Fortnite Override Season Adds Sonic, Kingdom Hearts’ Sora and Persona 5’s Joker Aug 20

Fortnite’s next major update, Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, launches on August 20, 2026, and Epic Games has confirmed it will be built entirely around crossovers with other video games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Kingdom Hearts and Persona 5. Chapter 7 Season 4 of Fortnite is called Override, and is set to start on August 20. The season’s tagline, “Break the Rules, Change the Game,” ties into a story where players must stop a rogue AI named Geno from seizing control of the island.

Sonic Brings Green Hill Zone and a Spin Dash Mythic Item

Sonic the Hedgehog is the headline licensed character of the season, and Sega’s mascot is getting more than just a skin. According to GosuGamers, Green Hill Zone is now part of the Fortnite map, complete with its loops, checkerboard cliffs and Rings scattered around the new point of interest. The outlet also reports a new Spin Dash Mythic item that lets players curl into a ball and speed across the map.

Sonic isn’t travelling alone. Siliconera’s rundown of the official teaser identifies a wider Sonic contingent in the trailer, including Shadow the Hedgehog… Dr. Robotnik, Rush, Sonic the Hedgehog alongside dozens of other guest characters spotted in the key art. Dot Esports adds that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override’s confirmed skin list brings Sonic, Tetris, Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5, and a lot more to the Item Shop and Battle Pass across the season.

The long-rumoured Kingdom Hearts collaboration is real, with Sora joining the Override roster wielding his signature weapon. Video Games Chronicle’s report on the reveal trailer notes key art released by the official Fortnite account also shows glimpses of Pac-Man and Sora from Kingdom Hearts. Siliconera further confirms the crossover’s start date, reporting that Joker Persona 5 and Sora from Kingdom Hearts will join the game as part of Chapter 7 Season 4: Override once that starts on August 20, 2026.

Because Kingdom Hearts is a joint Square Enix and Disney property, Sora’s Fortnite design reportedly strips away any Mickey Mouse-related visual references, mirroring how the character was handled in his prior guest appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Persona 5’s Joker and a Sprawling Legends Roster

Persona 5 protagonist Joker headlines a huge supporting cast of guest characters shown off in the Override trailer. Siliconera’s breakdown of the artwork lists the full lineup: the Pac-Man ghosts, Shadow the Hedgehog, Blanka from Street Fighter, Pac-Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the dragon, Mega Man, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Ryu from Street Fighter, Joker from Persona 5, Blade from Honkai: Star Rail, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Master Chief from Halo, Dr. Robotnik, Rush, Sonic the Hedgehog, and tetrominos from Tetris.

Not every name in that lineup is a launch-day certainty. Dot Esports cautions that while these aren’t part of the Battle Pass progression, they’re still confirmed for Season 4 and will rotate through the Item Shop throughout the season. Joker’s inclusion appears to fall into that category rather than the core season pass.

Battle Pass Leans on Original Designs, Not Just Licensed Skins

Despite the wall-to-wall crossover marketing, the actual Battle Pass structure differs from what leaks initially suggested. Dot Esports explains that the remaining six Battle Pass skins are original Fortnite creations, and each one represents different video game genres, with all eight Battle Pass skins (Sonic, Tetris, and the six originals) can be unlocked by progressing through the Battle Pass tiers. Geno, the antagonist driving the season’s story, is expected to anchor that original-character lineup alongside Sonic and a Tetris-themed skin.

GosuGamers notes that beyond the Sonic-focused additions, Tetris blocks appear throughout the trailer, while Pac-Man elements can also be spotted among the changes. Epic has kept full patch notes under wraps, with the outlet adding that Epic hasn’t shown exactly what every one of those additions involve yet, leaving some of Override’s map as surprises for the season itself.
