FUT Vlad One-Match Ban Keeps Coach Out of Team Liquid Match

FUT Esports head coach Berke “Vlad” Kantürk received a one-match ban that ruled him out of the team’s VCT 2026 EMEA Stage 2 playoff match against Team Liquid on 20 August. FUT Esports announced the suspension only hours before the series, but did not disclose why its VALORANT coach had been penalised.

Neither Riot Games nor VCT EMEA had publicly explained the reason for the punishment at the time of the announcement. Reports have connected the timing to offensive messages allegedly sent from an account associated with Vlad during a ranked match earlier in August, although no official statement has established that those messages caused the ban.

FUT Announced Vlad’s Suspension Hours Before the Match

FUT’s statement was brief, saying Vlad would be unable to lead the team against Team Liquid because of a one-match penalty. The organisation did not identify who issued the punishment, explain the underlying offence, or provide further disciplinary details.

Because the penalty covers only one match, Vlad was expected to be available again after the Team Liquid series. A defeat against Liquid would also not immediately eliminate FUT from VCT EMEA Stage 2, leaving the coach able to return for the team’s next match if its playoff run continued.

FUT’s announcement also did not name an official replacement for the series. VLR reported that assistant coach Tyler “Bambino” Jay was the most likely person to lead the team in Vlad’s absence, while other reporting published before the match similarly pointed to FUT’s assistant coaching staff rather than a newly appointed stand-in.

Why Vlad Was Banned Has Not Been Confirmed

The unanswered part of the suspension is its cause. On 2 August, screenshots circulated on social media that allegedly showed the account “FUT Vlad#ftw” posting offensive messages during a ranked game, including comments concerning Kurds and Kurdistan. Bo3.gg reported that users attempted to link the account to Vlad through its match history and games played alongside FUT player Doğukan “yetujey” Balaban.

An X post from araise was among those circulating the screenshots and criticism of the coach. The posts appeared more than two weeks before FUT announced the one-match suspension on 20 August.

That timing has prompted speculation that the ranked-game incident and the punishment are connected, but the link remains unverified. FUT did not mention the screenshots in its announcement, and Riot Games had not publicly stated that Vlad was being punished for those comments. The alleged messages therefore should not be presented as the confirmed reason for the suspension.

FUT Entered the Playoffs With Champions Shanghai at Stake

Vlad’s absence arrived on the opening day of the VCT EMEA Stage 2 playoffs, which run from 20 to 30 August. Eight teams remained in contention, with qualification for VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai tied to the final stretch of the regional season.

FUT entered the playoffs with 13 Championship Points, one behind Team Vitality on 14. Team Liquid held nine points and sat behind several other teams in the standings, increasing the importance of a deep playoff run for their own route to Shanghai.

FUT could still reach Champions through its playoff finish or Championship Points, with VLR noting that a strong run could secure qualification on points even if the Turkish side missed the top two. That made the Team Liquid series more than a single-match inconvenience: FUT began one of its final qualification pushes without its head coach behind the team.

The one-match nature of the punishment means Vlad’s suspension itself was due to end after the Team Liquid series, while FUT’s broader VCT EMEA playoff campaign continued toward the 30 August conclusion and the remaining places at VALORANT Champions 2026.
