Fallout 76: The Slasher Update Is Live With a Free Next-Gen Upgrade

Fallout 76 just dropped its 70th free update, and it leans hard into horror. The Slasher is live now, a spooky season content drop built around the Pint-Sized Slasher legend, and it arrives alongside something players have wanted for a while: a proper next-gen upgrade.
If you have not touched Appalachia in a while, this is a good excuse to load back in.
What The Slasher adds
The update turns Appalachia into a horror mystery. Players collect evidence tied to an imposter Slasher’s killings and work toward uncovering the truth behind the legend, with the trail running through scavenger hunts, unmarked graves, Daily Ops, Infestations and Mischief Night celebrations. It is the kind of themed, week-over-week content loop that gives lapsed players a reason to check in each week rather than a one-and-done event.
There are new enemies to deal with too, including the Pint-Sized Phantoms and the fanatical followers of the Pint-Sized Slasher. Clearing them out earns themed rewards, among them new power armour and skins, so there is loot on the other side of the scares.

The next-gen upgrade is the bigger news
Bundled with The Slasher, Fallout 76 is now optimised for Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation 5. Across all platforms the game now runs at 1440p and 60fps, which is a real jump for a title that has been chugging along on last-gen targets for years. Anyone still on an Xbox One or PS4 copy can upgrade to the next-gen version for free.
That 60fps bump matters more than any single seasonal event. Fallout 76 has quietly become one of Bethesda’s steadiest live games, and giving it a smoother baseline sets up The Slasher and every future update to feel a lot better to play.
How to jump in
The Slasher and the next-gen update are available now on all platforms. It is a free update, so if you own Fallout 76 there is nothing to buy, just download and drop back into Appalachia for the spooky season.
