Hytale Chapter 1 arrives in Early Access on 12 October 2026, bringing the sandbox game’s first handcrafted dungeon, a multi-phase boss fight, and a goblin faction that the whole chapter is built around. Hypixel Studios confirmed the date on 24 September with a short teaser, nine months after Hytale entered Early Access in January.

Chapter 1 is a PC release, and Hypixel hasn’t announced a launch time yet. Alongside the dungeon, it adds the Goblin Breach world event, a Rune Abilities system for combat, and a kit of goblin gadgets that includes rocket boots and a hookshot. Game director Simon Collins-Laflamme has also put up $15,000 for the first streamer to beat the new boss under strict conditions.

The Goblin Dungeon and Its Multi-Phase Boss

The dungeon ends in a multi-stage fight against a towering goblin mech, the boss Collins-Laflamme calls the Gobliterator. It runs on the Encounter Manager, a system that coordinates boss phases, wave spawns, and arena changes.

In its July First Look post, Hypixel explained that encounters are built as content rather than engine code, so modders can use the same system to make their own boss fights.

The chapter opens at the Forgotten Temple, which Hypixel plans to keep as the hub for later Early Access chapters. Goblins come in a range of shapes and jobs, and not all of them want a fight: one runs a shop. These are the combat goblins reworked for Chapter 1:

GoblinRole in Combat
ScrapperLight melee fighter that swarms its targets
MinerHeavy melee fighter with a powerful leap attack
GuardianHeavily armoured defender with a shield
LobberRanged attacker with an explosive arsenal
BurnerRanged attacker armed with a flamethrower
FeastmasterHuge elite that charges and calls in reinforcements

How the Goblin Breach World Event Works

Once you set the chapter in motion at the Forgotten Temple, the Goblin Breach can start appearing in your world as a temporary portal, which you can find by looking around or checking the world map. Stepping through drops you into an unstable fragment of Orbis: goblin-held biomes with a growing Void presence. The fragment regenerates on every visit and sometimes carries content you haven’t seen on earlier trips.

The Void eventually pushes you back out, so each visit is a race to explore and grab loot before that happens. Hypixel is starting with a small set of activities inside: predators you can track and trap, Void assassins that hunt you down, treasure chests that spawn enemy waves when you go for the loot, and puzzles that lock off areas. Recent pre-release builds also made Void creatures hostile to goblins, and most goblins now flee from them unless enough allies are nearby, which puts a third side into fights inside the Breach.

Rune Abilities, Goblin Gadgets, and Other Chapter 1 Additions

The Rune Abilities system is the chapter’s biggest combat change. Ability runes set a base skill, modifier runes change how it behaves, and both slot into a Runebinder’s Effigy. Hypixel’s July example was a Fireball that one modifier splits into several projectiles and another makes apply a shock debuff. Elements also react with each other and the world, such as soaking a target with water before shocking it, or throwing a fireball into a teammate’s tornado to set it alight.

Hypixel said in July that Chapter 1 would ship with roughly six ability runes and a similar number of modifiers. The pre-release build currently has five:

  • Enrage: raises the damage you deal and the damage you take
  • Fireball: launches a fireball that explodes on impact
  • Imbue Poison: makes weapon hits apply a stacking poison debuff
  • Ground Slam: raises an earthen spike that launches enemies upward
  • Wind Strike: makes your next three attacks fire piercing arcs of wind

Goblins are tinkerers, and their inventions double as the chapter’s traversal kit:

  • Scrap Drill: a mining tool that breaks several blocks at once
  • Spyglass: zooms in on distant areas
  • Scrap Glider: lets you dive and climb by pressing and releasing sprint
  • Rocket Boots: add a double jump
  • Hookshot: pulls you across the world using Hook Anchors

The rest of the chapter is spread across smaller systems:

  • Basic boats
  • Carryable objects such as chests and explosive barrels, which can also be thrown at enemies
  • Visual transparency, allowing stained glass and window blocks
  • Goblin cosmetics unlocked by completing the chapter, plus more detailed hand and eyelash options in the Avatar Creator
  • A chapter screen that tracks your progress, and redesigned item tooltips

Can You Play Chapter 1 Before Launch?

Partly, if you don’t mind testing unfinished content. The Update 7 pre-release, live since 3 September, carries the first of several waves of Chapter 1 content, and most of it is reached through Creative Mode for now. To opt in, open the Hytale launcher, go to Settings, and switch on Pre-Release.

Hypixel warns that the Rune Ability system in particular will change a lot before release, so the five runes above are a snapshot rather than the final set. Tuning is already under way: explosive barrels are now thrown with left click, and the Snapjaw Trap stuns its victims for two seconds instead of holding them indefinitely.

Chapter 1, Minigames, and Hypixel’s July Timeline

When Hypixel previewed Chapter 1 on 16 July, it gave a window of two to three months. The 12 October date lands 88 days after that post, inside the estimate. The same post said Spectator Mode, Hardcore Mode, and the Mod Browser were about three weeks away, and they arrived with Update 6 on 27 August, six weeks later. The chapter date has held up better than July’s shorter promise did, though with the rune system still in flux, what lands on 12 October may not match July’s description in every detail.

Not everything from the July post belongs to the chapter. Hypixel showed 14 party minigames, each lasting 60 to 120 seconds, alongside Chapter 1 but said they run on their own timeline. The crafting rework, which cuts down on crafting benches in favour of in-world activities like wood chopping and metalworking, is planned for Chapter 2. Hypixel is also aiming to introduce a companion system with Chapter 2, letting you invite NPCs to your homestead to help with busywork.

Simon Collins-Laflamme’s $15,000 Gobliterator Challenge

Collins-Laflamme, who founded Hypixel, raised the stakes on the new boss the same day the date went out. In a post on X, he offered $15,000 to the first streamer who kills the Gobliterator under these conditions:

  • The run is solo, on hard mode, in a hardcore world.
  • No armour, no potions, and no glitches.
  • Iron weapons available in Exploration Mode are allowed.
  • It must be a full legit run, with no Creative Mode shortcut into the dungeon.
  • The attempt has to be streamed, with a VOD available to check.

Attempts are unlimited as long as each one is legitimate. Asked about retries, Collins-Laflamme replied “just start over and over”. Because the run has to be legit from the start and happens in a hardcore world, a failed attempt likely means replaying the whole path back to the dungeon. That explains how he framed the race: whether to “risk time in practice, or just go straight for the kill”.

The rules aren’t settled yet. When one player asked whether food counts as a potion, Collins-Laflamme said he would post a full rundown of the rules before launch.
