Overwatch Reveals Doctrine, a Vampire-Inspired Support Hero for Season 5

Doctrine is Overwatch’s Hero 54, a vampire-inspired Support built around an Infuse system that can power up several parts of his kit. Blizzard unveiled the new hero at BlizzCon 2026 on 12 September, with a limited Hero Trial running through 14 September before Doctrine officially joins Overwatch Season 5 on 6 October 2026.
Blizzard has described Doctrine as having a high mechanical floor, with much of that complexity coming from where players spend his two Infuse charges. He can use them to strengthen his Eternal Scepter, turn his movement ability into free flight, or make his healing drones affect himself as well as an ally. His Ultimate, Deliverance, works separately from Infuse, reducing enemy maximum health while giving allies overhealth.
Infuse Makes Doctrine Choose Where His Power Goes
Doctrine introduces Infuse, a mechanic that adds an enhanced effect to his next compatible weapon or ability use, with two charges displayed near the crosshair. That gives him a repeatable choice between offence, escape and extra sustain rather than tying the mechanic to one fixed ability.
Eternal Scepter normally uses the same mid-range fire to heal teammates or damage enemies. Spending Infuse on the weapon produces a larger piercing blast. Shrouded Momentum is a horizontal rush with damage reduction, but its Infused version gives Doctrine free flight instead. Invigorating Drones normally attach to an ally to provide healing and increased attack speed, while Infusing the ability also deploys drones to Doctrine himself.
The Survivor subrole passive fits that mobility loop. Using movement abilities starts Doctrine’s passive health regeneration, so Shrouded Momentum can help him reposition and begin recovering at the same time.

All Overwatch Doctrine Abilities and Infuse Effects
| Ability | Normal Effect | Infused Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Eternal Scepter | Mid-range weapon that heals allies and damages enemies. | Fires a larger piercing blast. |
| Infuse | Adds a powerful effect to Doctrine’s next compatible ability or weapon use. Doctrine has two charges. | Not applicable. |
| Shrouded Momentum | Rushes horizontally with damage reduction. | Grants free flight. |
| Invigorating Drones | Deploys drones to an ally, granting attack speed and healing. | Also deploys drones to Doctrine. |
| Deliverance | Ultimate that launches a swarm of drones, reducing enemy maximum health and granting allies overhealth. | Deliverance is not Infused. |
Deliverance is the outlier because it does not ask Doctrine to spend an Infuse charge. Reducing enemy maximum health while adding overhealth to allies lets the Ultimate pressure both sides of a fight at once, while the rest of his kit asks the player to decide which individual tool deserves the next boost.
Doctrine Perks Can Trade Safety for More Healing
Doctrine’s perk choices all improve his healing or sustain, but the Major Perks create the clearest trade-off. Transfusion keeps his normal health pool and reduces Infuse’s cooldown as Doctrine deals damage and healing. Cost of Life instead removes 25 maximum health, dropping him to 225, in exchange for a 20% increase to Eternal Scepter healing.
| Perk | Tier | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Saving Grace | Minor, Level 2 | Invigorating Drones heal for 40 health when applied. |
| Sanguine Siphon | Minor, Level 2 | Doctrine heals for 50% of the damage dealt with an Infused Eternal Scepter. |
| Transfusion | Major, Level 3 | Damage and healing dealt reduce Infuse’s cooldown. |
| Cost of Life | Major, Level 3 | Sacrifices 25 maximum health and increases Eternal Scepter healing by 20%. |
The Minor Perks split along a similar line. Saving Grace strengthens the immediate healing from Invigorating Drones, while Sanguine Siphon rewards aggressive use of an Infused Eternal Scepter by returning half of the damage dealt as healing to Doctrine. Taken together, the perk system can push him towards safer ally support or a more offensive rhythm that uses damage to keep himself going.

He's another DPS/Healer hybrid
He's 100% hitscan with no falloff
The ult can bounce off stuff, heals you, applies, increases attack speed, and drains enemy HP
His right click is burst heal and burst damage, think a hitscan Freja alt fire pic.twitter.com/QWTXSlACzP
Doctrine Arrives With Overwatch Season 5
Doctrine is also tied directly into Overwatch’s current story. He is an ally of Doomfist in the Reign of Talon storyline, and Blizzard describes his vampire theme through lifeforce manipulation, his sceptre, infusions and bat-like drones.
Season 5 will close the Reign of Talon storyline, ending Overwatch’s first year-long story arc, and add Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a new Escort map set at the remote Icelandic prison where Doomfist breaks Doctrine free. Players who want to try Hero 54 before the full season launch have until 14 September to use him in the limited Hero Trial. Doctrine then becomes part of the regular roster when Overwatch Season 5 launches on 6 October 2026.
