IGN has laid off staff across multiple departments, long-time hosts Seth Macy and Brian Altano are among those affected. The full scale of the cuts is still unclear, although the IGN Creators Guild said four union members and “many more people across the organization” lost their jobs.

Macy confirmed his departure in a post on X on 15 September, writing simply, “I just got laid off.” He worked as a senior commerce editor at IGN and regularly appeared on the Nintendo Voice Chat podcast.

Seth Macy, Brian Altano and Bo Moore Among Those Affected

Altano has been with IGN since 2009 and became one of the site’s most recognisable on-screen personalities. He has also been a long-time host of IGN’s PlayStation podcast, Beyond.

Senior manager of tech coverage Bo Moore separately confirmed on Bluesky that he had been affected. His departure came on the same day his team published seven stories covering the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame. Moore said only one carried his byline, but he had edited all seven and worked late the previous week and early that morning to prepare the coverage.

The timing makes Moore’s case particularly striking. IGN was still relying on his editorial work for one of its biggest recent technology coverage days when his role was cut.

IGN Creators Guild Says Four Union Members Were Laid Off

The IGN Creators Guild said it had not been warned in advance about the latest cuts. Its statement said, “We were blindsided by the layoff of four union members and many more people across the organization who contributed years of their careers to making IGN an unparalleled voice in games and entertainment.”

The Guild said producers, editors, hosts and other roles were affected both inside and outside the union. It also argued that repeated layoffs were removing core parts of IGN’s operation while leaving remaining employees with larger workloads and continued uncertainty about their own jobs.

Kotaku reported that the layoffs reached multiple departments, but the total number of people affected has not been established. IGN had not responded to Kotaku’s request for comment at the time of its report.

Remote Work and Relocation Are Part of the Layoff Questions

Remote working arrangements have also emerged as a point of concern. Kotaku reported that remote status and whether employees were willing to relocate may have influenced some of the decisions.

Aftermath reported that IGN Creators Guild leadership believed all of the employees affected in this round were remote workers. One union employee was reportedly given a choice between moving to Los Angeles or being laid off, with that person’s final status pending a decision in November.

The Guild also raised concerns that the cuts could be connected to a broader return to office push, particularly with a new remote work policy due to begin in October. The reporting does not establish that remote status was the sole or formal reason for the layoffs, however, and IGN has not publicly provided a full explanation for how the affected roles were selected.

The cuts follow previous layoffs at IGN earlier in 2026, including employees let go shortly after IGN Live. Owner Ziff Davis has also overseen job cuts across other gaming publications it acquired through the Gamer Network deal in 2024, including Eurogamer, GamesIndustry and Rock Paper Shotgun.

For now, the biggest unanswered questions are how many people have ultimately lost their jobs and whether IGN or Ziff Davis will provide a fuller explanation for the latest round of cuts.
