Minecraft Gets Villager News Add-On That Makes Villagers Talk Like the Classic Animation

Element Animation’s Villager News has made the jump from YouTube animation into Minecraft itself. The new Villager News 1.0 Add-On, created with Oreville Studios for Minecraft Bedrock, gives ordinary villagers fully voiced dialogue and lets them react to what players, mobs and blocks are doing around them.
For longtime Minecraft fans, that is the part that makes this release special. Element Animation built much of its identity around giving Minecraft’s normally grunting villagers a deadpan speaking voice, and the same idea that powered Villager News in 2013 can now run inside a player’s own world.
Villagers Now Have More Than 2,000 Voiced Reactions
Oreville Studios says the add-on includes more than 2,000 voiced reactions. Villagers can comment on mobs, blocks and player actions, while expressive animations and lip sync make conversations look closer to the animated series rather than simply replacing the usual “hrmm” noises with extra sound files.

The add-on also includes player reputation and gossip systems, while special characters bring unique trades. It is compatible with Oreville’s Actions & Stuff and is designed to work across Minecraft Bedrock worlds.
Element Animation announced the collaboration with Oreville Studios, while Oreville described it as the official Villager News add-on. In other words, this is a direct Element Animation collaboration rather than an unofficial recreation of the series.

It Brings a 2013 Minecraft YouTube Classic Full Circle
There is a much older joke behind all of this. In a 2021 Minecraft interview, Element Animation co-creator Dan Lloyd explained that the original Villager News came from an animator messing around with villagers as vehicles. The team wrote an episode around villagers forming a helicopter, and Lloyd ended up voicing the whole thing.
That voice was never supposed to become permanent. Lloyd said he had used his “silly and monotone” villager voice as a placeholder while the team looked for another actor. They never found one before release, so the placeholder stayed. The first Villager News then reached one million views in its first week, which was Element Animation’s biggest launch at the time.
The joke even crossed into Minecraft itself in 2014. During that year’s April Fools event, Minecraft replaced many game sounds with audio from The Element Animation Villager Sounds Resource Pack, or T.E.A.V.S.R.P., including the same talking-villager style associated with the animations. For players who remember that prank, the new add-on has a familiar premise, but this time the voices are part of a full Bedrock add-on rather than a temporary sound swap.

The Villager News Add-On Is Available on Minecraft Marketplace
The difference now is that the talking villagers are not a one-day prank or a separate animation. The add-on turns them into a persistent part of a Bedrock world, with dialogue that responds to what is actually happening around the player.
The Villager News 1.0 Add-On costs 1,170 Minecoins, which is approximately US$8.00, NZ$13.70, or €6.87 (actual prices may vary slightly depending on region, platform and the Minecoin bundle purchased). More than a decade after Villager News first made Minecraft villagers talk, players can finally bring that version of them into their own worlds.
