Diablo IV: Season of Hell’s Legacy Brings Back the Prime Evils and Hits Switch 2

Diablo turns 30, and Blizzard is marking it inside Diablo IV as well as with the reveal of Diablo V. The live game’s anniversary season, Season of Hell’s Legacy, goes live on September 15 and leans hard on nostalgia.

The Prime Evils return

Season of Hell’s Legacy brings back the Prime Evils, including the Lord of Terror himself, alongside Deckard Cain, anniversary rewards, and gear inspired by every era of Diablo. For a series celebrating 30 years, it is a deliberate victory lap through its own history. The joke boss Moophisto, of secret-cow-level fame, also makes his return for good measure.

Diablo IV comes to Switch 2, and the Amazon is next

The same day the season starts, September 15, Diablo IV launches on Nintendo Switch 2, giving the game a proper handheld home. Looking further out, Diablo IV’s first class pack arrives in the first half of 2027 with the javelin-wielding Amazon, one of the most requested returning archetypes in the franchise.

The nostalgia play

Everything about Season of Hell’s Legacy is aimed at long-time fans, from the return of the original Prime Evils to Deckard Cain and era-spanning gear. That is a smart move for a 30th anniversary, and it doubles as a bridge to Diablo V, keeping the community engaged in Sanctuary while the next game is years away. The Switch 2 launch matters too: Diablo IV has steadily expanded its platform reach, and a strong handheld version is exactly the kind of thing that pulls lapsed players back in. And for anyone who mained the javelin-throwing Amazon back in Diablo II, her arrival in 2027 is the reveal that will get the loudest cheer.
