Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Gets Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls, a Series First

Nintendo has confirmed that Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will support Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, marking the first time the tactical role-playing series has offered the input method. The feature lets players move units around the battlefield and pull up battle information by sliding a Joy-Con 2 controller like a computer mouse, with the option to switch back to traditional buttons at any moment.

The confirmation came via Nintendo’s official product listings for the game, which state: “For the first time in the Fire Emblem series, you can play with mouse controls using Joy-Con 2 controllers. Intuitively move units across the battlefield, quickly access helpful information, and more, changing seamlessly between button and mouse controls whenever you like.” Nintendo Everything, which first flagged the wording after it appeared on regional storefronts, noted that the mouse controls are entirely optional, so players can still complete the full game without them.

How the Joy-Con 2 mouse mode works on Fortune’s Weave’s battlefield

Fortune’s Weave joins a growing roster of Switch 2 titles leaning on the console’s built-in mouse function, which relies on an optical sensor on the flat edge of each Joy-Con 2. According to TechRadar’s breakdown of the hardware, each Joy-Con controller is fitted with an optical sensor on its flatter edge, with the shoulder buttons doubling as mouse buttons. The same outlet reported that Nintendo has already demonstrated the mode in games like the wheelchair-basketball title Drag x Drive and Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Turn Based Lovers, which attended the recent Nintendo Direct focused on the game, reported that the mouse function extends beyond simple cursor movement. The outlet wrote that players can also rewind previous actions through Fortuna’s Blessing and use the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls to manage units and menus, suggesting the feature is woven into more than just unit placement on the grid.

A long-requested feature for the strategy series

Point-and-click support has been a frequent request from the Fire Emblem community, whose menu-heavy interfaces have traditionally been navigated entirely with a directional pad and face buttons. Fan discussion on Serenes Forest forums had floated the idea after Switch 2’s mouse mode was first demonstrated, with one poster arguing that “that’s really the one thing Fire Emblem’s UI has been missing for decades – point and click functionality.”

Nintendo Life, which first surfaced the confirmed wording on its news desk, pointed out that the studio has been steadily expanding mouse support across its Switch 2 library, noting that Nintendo also recently included mouse control support in Star Fox. Combined with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s aim-assist use of the same tech, the pattern points to Nintendo positioning Joy-Con 2 mouse mode as a recurring, if optional, control scheme across genres rather than a one-off gimmick.

Setting, heroes and the Heroic Games premise

Fortune’s Weave is set in the Dagdan Empire, where a resurrected demon god named Balor threatens the realm in the year 1454. Nintendo’s own listing describes the plot: the year is 1454, and the Dagdan Empire lies on the brink of ruin following the return of Balor, a resurrected demon god, and Fortuna, a goddess blessed with the ability to travel through time, offers a descended soul the chance to help heroes from the past change their fate and lead them to the future for the final battle.

Much of the story unwinds five years earlier during the Heroic Games, a tournament in the capital city of Dagsion. Nintendo’s official press release explained that worthy fighters from all over the land arrive to compete in the Heroic Games, with the winner granted one wish, and among the combatants are four Heroes tied to the fate of the world. Players follow those four protagonists: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda: through separate storylines that can be tackled in parallel, according to Noisy Pixel’s coverage of the same Direct.

Release date, pricing and the Dagdan Collection

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. Nintendo’s press release confirms that the game launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 17, with pre-orders already available on the Nintendo eShop. Wccftech’s roundup of the game’s reveals lists the digital edition at $69.99 in the US eShop, with physical copies carrying a higher MSRP of $79.99, while a collector’s version priced at $119.99 is also on offer.

For Australian buyers, Videogames Chronicle reported that the standard physical edition has been confirmed as AUD $119.95 in Australia, putting it in line with recent premium-tier first-party Nintendo releases. That special edition, called the Dagdan Collection, is also confirmed for release the same day and, per Nintendo’s press materials, will bundle a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an artbook.

With Switch 2’s install base still growing across New Zealand and Australia, mouse support gives local strategy fans another reason to try the console’s hybrid control scheme on a genre built around grid-based precision. Whether the feature proves more than a novelty for veteran tacticians will likely become clearer once reviewers get hands-on time closer to the September 17 launch.
