Marvel Rivals Servers Down 2 Hours From 9AM UTC Aug. 7 for Season 9.5, The Hood

Marvel Rivals will go offline for roughly two hours starting at 9:00 AM UTC on August 7 as NetEase Games rolls out Season 9.5, the free-to-play hero shooter’s mid-season update headlined by the new Vanguard character The Hood. Servers begin the maintenance window on August 7th, 2026, at 09:00:00 UTC, with estimated maintenance lasting 2 hours. The blackout hits every platform simultaneously, so PC, PlayStation and Xbox players are all locked out at once.

When Do Marvel Rivals Servers Go Down on August 7?

NetEase confirmed the schedule directly through Marvel Rivals’ official X account, warning fans that maintenance will begin on August 7th, 9 AM UTC, and is expected to take approximately 2 hours, with servers offline and the game inaccessible during that period. The studio added that return times aren’t guaranteed to the minute, noting that server return times may vary based on progress, with updates to be posted on X once servers are back up.

For Kiwi and Australian players, that translates to a 9:00 PM NZST start on Thursday evening, with servers expected back around 11:00 PM NZST. Australian players on AEST will see the outage run from roughly 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM local time on the same evening, based on the standard two-hour window NetEase has flagged.

The two-hour estimate lines up with how NetEase has handled previous seasonal launches. Independent tracking site esportnow.gg corroborated the same figures ahead of launch, noting that the update will require some server downtime, estimated to take about 2 hours, beginning at 9:00 UTC and likely lasting until 11:00 UTC.

The Hood Joins the Roster as Marvel Rivals’ Newest Vanguard

The headline addition of Season 9.5 is Parker Robbins, better known as The Hood, who slots into the game’s tank-equivalent Vanguard class. According to NetEase’s official patch notes, the update’s tagline promises that “Desire is the prologue to power, and the precipice of corruption. When desire dons the mantle of power, darkness silently creeps.”

Coverage from GosuGamers, drawing on NetEase’s Dev Vision Vol. 20 broadcast, detailed how the character switches between forms as his resource meter fills. As the Hood’s Demonic Energy level rises, his inner demon comes through, entering a half-demon state where his arms become demonic rifles, before his ultimate ability sees him enter a Full Demon State, transforming into a fully-realised sentry-like Gun Demon. His defensive kit also lets him throw dark magic orbs that warp into barriers, weakening incoming enemy fire, giving him the shield-granting utility expected of a frontline tank rather than a pure damage dealer.

The character arrives with a notable piece of casting: WWE Tag Team Champion Damian Priest, whose real name is Luis Martínez, provides the voice work. As esports.gg reported, Damian Priest voices The Hood in Marvel Rivals, with the professional WWE wrestler revealing this in a social media post, writing “Honored to voice The Hood in Marvel Rivals,” and adding that the new hero becomes playable on Aug. 7. The Hood launches alongside his own cosmetic, Sinful Blackout, sold as part of a bundle with new Iron Fist and Moon Knight skins.

Storage Cuts, Balance Tweaks and a Weekly Cosmetic Drip-Feed

Beyond the new hero, Season 9.5 carries a technical fix aimed at players running low on disk space. NetEase’s own patch notes list an optimized texture resource compression strategy across all platforms, reducing hard drive footprint after installation, with PC expected to decrease by roughly 30%, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 by around 20%, and PlayStation 4 by about 7%.

The mid-season split also brings a fresh wave of hero adjustments. Marvel Rivals’ own news page teased that stepping into Season 9.5 sees the tactical landscape shift again, with Wolverine’s Rage gaining aggressive momentum, Moon Knight bouncing his sharp pointy things with more style, and Peni Parker’s control getting a little less sticky. NetEase has paired the changes with a new store format, telling players that alongside new Hood, Iron Fist and Moon Knight lore drops, the Store introduces a new PYO format where players can check which specific costumes and Emote Emojis they want to include, with price adjusting automatically based on selection.

A steady stream of cosmetics is scheduled to follow the initial launch. Fan-run tracker Marvel Rivals News listed the coming weeks’ drops, including Scarlet Witch, Magik, and Storm Swimsuit Special skins on August 14th, Cyclops, Phoenix and Daredevil Hellfire Gala and Attorney at Law skins on August 21st, and an X-Men ’97 Season 2 collaboration costume alongside an Ultron Street Style skin on September 4th. The returning Krakoan Reels fishing minigame is also set for a second volume on August 14, giving players more limited-time rewards to chase after the initial patch settles in.

What to Do While Marvel Rivals Is Offline

There’s no workaround for the downtime itself, the game client will simply refuse to log in until NetEase flips servers back on. Fans hoping for a precise all-clear time should keep an eye on Marvel Rivals’ official X account, which the developer has used consistently to post both the maintenance warning and the eventual “servers are back” confirmation.

Given the studio’s own caveat that timing can shift depending on how smoothly the rollout goes, players queuing up for a Friday-night session in NZ or Australia should build in a buffer past the stated two-hour window before expecting a clean login. Once servers return, the new install-size reductions mean the update itself should leave more breathing room on hard drives than the download size might initially suggest.
