The inaugural 2026 World Star Challengers Invitational was announced this week, and it’ll bring 16 Tier 2 teams together from every LoL Esports region. Run as a collaboration between TJ Sports and Riot, it pulls squads from EMEA, China, Korea, APAC and the Americas onto one stage for the first time.

The tournament runs from 20 September to 2 October, with the qualifying teams meeting in the Final on the last day to crown a champion. That’s a tight two-week window, which should keep the whole thing sharp.

The point of it is bigger than one trophy. Tier 2 is where the next generation comes from, and Riot is framing WSCI as a way to speed up player development, tie the regional scenes closer together, and give fans an early look at the names who could be Worlds contenders in a couple of years. If you like spotting talent before it blows up, this is the tournament to watch.

Tier 2 leagues often fly under the radar, so putting them on a global stage is a smart move. It gives up-and-coming players a spotlight and gives fans a reason to care before these names hit the big leagues.

WSCI 2026 kicks off 20 September. Keep an eye on it.
